It’s been 15 years since legendary “What’s Happening” actor, Fred “Rerun”  Berry, sadly passed away in 2003, yet in 2018, his name is still making headlines, by way of his widow, Essie Berry. Rerun’s widow is embroiled in a heated legal battle with comedian/host, Steve Harvey, and now Steve has responded to her claims against him.

Rerun’s Widow’s $5Million Claims Against Steve Harvey

As we previously reported, in March 2018, Essie Berry filed a $5 million lawsuit against Steve Harvey, accusing him “stalking,” harassment, and ‘murder of her emotional state of mind.’

In the lawsuit, Essie says in 2013 she was approached to do a reality TV show titled, “Widow, Wives, and Ex Celebrity Wives,” and she asked Steve Harvey’s ex-wife, Mary Vaughn, to join the show. Essie claims when Steve caught wind of her offer to his ex-wife, he proceeded to enforce the sealed gag order that legally prohibits Mary Vaughn from discussing Harvey in public. Mrs. Rerun also claims that she had no clue there was a sealed gag order in place at that time, but claims Steve then “defamed” her, by allegedly accusing her of being an “extortionist” and “co-conspirator.”

Via RadarOnline: “Steve Harvey continued to make attempts to shatter and murder Ms. Berry’s emotional state of mind through the Texas court’s with a lie for years,” Berry wrote. “Mr. Harvey made attempts to silence Ms. Berry through malicious prosecution in order to protect his super stardom image. … With feelings of hopelessness and depression, Ms. Berry was forced to be silent for four years in order to protect what little image she had left, and to protect Mary — while Mr. Harvey paraded around making false allegations against both Ms. Berry and Mary,” she continued. […] She also is requesting $5 million and an apology.

In April 2018, it went largely unnoticed by many, that Steve clapped back at Mrs. Rerun and her $5 million lawsuit, in court docs. And it doesn’t look like he has any plans on paying Essie one red cent of what she’s asking for:

In the notice of demurrer, Harvey’s team alleges Berry is just an “agent” of Harvey’s ex, Mary Vaughn, and was enlisted to tarnish his reputation. “Thirteen years ago a Texas court entered a divorce decree between Mary Vaughn and Broderick (Steve) Harvey. Unwilling to move on with her life, Ms. Vaughn has engaged in prolonged [pattern] of harassment and vexatious litigation against Mr. Harvey that has resulted in four separate injunction orders and a judicial finding of contempt against her for violating court orders on at least twenty separate occasions. […] “Undeterred, and unrepentant, Ms. Vaughn has enlisted her acknowledged agent, Plaintiff Essie Berry, to continue her quixotic campaign to tarnish Mr. Harvey’s reputation and re-litigate the divorce case. … [Essie Berry’s] “rambling and incoherent pleading is woefully deficient… Enough is enough,” Harvey’s legal team argues.

Harvey’s official court hearing, to dispute Essie Berry’s claims, will go down on June 7, 2018.

Pretty sure that back in the day, when Steve was watching “What’s Happening,” he probably never imagined in a million years that he’d be battling “Rerun’s” wife. Anywho…we’ll keep y’all posted on this one.

Over the years, Steve Harvey’s career has evolved. These days, life is a bit easier, due to his success in film and television, but life wasn’t always like this. Back in the day, standup comedy was Steve’s meal ticket and it ultimately became his claim to fame. In fact, many fans probably agree they prefer “standup Steve” over the “Trump-supporting Steve” we’ve all grown accustomed to over the past year. However, the famed comedian has a totally different take on the situation. Apparently, he believes going back to his roots might be the biggest mistake he could ever make. During a May 2018 interview, he even explained why he believes the one thing that made his career would destroy it today.

Keepin’ His Mouth Shut”

In the interview, Steve Harvey was asked the one thing that most famed comedians are asked when they branch out to other areas of entertainment: Would he ever consider taking the stage again?

Most famous comedians’ careers started with standup long before they branched out to film. Chris Rock, Martin Lawrence, Kevin Hart, and Mo’Nique have explored the idea of returning to standup for specials but Steve has made it clear he won’t be doin’ it anytime soon. Although he claims to have a great special he could do, he’s not even going to explore the idea of putting it together. Why? Well, it looks like Steve is finally taking everyone’s advice and keeping his mouth shut. When Steve sat down with EurWeb, he offered an interesting explanation for his decision. Although he still has a lot he could discuss, he believes he’s waited too long to do so:

“I’m gonna be honest with you, man. I’ve been really seriously thinking about it. I got a special in me that’s so funny. It’s just about my life, the stuff that I’ve been quiet about on social media,” he explained. ‘I’ve been quiet about the beating I took about my divorce, which was in 2005 and has been ongoing in social media because somebody just won’t let it go. I’ve been quiet about the visit to [Donald] Trump. I kept my mouth shut about the Miss Universe thing. I kept my mouth shut about the memo that got out in Chicago. I just kept it all. Well, I may have kept it long enough.”

Goodbye To Stand-Up?:

Since Steve Harvey has been under the microscope lately for a number of different reasons, he doesn’t want fans to expect any type of comedy special from him anytime soon. “Well, it’s just been a thought of mine. What’s crazy, man, I haven’t decided yet because it’s so politically correct out here now. It’s so PC. Chapelle’s special broke a lot of the rules, and so did Rock but they’re not television stars. And, I’m connected to a radio show and TV that’s very much sponsor driven. If I had said anything that those two guys said, and somebody wrote in as a sponsor talking about, I can’t believe he said that then my whole television empire crumbles,” Steve explained.

Dragged To Hell:

With all of the criticism he’s faced over the past several months, Steve admits that he’s actually “scared” to take the stage right now.

“So, I’m really scared at this point; I’m really leery about because it’s just so politically correct out there. And it’s unfair for comedy to be that way. It’s just unfair. What joke can you tell that’s going to make everyone happy? The joke has to be about somebody. And I don’t know how to write a joke about nobody. I just don’t. So, I’m just thinking about it. I don’t know how to write a joke without saying something controversial. You can’t write comedy without being controversial.”

By now, most fans have probably heard a thing or two about Steve Harvey’s media fiascos lately. “The Kings of Comedy” star’s downfall began with the infamous Miss Universe pageant when he crowned the wrong woman. The epic blunder led to tons of comical memes but Steve’s support of Trump only made things worse. Steve started gettin’ the side-eye from fans when he publicly supported Donald Trump because people started wonderin’ about what Steve really stands for. Although he later admitted he didn’t agree with everything Trump stood for, the damage had already been down.

Easter weekend kicked of with a bang for Mr. and Mrs.Steve Harvey…and not in a good way. Steve’s wife, Marjorie, pissed off many of their fans, over the way she (seemingly unintentionally) offended many mentally challenged people. Steve then had to come to her defense.

What Had Happened Was…

So, what had happened was that on Saturday, Steve and Marjorie were having a chill time at their home and Marjorie decided to post one of their kitchen moments on Instagram. It was a video of them playfully disputing who cuts beets better- Marjorie or Steve. During their video, Marjorie said:

“I’m sitting here arguing with my husband, ’cause clearly, he thinks I’m retarded [and] I don’t know how to cut a beet.”

It was Marjorie’s usage of the word, “retarded,”that had many people jumpin’ all over her for offending those with disabilities. Marjorie’s playful description didn’t seem to be an intentional mocking of people who are mentally challenged. However, for many who are/or have loved ones who are mentally challenged, using the term, “retarded,” is oftentimes no different than a non-Black person playfully using the term “nigger.” That’s why fans immediately flooded Marjorie’s IG post with comments to check her. But Steve Harvey was quick to jump in and defend his wife…

Steve Harvey’s clap-back: “What you trippin bout cause my wife said the word retarded ….it’s a word ain’t it? and she ain’t talking bout nobody but herself tome, now man Sh_t what she was doing was just that and she ain’t saying it bout nobodies baby…. I don’t ever comment but dam is you just looking for something to be pissed off about cause we ain’t and I wrote it retarded. NAH!!”

Fans Clap-Back At Steve AND His Wife

Y’all already know, Steve Harvey is just now getting back on the right track with many of his fans, after they told him to kick rocks, following his Donald Trump support fiasco. You don’t have to calling a being who had disabilities retarded in order for it to be offensive just like a white person doesn’t have to call a black person a nigger in order for it to be offensive. Being that I have a son with special needs I hate that word and yes I use to say it until I had a child and understood the term. I literally had to have this convo with my sis-in-law who always uses the word slow. She’s always like man you slow lol. But it’s not funny when you are using someone’s disability as a mockery even if the person your not talking to isn’t “slow”.

Steve Harvey has been hit with quite a few lawsuits over the past year and it looks like he’s facing yet another. The “Family Feud” host has been sued by the widow of “What’s Happenin'” star, Fred “Re-Run- Berry, Essie Berry. It has been reported that the drama between Steve and Essie has been going on for quite some time and it centers around his ex-wife, Mary Vaughn. Although Steve and Mary divorced years ago, they’ve still had lots of ongoing drama. Since they’re ugly split and messy divorce, Mary has accused Stevie and his current wife, Marjorie, of taking everything from her, including her son, Winston. Now, Essie is suing Steve because she claims he’s also been trying to silence her about the situation.

The Court Filing:

According to Radar Online, the lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on March 8 in paints a pretty disturbing image of Steve. Mrs.  Berry is reportedly accusing Harvey of stalking, harassment, and even “murder” of a woman’s “emotional state of mind,” according to the new lawsuit. Because of his alleged actions, she’s reportedly attempting to hit Harvey where it hurts – his pockets. Esssie Berry, a civil rights activist, is said to be suing Harvey for $5 million. She claims all the drama started back in 2013, when she was offered a chance to appear on the reality series, “Widow, Wives and Ex Celebrity Wives.” She’d also asked Steve’s ex, Mary Vaughn, if she wanted to appear on the show. Apparently, this appeared to be a threat for Steve Harvey, because it would give Vaughn the opportunity she’d been waiting for- a mainstream opportunity to share the other side of the story. When Berry asked Vaughn about the reality series, she reportedly insisted she had no clue they had a sealed gag order in the state of Texas.

Berry claims Harvey quickly made efforts to halt their actions and he allegedly turned his frustrations toward her, which is why she’s accusing him of stalking and harassment. In the lawsuit, she detailed Steve’s alleged behavior. She claims he even defamed her character allegedly describing her as a “extortionist” and “co-conspirator.”

“Steve Harvey continued to make attempts to shatter and murder Ms. Berry’s emotional state of mind through the Texas court’s with a lie for years,” Berry wrote. “Mr. Harvey made attempts to silence Ms. Berry through malicious prosecution in order to protect his superstardom image.”

Although Harvey was reportedly been granted a gag order against his ex, Vaughn, in the state of Texas, he also didn’t want her going public with anything either. Berry claims the comedian attempted to silence them where the reality show was concerned, because he feared it “would reveal the truth about Mr. Harvey and Mary’s marriage/breakup, their family life, the ups and downs of being a celebrity ex-wife, and Mr. Harvey’s indiscretions.”

Similar Claims:

The latest lawsuit against Steve Harvey follows similar claims from his ex-wife. For those who missed all that drama, Mary Vaughn also claimed Harvey used malicious tactics to ruin her life, her finances, and her relationship with their son. At the time, she described the tactics as complete “torture.”

Unfortunately for Vaughn, back in January, a judge ruled in favor of Harvey and the lawsuit was dismissed. In December, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Gregory Keosian dismissed the case and stated that the case appeared to be a matter that should have been filed in Texas where the couple actually filed for divorce.

“Her claims for intentional infliction of emotional distress, false imprisonment, and invasion of privacy, although vaguely stated, appear to arise from Harvey’s alleged infidelities during marriage and a later incident involving her arrest and gag order,” Keosian wrote in the Dec. 15 order. “The infidelity allegations would properly have been a matter for their martial dissolution proceeding, and the injustice of the gag order mat be taken up with the Texas court charged with implementing it. It is likewise apparent that Vaughn’s fraud claims arises from Harvey allegedly ‘dishonestly calculating for his advantage land, real estate, stocks,’ and other properties in their mutual division of property. Vaughn’s defamation and conversion claims also appear to arise from the same nucleus of facts.”

Like Mary Vaughn, “Rerun’s” widow may be facing an uphill battle by going to war with Steve Harvey.

There are a lot of dads out there who would do just about anything to protect their daughters. Steve Harvey is no different. The 61-year-old’s youngest daughter Lori got engaged last summer, but not before Steve had him thoroughly checked out.

Steve Admitted What He Did

At the time she said yes to 23-year-old Memphis Depay’s (pictured below) proposal, Lori was only 20 herself. And seeing as her dad is a successful, multi-million dollar entertainer, who could blame Steve for wanting to make sure that the young man is legit?

Steve admitted that he had Memphis followed which made Lori furious. But Steve is her dad, not her friend, so he offered zero apologies. The young man is a pro soccer player and Steve wanted to make sure that every game he played was on a field and not with Lori’s heart.

“She knows now, but when she found out she was upset,” PEOPLE magazine reported. “What you trippin’ for? I’m trying to help you. You think he cute, I don’t. You find him attractive. The boy is just a boy to me.”

Steve went on to explain that he has standards for the kind of men that his daughters can date. They have to treat them with respect or keep it moving.

“If you’re not going to treat her the way I’ve treated her, and the way I’ve treated her mama, then you can’t have her,” Steve said. “And then I’m going to fix it.”

The Think Like A Man author has been to the altar a few times and knows a thing or two about how players operate. He also knows what can happen to a woman when her heart gets broken. But apparently Memphis passed Steve’s tests with flying colors. He tweeted that Lori had his blessing calling him “a good one.”

Lori in turn tweeted that she is in love, not pregnant, and believes that she has found “the one.” The now-21-year-old responded to concerns about the couple’s ages much the same way Steph Curry did when he and Ayesha jumped the broom.

“Yes, we are young, but when it’s right, why wait?” Lori said.

Steve Harvey’s ex-wife, Mary Vaughn, has been putting him on blast heavily within the past year or so. In legal docs she filed in May 2017, she claimed that Harvey kept their then young son away from her. She also accused Steve of ‘torturing her and murdering her soul,’ plus much more.

As a result of the emotional duress Ms. Vaughn says she experienced from Harvey during their years-long marriage and after their divorce, she admittedly began to self-medicate and attempted suicide.

Apparently, there was also some sort of gag order Steve reportedly had Mary sign at the time of their divorce, but Mary stated, in the past, that she refuses to remain quiet about how Harvey has allegedly destroyed her life and turned their son against her.

Why Harvey’s Ex Lost The $60M Lawsuit

That brings us to the current situation surrounding the pending $60 lawsuit Mary had against Steve. According to Radar Online, Mary’s just lost that battle, but not necessarily for reasons you may think. It had a lot to do with the state in which she chose to fight her battle against her ex-hubby, Steve. See details below..

It’s also being reported that Mary Vaughn has not yet filed an opposition to the judge’s ruling over the $60M lawsuit:

Vaughn has not filed an opposition, but she won’t be able to amend her complaint either. In his three-page Dec. 15 ruling, Judge Gregory Keosian denied Vaughn an opportunity to amend her complaint, effectively shutting down the lawsuit.

Tyler Perry has much to be thankful for this year. Making the rounds to promote his new book Higher Is Waiting and his latest project Star, Perry stopped by Steve Harvey’s talk show and the subject of Thanksgiving dinner came up. He recently gave up meat, inspired by his partner Gelila’s vegan lifestyle, and has been trying to figure out how to fill the void.

“Well, it’s going to be pretty interesting. Gelila’s vegan so we have to figure out what to eat that’s vegan,” Perry told Harvey. “So it’s going to be healthy, that’s all I know. But I grew up in New Orleans so we had everything. Hamhocks, chicken, turkey, all kinds of stuff. But it’s changed a bit.”

Perry didn’t seem to be too enthusiastic about the possibilities of a meatless holiday, so Harvey made a recommendation: Tofurkey. The meat substitute made of tofu sounded less than appealing to Perry, and Harvey confirmed that it is as bad as it sounds.

“It’s the most trifling thing you’ve ever eaten,” Harvey told Perry.

Perry thought that even the name of the mystery meat sounded funny. He decided to maybe try something whose name rolls off the tongue a bit easier.

“That sound like I’m cussing when I say Tofurkey,” Perry said. “Nah, man. But I’ll eat some tochicken.”

Apparently the idea of Tofurkey started to grow on him. When Perry dropped by Rachel Ray’s show on Monday, he revisited the idea. Ray asked him about holiday traditions that he and Gelila are teaching their 3-year-old son Aman and he shared that the family was skipping meat this Thanksgiving. But if the Tofurkey doesn’t hit the spot, they will be returning to Perry’s Louisiana roots and partaking in a whole lot of meat.

“We’re in a weird place ’cause mom is vegan and I just stopped eating meat,” he said. “But there is something called Tofurkey, tofu turkey, that we’re going to try and see if that works out. If not, we’ll go down to New Orleans and do what we always do — eat everything we can get our hands on.”

Kandi Burruss, Tameka “Tiny” Harris, LaTocha Scott, and Tamika Scott, may sometimes have a difficult time getting along, but a few days ago, whatever disagreements they may be having, soon became overshadowed by some incredible news. We all know by now that the four sistas who make up the R&B group, Xscape, are not only some SANGIN’ somebodies, they’re also pretty much like the R&B saviors of female groups right now.

Sure, they may not have bonded for 18 years, due to their past beefs. However, ever since they announced, in February 2017, that they were finally reuniting after nearly two decades apart, they hit the ground with their feet running. In fact, they’re hard work is so appreciated by the masses, that Steve Harvey surprised the hell outta them with a surprise on behalf of their city. On November 3rd, the ladies appeared on The Steve Harvey daytime talk show to promote their Bravo TV reality show and tour, but Steve hit ’em with some news that caught them totally off guard.

“You all don’t know this but this Monday, Nov. 6th, the city of Atlanta is proclaiming Xscape’s official holiday,” Harvey told Xscape. It’s always a beautiful thing to see folks get their ‘flowers’ while their still here, vibrant, and able to appreciate them. Although Xscape are still young women, the decades-long impact they’ve made on the R&B game, their fans, and their city, Atlanta, GA, is evident. Giving an Old School fist bump and hand clap to these four SANGERS on the helluva job they’ve done and are continuing to do thus far!

It’s been almost a year since Steve Harvey was dragged for supporting Donald Trump and people still aren’t letting him live it down. Since the Trump administration is still wreaking havoc on the United States, Steve probably won’t catch a break anytime soon because people believe he, and other African Americans who supported Trump, have contributed to this political circus. But despite what Steve may or may not have done to help Trump secure the presidency, he’s tired of being criticized for the situation. So when a critic recently came at Steve for his political agenda, he went completely off.

Not Here For It:

It looks like some people have no plans of letting Steve off the hook for meeting with Trump, but he’s not here for it anymore. Although he wasn’t exactly okay with letting fans take verbal jabs at him when the situation first happened, he’s really not taking it anymore. In fact, he recently fired back at a fan who criticized him on social media. One of Steve’s female fans challenged his beliefs and asked him “why would you support Trump?” The woman acknowledged that everyone is entitled to their opinion but she wonders how he could possibly support Trump knowing the man he is. A “woke” Steve fired back with a response.

Despite the backlash, Steve Harvey has always defended his actions. Back in January, he explained why he decided to meet with Trump even after his wife suggested that he skip the meeting. “Our president (Obama) asked that all of us sit down and talk to one another in order to move our country forward. The transition teams on both sides asked me to meet and I’m glad I did. He claimed Trump, “immediately got (HUD secretary nominee) Dr. Ben Carson on the phone to begin dialog in looking for programs and housing to help our inner cities.”

After the meeting, he said, “I walked away feeling like I had just talked with a man who genuinely wants to make a difference in this area. I feel that something really great could come out of this.”

Still Gettin’ Dragged:

The latest news follows Steve’s interview last month where he admitted he’s still surprised he was dragged so badly on social media. He explained, “the backlash.” He, once again admitted he should have listened to his wife. “It was so vicious that it really threw me. I was being called names that I’ve never been called: Uncle Tom. A coon. A sellout. Because I went to see this man?! Which only happened because my business partner got a call from the Obama transition team, who said that the Trump transition team would like to set up a meeting. The Obama team said they thought it would be a good idea because the president is encouraging dialogue. And I have a relationship with Obama. We’re friends. So I say, “OK, cool.” Now, here’s the crazy thing: I’m supposed to be on a boat for my 60th birthday, so my wife says, “Steve, just take off [and skip the meeting]. You’ll meet with him some other time.” God, I should’ve listened.”

Maybe next time still will listen to Marjorie because she was dead-on this time.
