Wendy Williams Slams Patti Labelle For Discussing Luther Vandross’ Personal Life

Posted On : December 8, 2017

Yesterday, we reported about Patti Labelle’s interview with Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live. During the segment, the 73-year-old singer turned lots of heads when she openly discussed Luther Vandross’ sexuality.

Patti On Luther’s Sexuality:

Throughout Luther’s highly successful music career, many fans may have speculated he was gay although he never discussed his sexual orientation publicly. But when Patti appeared on the Bravo talk show, it was discussed publicly. She shed light on Luther’s inner struggle and why he chose to keep his sexuality a secret. “Basically, he did not want his mother to be — although she might have known, but he wasn’t going to come out and say this to the world.”

Wendy Slams Patti:

While many fans didn’t see anything wrong with Patti’s statements, apparently Wendy Williams wasn’t feelin’ it at all. So, she decided to blast Patti during the infamous “Hot Topics” segment of her show. When The Wendy Williams Show aired on Thursday, December 7, Wendy had some choice words for Patti. The talk show host basically told fans how she would have handled the situation differently if she were Patti being asked about her deceased friend. Wendy argues Patti crossed the line and violated her friendship with Luther. “She should have said ‘no comment’. If he had asked me something like that, then – it’s okay for me to talk about it. I didn’t know Luther Vandross.” Wendy continued, “He wasn’t my friend. But, it’s not okay to talk about it when it’s your best friend. You know? It’s like a violation.”

But Fans Aren’t Here For It:

So was Patti wrong? Apparently, fans have mixed opinions about the situation but most are defending Patti. While a few fans agreed with Wendy and argued Patti didn’t have a right to discuss the late singer’s private life, most of Patti’s fans weren’t here for Wendy’s bashing comments. Despite sharing details with Andy Cohen, people believe she tactfully answered the question without spilling all the tea. Shortly after Wendy’s statements began circulating on social media, she sparked a new debate for her opinion of Patti Labelle. Some of Patti’s fans even called Wendy out for the times she’s attempted to out more than a few allegedly gay black men even when she didn’t have solid facts to support her statements.

Despite all of the backlash, it probably won’t stop Wendy from slamming people because she does it for a living. But hopefully one day she gets the picture. Do you think Patti Labelle was wrong for speaking publicly about Luther Vandross? Share your thoughts.
