Deadline reported on Monday that McClain has signed on for the two-part television movie written by Abdul Williams and executive produced by Jesse Collins. Williams and Collins, who both served in the same capacities on the New Edition biopic, are hoping that lightning will strike twice as that three-part series set BET all-time records in viewership.

The project will tell Brown’s story starting from his controversial split with New Edition, through his time as a street hustler in Roxbury, to his rise as a solo artist. “The Bobby Brown Story” will cover some 30 years of the wildly successful singer’s life.

Relationships With The Many Women In His Life

Brown’s relationships with women will be explored in the movie as well. The storyline will include his short-lived affair with Janet Jackson and his passionate-yet-tumultuous relationship with ex-wife Whitney Houston. Brown wrestled with Houston’s death in 2012 only to be blindsided by the loss of their only child Bobbi Kristina some three years later in 2015.

The singer’s story will be told right up until the present day as Brown has fought through his battles with addictions to drugs and alcohol, reunited with the members of New Edition after years of estrangement, remarried in 2012, and returned to the stage as a performer. Deadline said that this will be a hopeful story about Brown’s quest for redemption.

What About The Cast?

So, look for the cast to include characters who played pivotal roles in Brown’s life. The search is on for talented actors to portray Whitney Houston, Bobbi Kristina, Teddy Riley, Babyface, Janet Jackson, L.A. Reid, and many others. With a lineup like this, “The Bobby Brown Story” will certainly not disappoint. we’ll be watching. Will you?

Yvette Nicole Brown recently took fans by storm when she starred in the popular biopic, The New Edition Story, which aired in January. For those who missed it, Yvette- best known for her roles inCommunity, The Office, and The New Odd Couple- portrayed Michael Bivins’ mother, Shirley Bivins and ironically, Mike and Yvette have a history together that most never knew about…until now.

In The New Edition Story, Yvette starred alongside the other ‘N.E. mothers’: La La Anthony (Flo DeVoe), Monica Calhoun (Patricia Tresvant), Lisa Nicole Carson (Mae Bell), and Sandi McCree (Carole Brown).

The women worked together to bring the motherhood dynamic to life when the cameras were rolling, but most don’t know Yvette actually has a deep past with Michael Bivins. Their work together actually started long before the biopic.

Now here’s the kicker about Mike Bivins and Yvette: Yvette Nicole Brown was actually signed to Michael’s label, Biv 10 Records back in the day! But that’s not all, during an interview with musician, Harry Connick Jr., Yvette revealed that she was not only a singer on Biv’s label, but that Mike was her manager, then after she graduated from college, she went back to work for Bivins as his assistant. Lo and behold, ten years after Yvette was no longer Bivins’ assistant, she morphed into his momma, Shirley, for The New Edition Story. Ain’t that something?!!

Yvette Credits New Edition’s Bodyguard For The Reason She’s Successful Today

In a video Yvette Nicole Brown posted online with New Edition’s former long-time bodyguard-turned-TV producer, Jeff Dyson (who was also portrayed in the N.E. movie), she thanked him for being the reason she’s a successful actress today (along with Mike Bivins of course). Why? Because Jeff was the one she randomly walked up to at a New Edition event back in the day, and begged him to let her backstage she could sing for N.E. Jeff told her ‘no,’ HOWEVER…

He then did something he said he’d never done before- gave Yvette the location of the hotel N.E. was staying at, so she could later run into them there and he made her promise not to tell N.E. he gave her the address. Jeff’s reason for helping Yvette was because he said he could tell she had an intense drive to pursue her dream and wasn’t just an average teeny bopper groupie trying to hook up with N.E.

Jeff’s plan worked-  Yvette ‘ran into’ N.E. at the hotel, she got to sing for Mike Bivins right there on the spot, and the rest is history!

Yvette’s history with Michael Bivins probably made her a shoe-in for the role of his mother despite the brutal casting process. Another reason why the actors nailed all the scenes is because the group approved everything. Yvette shared details about the film’s production during an interview with EBONY. “New Edition were executive producers on this project, which means they were on set almost every single day, one, or all six.”

Anyone who has seen the movie will probably agree the ladies and guys who portrayed members of the great did an awesome job!

Remember actress, Lisa Nicole Carson? She’s had a successful acting career. She’s best known for her as “Josie,” who was “Nina’s” (Nia Long) best friend in the 90’s classic, Love Jones, and also for her roles on hit TV shows, including ER, Ally McBeal , as well as in films like Eve’s Bayou, Jason’s Lyric and more. On her most recent roles was in BET’s N.E. biopic, The New Edition Story, but Lisa’s most challenging role to date has probably been her real life role of becoming an overcomer and a survivor.

After years of the public hearing rumors about Lisa being very temperamental and difficult to work with at times, it wasn’t until 2015, that she finally decided to speak out about a mental condition she eventually learned was the root to her behavioral outbursts in Hollywood.

Lisa (48) learned that she is bipolar and that’s why her career has suffered over the past decade. She was fired from the hit show, Ally McBeal, as a result of her extreme mood swings, which devastated her. She also was admitted to a psychiatric ward in 2000 after having a multiple number of bipolar breakdowns on and off set.

A bipolar diagnosis was the last thing she was expecting to hear from her doc, so it kind of slapped her across the head like a sack of bricks when she found out. However, Lisa is very grateful that she was able to get answers about behaviors that she simply could not understand at that time.

Here’s what Lisa Nicole Carson revealed to People Magazine:

Via People Magazine: Carson speaks in depth for the first time about the bipolar diagnosis that nearly shattered her life and career. “From the time I stepped away from show business [in 2001] until now, I’ve been on a long, very complicated and challenging journey,” says Carson. “I didn’t know if I was going to make it out.”

“I don’t really have an option to be silent about my illness, although I wanted to be for many years,” Carson reveals. “But since I had a public breakdown, it’s something I felt I had to address.” She tells PEOPLE, “When you lose your mind it’s as traumatic as it sounds. It’s not anything you can imagine happening to you.” […] Carson had her first psychotic breakdown in 1997. For the next seven years, she says, there were “too many breakdowns to count.”

Carson on how she felt like after first being diagnosed:

“It didn’t make any sense to me, at all. I had never heard of it. I was in denial and would not take my medicine.” In the years that followed, she experienced more mania than depression. “Sometimes it can be beautiful,” she says. “And sometimes it can be horrifying.”

Lisa revealed that she has been stable for over a decade now, due to years of consulting with doctors and trying experimental medications to control her mood:

“Just being at a place where I am healthy, excited about life and auditioning is a joy. I feel very blessed,” [said Lisa].

Hopes her story can help others:

“It’s a risk for me to be open,” she admits. “I never wanted to breathe a world about what happened to me. But I’ve had a change of heart. It’s rare for someone who has something as severe as I’ve had to come out the other side, but I’d like to let people know that you can. You can get to the other side.”

She is now living quietly in Hollywood, where she is now successfully relaunching her acting career. The New Edition Story was hopefully just the tip of the iceberg for Carson.

We salute Ms. Carson for being so honest about her condition that silently affects millions of people. Bipolar disorder is not something to be ashamed of and if more people, like Lisa, continue to bring awareness to it, more people afflicted by the condition will learn to seek the proper help and medical attention that they deserve. So we’re giving an Old School high-five and fist bump to our girl, Lisa Nicole Carson!
