As mentioned, this is an industry-wide situation involving Black hair. According to Baller Alert, Viola Davis‘ response was brought on by an article seen in Teen Vogue.
Also, model Oliva Anakwe posted about her experiences dealing with the lack of hair stylists available for Black women in the industry.
“Black models are still asking for just one hairstylist on every team no matter where your team is from to care for afro hair,” Anakwe mentions in her post. “I was asked to get out of an empty chair followed by having hairstylists blatantly turning their backs to me when I would walk up to them, to get my hair done.”

Nevertheless, Viola Davis says that she plans to change the dynamic with her company, JuVee Productions. She says her company will not be part of the issue that has persisted for so long.
We salute the incredible people and beautiful memories of that "old school". We’re not saying that every artist and every facet of the soul era was perfect, but the artists’ contributions to soul music and the old school memories of that particular time are PRICELESS.
