Update: RHOA’s Nene Gives New Info On Husband’s Cancer Prognosis, Asks Fans’ Advice

Posted On : June 14, 2018

Just a day after announcing her husband, Greg Leakes (63) was diagnosed with cancer, Nene (50) has resurfaced with an update on his progress and a thank you message for all of his well wishers.

Nene Leakes: Thank You all so very much! Excuse how i had to type this as i am at different appts with Gregg so i just type when i can to keep you guys updated❤️ #lifeoftheleakes

In a new online post, Nene gave conflicting updates. She revealed that Greg has now had surgery to remove the cancer from his body, but apparently that isn’t the end of his fight. She says he’s now faced with having to undergo chemotherapy-presumably to treat any remaining cancer cells that are possibly still in his body- and is asking fans for advice (swipe left on her IG post below):

“The cancer was removed!,” Nene wrote to her Instagram followers. “Now we have to decide whether we do chemo or not…Would you?”

In addition to thanking fans for showing so much love to Greg at this time, Nene also took a minute to thank her “Real Housewives of Atlanta” co-stars, past and present. In her post, she shouted out her homegirl, Cynthia Bailey, Kandi Burruss, Eva Marcille, Kenya Moore, Marlo Hampton, and Shamea Moore. She also thanked her RHOA rivals, Porsha Thomas and Kim Zolciak, as well as her former cast mates, Lisa Wu and Phaedra Parks. Each of those ladies apparently offered uplifting support to Nene and Greg and that’s a beautiful display of solidarity, regardless of any personal tension among them. Sometimes it takes heartbreaking situations, like this, to bring folks together.

In Case You Missed It

If you didn’t catch our prior report, on Wednesday (June 13) Nene announced that Greg is battling cancer. She shared a photo of him sitting in a doctor’s office chair, with his arms folded, in front of a computer that had the word “cancer” with a red line drawn through it on the screen.

In her photo caption, Nene (50) wrote, “Our New Normal and the fight begins,” giving a confident and hopeful message in the midst of her husband’s painful diagnosis. She also tagged her photo with the hashtags, “#F**kCancer,” “#YouGotThis” and “#ILoveYou.”

Although Nene didn’t go into detail about the stage, nor type of cancer Greg has been diagnosed with, she did reveal that he’s in one of the best cancer treatment facilities in America. In her post, she shared that Greg was apparently receiving treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Center, located in the Texas Medical Center in Houston. MD Anderson has a top ranking as one of the most astounding cancer treatment facilities ever, so it’s encouraging to at least know that Greg is in good hands.

This heart-wrenching news comes just weeks after Nene had to cancel several of her comedy shows in May, due to Greg’s unexpected extended stay in a hospital. In a heartfelt online video message to her fans at that time, Nene apologized for canceling her shows, but explained why it was the best decision for herself, her fans and Greg.

“Today marks the 15th day straight that Gregg has been in the hospital,” Nene stated in a video posted to Instagram. “I find it very difficult to stand on stage and laugh and have a good time and give you guys your money’s worth knowing that my husband is in the hospital not feeling well.”

At that time, she didn’t reveal the cause of his health problems, but clearly, Greg’s health was top priority and understandably so. Our continued prayers up for and well wishes to Greg Leakes at this time.

About I Love Old School Music

We salute the incredible people and beautiful memories of that "old school". We’re not saying that every artist and every facet of the soul era was perfect, but the artists’ contributions to soul music and the old school memories of that particular time are PRICELESS.
