Well, well, well, what do we have here? It seems like there’s finally some movement in the long-standing mystery surrounding the tragic murder of rap legend, Tupac Shakur. Brace yourselves folks, because the suspect, Duane “Keefe D” Davis, has just been granted bail. Yep, you read that right, bail. To the surprise of many, a Clark County judge has set the bail for Keefe D at a whopping $750,000. Now, that’s no chump change!

The whole saga has taken more twists and turns than a roller coaster ride. Keefe, the former Compton Crips gang leader, was indicted by a grand jury back in September, and since then, the legal battle has been going full throttle. His special public defenders, Robert Arroyo and Charles Cano, made a hefty motion to the judge, asking for Keefe D to be placed under house arrest and the bail not to exceed $100,000. That’s quite a bold ask, I must say.

Their argument was that Keefe D, despite his alleged involvement in Tupac’s murder, is not a threat to the community, nor a flight risk. They even claimed that his health had deteriorated significantly since his arrest and that his diet in jail was, well, let’s just say less than satisfactory.

But the prosecutors, not buying any of it, insisted that Keefe D is still very much part of the gang lifestyle and poses a threat to the community. They pointed to multiple interviews where Keefe, himself, boasted about ordering Tupac’s execution. Ouch, talk about incriminating evidence.

Now, here’s where it gets really interesting. If Keefe D manages to scrape together that colossal sum of $750,000, he’ll be placed under house arrest. Seems like a sweet deal, right? But let’s not forget, this is just one step in a long legal dance. Keefe is due back in court on February 20, 2024, for a status check, with his trial scheduled for June 3. So, it ain’t over till it’s over, my friends.

The twists and turns in this case have kept the whole world hooked for years. But let’s hope justice is served, and the truth about what really happened to Tupac finally comes to light. Even after their deaths, they continue to be topics of discussion. But there’s one person in their family you don’t hear much about – the slain rapper’s sister, Sekyiwa Shakur. But now, she’s shared her story and turned quite a few heads with her transparency in what she had to say.

She wanted to maintain her privacy because of her last name

During a past interview with All Hip Hop, Sekyiwa shared details about the difficulties she’s faced over the years. Although she’s spoken out now, she wasn’t always open to sharing her life with the public. Her brother’s inability to escape the public eye influenced her decision to keep her personal life under wraps. “I kind of like my privacy. Because [as seen with] my brother, his real name was his stage name, he couldn’t escape into a private world. I didn’t want my identity out there.”

Her battles with mental health, depression, and her parents’ personal struggles

Over the years, Sekyiwa said she had bouts with bipolar disorder and depression:

Via 2PacLegacy.net – When I was growing up my mother [Afeni Shakur] was going through depression,” [said Sekyiwa Shakur]. Her brain was cut off at a certain point, when I needed it. Her fighting times were when Tupac [Shakur] was being developed, between his birth and 13. All this stuff happened between Assata Shakur being broken out [of jail].

My father [Mutulu Shakur] is in jail for breaking Assata Shakur out of prison. This happened when I was 5.

I’m bipolar. I battle with depression and suicide on a daily.

I’ve been hospitalized twice. After I left the hospital, I went through intensive therapy for three years, going to the therapist three times a week. I moved to Sausalito, California, where there was nothing but high class white people. They didn’t even know who Tupac was. I really needed to separate myself from the black community and it was almost like I was in refuge there. I was able to build my spirit back.”

On her struggles with being “dark skin”

In a column she’d written for AOL’s “Black Voices,” Sekyiwa shed more light on her insecurities. With her brother in the limelight, her last name carried a lot of weight and she often felt like she didn’t measure up to the mainstream stereotypical views of beauty. For that reason, she often found herself depressed:

Sekyiwa Shakur- “Growing up, dark-skinned, Black, with short hair, in a revolutionary family with a name like Shakur you deal with American issues with beauty, the girls with the pigtails. We’are always the outcasts of the neighborhood, always the ugly girl with the short hair – the African. Then I started feeling a little better about myself, and The Color Purple comes out and now I look like Celie [the character played by Whoopi Goldberg]. My beauty was always who I am, and I took it from my mother, did my hair [naturally].”

After Tupac and their close friend, Khadafi, died Sekyiwa struggled even more

Even after winning a beauty pageant in high school, she was faced with another life-changing experience that, once again, made her question her beauty:

“When I was like 16 or 17, I won a beauty pageant in high school, something like the Black Nubian Queen,” explained Sekyiwa. “Six months after that, I got pregnant and I was a fat baby mama, living the life of a fat baby mama. When you have a beautiful person like Tupac as your brother, it’s a cruel mirror to look at, you know what I mean? He didn’t have the problems. I had the two of them [Khadafi and Tupac] once they died I wanted to put myself back to where they saw me. I had just let myself go.”

It’s a new day for Sekyiwa now

Things are quite different now for Sekyiwa “Set” Shakur– who’s now the proud mother of two children, Malik and Nzingha:

“When we moved back to Atlanta, where my family was, is when I was able to put all of my tools in play. So, just coming back home around black people, coming back to society and seeing the difference from how I was, before I went to the hospital, and how I am now and how I walk in my own faith and my own spirit. I’m not Afeni’s daughter, or Tupac’s sister, or Mutulu’s daughter, I’m my own being and I’m powerful.

Can you believe it’s been 29 years since “Bishop” (Tupac) killed “Raheem” (Khalil Kain) in the 1992 film, “Juice?” Let’s just pause and take that in for a second because I think it’s safe to say that many of us Old Schoolers probably feel like that time just flew by right up under our noses.

Okay now that we have all realized just how Old School we really are, we want to share a quick update with y’all on Khalil Kain.This dude is now 56 years old and is damn near aging in reverse!

Khalil Explains Why He ‘Assaulted’ Tupac

Khalil revealed to HotNewHipHop that Tupac was having trouble coming to terms with having to be the character to kill “Raheem” and what Khalil said he did next to provoke ‘Pac is hilarious:

“The day we filmed the part where Bishop shoots Raheem I could tell Pac was shying away from it. Shooting me didn’t feel right with him. And the first take we did was some bulls*it. It was flat. The next take, I slammed Pac in the garbage cans. Pac got up and said, “Alright…alright motherfu*ker! I can’t wait to bust you now!” It was on after that. We shot an amazing scene.”

Khalil also revealed that ‘Pac was on set telling them how big of a star he was going to be but none of them believed him:

“At the audition, ‘Pac very much was about separating the men from the boys. The man was hysterical. He was the first black man that I ever met in my life that told me to my face, “This time next year I’m going to be a millionaire.” He’s talking s*it, just running his fu*king mouth like, “Yeah, you motherfu*kers don’t know… I’m about to drop my album… I’m about to blow up!” We are all looking at Pac and laughing, “Ni$ga, shut the fu*k up…you are not going to do s*it!” But man, did he.”

Meet Khalil’s Pops

Khalil is half Chinese and half African American. His dad is, Gylan Kain, one of the founding members of The Original Last Poets. They were the group of poets and recording artists who were partly responsible for bringing spoken word to the forefront during the late ‘60s/‘70s eras and they are oftentimes dubbed as being one of the first group of artists to give way to the hip hop culture with their style of aggressive poetry delivery.

A Different World star, Jasmine Guy, and the late Tupac Shakur were much closer than the world ever knew. Not sure if there was ever an ‘entanglement’ between them, but their friendship sure was put to the test after ‘Pac was shot at Quad Studios in New York in 1994. In a prior interview featured on “The Art of Dialogue,” Jasmine Guy dropped several bombshells about her bond with ‘Pac and his family. She originally met ‘Pac when he had a guest appearance on A Different World. From there, they “started hanging out.” See what quietly transpired between them after Tupac’s ’94 shooting…

Tupac’s Mom “embraced” Guy at the hospital…

Jasmine first met Afeni Shakur and her sister in the hospital, after Tupac’s 1994 shooting. She says Afeni “embraced” her and they became friends afterwards.

“He had a lot going on” at that time…and he was scared…

Jasmine Guy: “First of all, he [Tupac] was shot 5 times, somebody wanted him dead, and walking around knowing that REALLY affected Tupac’s spirit. And there was a lot of what I call, spiritual fortification, going on around him. I mean, we were REALLY trying to just give that life back to him.”

Guy On Tupac’s Shooters & His Estranged Father Popping Up At Hospital…

JG: “There was fear, there was a LOT of mistrust. … Anybody who was involved in his recuperation had to go underground…because nobody [on the outside] could know anything. He was sure the people that shot him, knew him, that it wasn’t a random mugging. And the on top of that, he gets a visit from his biological father…who he hadn’t seen since he was…maybe 3 or 4.

For me, sitting on the sidelines while all of that was going on, my heart would always stop for a while and then just come back, because um…these were very emotional times. And I wasn’t a member of the family, but I was always around. For whatever Afeni embraced me for, I REALLY wanted to support them, and not just Tupac, but that family who depended on him COMPLETELY.”

Jasmine Guy Helped ‘Pac GO INTO HIDING After Shooting…

Soon after Tupac was shot, Jasmine says ‘Pac did not want to stay in the hospital, out of concern for his own safety. That’s when she opened up her heart and her home to him:

JG: “We realized that Tupac didn’t wanna stay in the hospital, or at his girlfriend’s house. So they [Tupac’s mom and aunt] called me to see if I could keep him while he was convalescing from his wounds. He had…5 bullet wounds that he was healing from, and he didn’t feel safe sitting up in the hospital bed.”

That’s Not All…Here’s What Else Jasmine Revealed…

Jasmine Guy Didn’t Care About Public’s Opinion Of Her Friendship With Tupac…Here’s Why…

“For me it was more about being there for the family and the trauma they were going through. They were a very close-knit family. And…I just felt happy that I could help in some way and that they allowed me to come into their very close circle. And also [happy] that…Tupac could chill a little bit and try to get better. … It was more about healing him and getting him strong, because he had a lot to deal with on the business level.”

Afeni and Pac’s “conflict”…
According to Jasmine, Tupac and Afeni loved each other to the core, but they also had consistent conflict over issues stemming from the past.

JG: “She’s a complicated woman. She’s very bright. Um…before her addiction took over, she was…very hard headed and very stubborn about the way she was gonna live and who wasn’t gonna tell her what to do. And then raising a boy child, who’s becoming a man- they had conflict.”

Wow, the things we learn when we do a lil’ diggin.’ It’s beautiful that Jasmine Guy was willing to help Tupac in his time of need.

Tupac’s Younger Sister

The world knows Tupac, but most never knew his younger sister, whom he was very close to and highly protective of. ‘Pac’s sister is four years his junior and they share the same mother, the late Afeni Shakur, but they have different fathers.

Her name is Sekyiwa Shakur, but her close loved ones refer to her by her nickname, ‘Set.’ The 44 year old sis’ of Tupac was also portrayed in his biopic, All Eyez On Me, in which ‘Pac referred to her as ‘Seky’ in the movie.

The entire time we watched Tupac become the iconic larger than life rap artist in the 90’s, Sekyiwa preferred staying behind the scenes. That’s why it wasn’t until after ‘Pac’s passing that his fans got a brief glimpse of Set, when she made a couple public appearances in honor of her big brother.

Her low key profile is also why most of us never knew she has two children with a 90’s rapper who was very close to ‘Pac. So close in fact, that he’s often described ‘Pac as being ‘like a brother’ to him and he had a tremendous amount of love for him.

In case y’all haven’t heard by now, Pac’s estate has just released his biopic in theaters, under much anticipation from his millions of fans. It damn near had a chance for the rolling credits of it’s first showing to roll, before Jada stared sounding off on social media about it.

In her continued effort to get the message across that although she and ‘Pac kissed ‘once’ back in the day and that they were ‘just friends,’ she had a lot to say about the portrayal of their ‘friendship’ in All Eyez On Me.

As many of us know, Jada and Tupac were really ‘good friends’ ever since they attended high school together in Baltimore, MD in the 80’s. So it was only natural that she be included in the film. However, apparently she didn’t have any input into her portrayal though, because on Twitter she went off about specific parts of the film she says are straight up lies.

Jada took issue with a poem that ‘Pac wrote about his deep love for her. Although she didn’t deny that the poem (shown below) is real, she says she didn’t even know it existed until after Pac’s post-humous poetry book was released. She also said that they never argued backstage at his show- a scene that was in the biopic.

Although she’s “deeply” hurt” by her portrayal, she still kept it classy by giving actor, Demetrius Shipp (‘Tupac’), and actress, Kat Graham (‘Jada’), their props for their excellent acting in the film.
