Duane also co-starred in an independent television series, titled “Beauty and the Baller,” which aired on BET; as well as in the film, “The Breaking Point,” which was directed by his former “The Wood” co-star, Sean Nelson…talk about coming full circle. It was good to see those two reconnect for that project.

Additionally, “The Wood” veteran linked up with reality star/singer, Ray J. Norwood, for an independent film titled, “The Pump”.

In addition to his various acting gigs, in recent years Duane became a stand-up comedian. Truth be told, he’s actually a naturally funny brotha, so the comedy realm seemed like a natural progression for him.

And of course we cannot talk about what Duane Finley is up to these days, without mentioning his most fulfilling accomplishment yet…his role as a father. The last we heard, Duane and his wife have been married for many years, but it’s unclear if they are still together…he’s removed all signs of his family-life from his social media pages, which is a very different move for him. Typically, he was one to share photos –with his fans on social media– of himself spending family-time with the wife and kids. Hopefully everything is still all good with them and that he’s simply decided to keep his family-life private. 🤷🏾‍♂️

The best part of it all, is that the the brotha looks like he is enjoying life, and that’s what it’s all about.

Remember the character, “Stacey,” the ‘Bloods gangster’ from The Wood? In the movie, he was the protective, older brother of “young Alicia” (played by Malinda Williams) and he beat the mess out of “young Mike” for grabbing his baby sister’s behind. That movie brought back great memories of being in high school, but unfortunately what doesn’t bring back great memories for actor De’Aundre Bond, is the 10 years he had to serve in prison AFTER The Wood was released.

De’Aundre’s background is one of turmoil and determination. He grew up in the hood of South Central, L.A. and was determined not to follow in his parents’ footsteps of becoming addicted to alcohol and drugs. So he pursued his dream of acting, made a way out of no way, starred in a few popular movies, and just before he was about to take advantage of the biggest move of his career, which was starring opposite Denzel Washington in the film, Antwone Fisher, that’s when a tragic altercation with his aunt’s boyfriend happened and everything else nosedived head first right into the ground. Here’s what De’Aundre revealed to Black Enterprise about how he ended up serving time for murdering his aunt’s boyfriend: What are the details of the crime that sent you to prison?

“I went over to my auntie’s house to give her some money and her boyfriend was over there. I guess he had something that he was going through that I wasn’t unaware of, because for no provoked reason he came at me in an aggressive way. When I pulled up and got out my car, I left it running to go in for a moment, and I guess he was mad I had the music up. I don’t know, but something ticked him off and he put his hands on me and knocked me down. I got up and he knocked me down again. I went in the house grabbed a knife [and] he came at me again. I stabbed him one time and he died. I stayed there and tried to help him. I waited for the ambulance; they came and took him away. Then the police came. That’s what happened.”

What were your thoughts when you realized the results of your actions and likely headed to prison?

“It was crazy because when I went to prison I had just booked a movie with Denzel Washington. Denzel himself gave me the part, it was Antwone Fisher and I was excited to be living my dream. I was about to go to the next level and then all of a sudden I had to go down. At the time I didn’t understand why me and then after going through it, after enduring it and after the years you learn why. It’s something you can only understand after you’ve endured it. In a crazy way I needed that. I needed to be shut down. I needed to learn myself, I needed a place where I had to really open my eyes and wake up. That’s what incarceration afforded me the opportunity to do—wake up and check myself. We’re not perfect, however, I’m striving to be the best that I can be.”

On how his prison record has impacted his career…

“If I could ever change what happen I would absolutely do that in a minute, in a second, but I know that that’s not a possibility, so I don’t hold it against myself. God hasn’t held it against me either because I feel it in my heart; my heart is free. So if the conviction impacted my career in a negative way I haven’t seen it.”

As soon as De’Aundre’s feet hit the pavement again after his prison release. He immediately started filming again in various movies, such as the 2015 film, Dope. He’s most recently starred in John Singleton’s hit series, Snowfall, as the character, “Skully.”

De’Aundre’s story is just another reminder that all it takes sometimes, is just one bad decision to ruin one’s entire life. It’s heartbreaking that someone lost their life in the is situation. It’s also good that De’Aundre has been working to piece his back together and change for the better.

He Still Looks The Same:

Do y’all see this? This dude has barely aged! It’s good to see Sean taking great care of himself these days. He’s now a 40 year old father of twin daughters (see them below).

Sean is also still very much in the acting game. In recent years, he produced a feature film on Amazon titled, The Breaking Point; starred in Hulu’s show, Deadbeat, where he played a detective; and he also did an episode of the Good Wife recently. Additionally, he’s also starred in NBC’s series, New Amsterdam, as well as several more projects.

And just in case you thought you caught a glimpse of him in between watching your favorite TV show, you’re probably correct, because was featured on an AT&T commercial that was running for months.

He’s a Daddy To Beautiful Twin Girls

Today Sean Nelson is the father of toddler aged twin girls and he said he spends much of his time raising his “little angels.” He shared a photo (below) of his daughters online…

He Recalls That Time Samuel Jackson Once Slapped Him On Set:

Although he’s widely known for The Wood, Sean’s first major film was in Fresh, where he played the lead character, “Fresh,” alongside Samuel Jackson. Sean was 13 at the time and he recently shared a funny story recently about a “Fresh” scene where he had to cry and Samuel Jackson unexpectedly slapped the piss outta him to help him out, LOL. Here’s what Sean told Tyme Check:

“The scene where I had to cry, you know, [on the] first take it wasn’t happenin.’ So I was like sitting there trying to make myself cry and him [Samuel Jackson] tryna help, you know he starts smacking me trying to induce tears (laughs) and it just…it wasn’t working like, it just kinda made me mad, like ‘Man what are you doing?’ (laughs). That technique isn’t working alright, so let’s work on something else.’ So we cut and the director just spoke to me [and said] ‘Take as much time as you want and get into that place to build these tears up. And I felt like I could do it, so we just turned the camera on and we just took our time and I was breathing trying to think of something and it finally came out man…it all worked.”

After Fresh and The Wood, Sean went on to star in the HBO series, The Corner, but then after that he kind of disappeared from the spotlight for years. Sean recently revealed to KTelevision where he disappeared to:

“Right after ‘The Wood’ I went to Temple University, I decided to go to film school and I double majored, I winded up getting to bachelor of arts degrees in film and media Arts and African American Studies. After The Wood I went to Temple and then I took off a year and did The Corner and after that I just wanted to finish school you know. So [I] just wrapped up the next three years and then tried to get back in the game, but the thing is that at that point I had transitioned from a kid to an adult so now it’s kind of [like] starting over and re-establishing myself as an adult. So that’s what I’m doing now and I’m tryna play different roles too. I can play a doctor, I can play a cop…I’m a little bit older, even though I don’t look it (laughs).”
