Troop’s Lead Singer’s A Sangin’ Somebody But Wait ‘Til U Hear His Grown Daughter

Steven Russell Harts is still spreading his wings in the music business.

Steven Russell Harts is one of five members from the legendary R&B group, Troop. While fans haven’t heard new music from Troop in awhile, Steven never left the music business. Now, it appears that one of his daughters has followed in her Pop’s footsteps.

Still In The Game:

Steven’s been singing since the age of 13. In an interview with Jet magazine, he shared how he would perform many of Michael Jackson’s songs and his singing talents were widely known in Pasadena, California. Troop started in high school after a producer noticed their singing abilities during their TV appearance on a show called, Putting on the Hits.

“My buddy Rodney B called me and said, ‘A producer called the show and was wondering if we could sing. Do you want to be in the group?’ I told him, “Heck yeah!” [laughs] I was in the 9th grade when Troop started. We got signed when I was in the 10th grade but our first single, “Mamacita” didn’t come out until 1988.”

Troop

Troop gave us fire hits throughout the 80’s and 90’s like, Spread My WingsAll I Do Is Thing of You and let’s not forget about Sweet November. Not only was Steve the lead singer of Troop, he S wore several other musical hats, such as a songwriter and producer and has written songs for Chris Brown, Jennifer Hudson, and Charlie Wilson. Initially, he was hesitant to take on new roles in the music business but his mom encouraged him.

“My mom brought it to my attention saying, ‘Son, you have to eat. You have to keep working until Troop comes back.’ When she told me that, I started to send songs to different people at record companies. That’s when things changed. My songwriting was better than my production skills; but people gave me opportunities to produce records because they loved my songs.”

Proud Pops

Not only is Steven Russell Harts a music producer and writer, he also is a dad to his five children. Harts is a private man and doesn’t discuss much about his kids publicly, however, he’s reportedly very active in their lives. What is even more dope is that it seems Steven has inspired some of them to follow in his footsteps. His daughter, Sia Amun, is a very talented artist in her own right.

Like her father, Sia Amun is a songwriter as well. She’s worked with artists such as Trey Songz, Lady Gaga, Tyrese Gibson, Keke Palmer, Will.I.Am and Mary J Blige, just to name a few. She’s extremely talented and just like her dad, she can SANG! Her highly anticipated album, The Blue Dream Project, was released in January of 2017 and is available on iTunes. So as you can see, although many of us may not have heard of her, she’s not new to this music game, she’s true to this.

According to We Plug Good Music, the Pasadena, Cali singer started singing as a youngin’, just lik her father at the age of 16. The singer/songwriter got a huge break when she started songwriting professionally at 18. Amazingly, her first professional music job landed her the opportunity of working on Lady Gaga’s platinum selling album, The Fame Monster in 2009.

About I Love Old School Music

We salute the incredible people and beautiful memories of that "old school". We’re not saying that every artist and every facet of the soul era was perfect, but the artists’ contributions to soul music and the old school memories of that particular time are PRICELESS.
