Whitney Slams The Hell Outta Paula Abdul In New Doc’…But Did She Have A Point?

Posted On : May 19, 2018

Whitney Houston was a REAL one, which is an understatement of the year, because we all know that the late legend stayed true to who she was at all times. That’s why it comes as no surprise that when it came to her opinion of singer, Paula Abdul’s vocal abilities, Whitney yet again kept it 100% real.

Whitney Shades Paula Abdul

In case y’all haven’t heard, there’s a new documentary releasing on July 6, titled “Whitney.” Whitney’s family gave consent for the film and it’s packed with several previously unknown revelations about the “Saving All My Love” star. Though it covers many serious topics about Whitney’s life- her drug history, sexual abuse, and sexual preference, one of the more comical parts, was her disdain for Paula Abdul’s talent…or lack thereof, according to Whitney.

At the 1:23 mark of the video trailer (above),  Whitney’s shown venting to her mother, Cissy Houston, when she blurts out:

“One thing—Paula Abdul ain’t sh*t! That girl is singing off-key on the record.” -Whitney Houston

Although it’s unclear if the ladies had some type of beef back then, it’s safe to say that Whitney was NOT bumpin’ Abdul’s albums at her house.

Paula and Whitney were at the top of the charts at the same time during the 80’s and 90’s, but they had very different styles of singing. We have nothing but love for Paula Abdul, but it’s not a secret that she was nowhere in the ballpark when it came to Whitney’s singing ability. In fact, Abdul has been known to not hit a note, or two, back then…she’d probably even admit that herself, if she’s honest about it. Therefore, the question is: Should we really call Whitney’s statement shade, or actual facts? Hmmm…

Whitney Was Sexually Abused By Famous Relative

As we previously reported, in  the upcoming “Whitney” doc, it was also revealed that Whitney was sexually abused by her famous female cousin, who was also the niece of Whitney’s mother, Cissy:

Via DailyMail- Mary Jones, Whitney’s aunt [and assistant] who found her body, claims Whitney had told her she had been sexually abused by Dee Dee Warwick – sister of singer Dionne [Warwick] – between the ages of seven and nine. She recalls Whitney saying: ‘Mary, I was [abused] too. It was a woman.’ Asked who it was, she said Miss Houston replied: ‘It was Dee Dee Warwick.’

Her half-brother Gary Garland-Houston corroborated the account and said he was also sexually assaulted by the younger sister of soul legend Dionne Warwick. […]

But Whitney never told her mother Cissy Houston about the alleged abuse because she “was ashamed,” according to her aunt. And a relative said Cissy would have attacked Dee Dee.

Dee Dee Warwick and her aunt, Cissy Houston, were members of the girl group, The Drinkard Singers, back in the day. The group released gospel albums and were background singers for many known artists, including Elvis Presley and Cissy’s niece, Dionne Warwick (Dee-Dee’s sister).

Several of Whitney’s family and friends, including her mother, Cissy Houston; sister-in-law, Pat Houston; brother, Gary Houston; as well as ex-husband, Bobby Brown, were interviewed for the film. The film aims to offer a deeper understanding into who Whitney was and the struggles she dealt with. Hopefully, Whitney’s struggles and triumphs will ultimately help others who have gone through similar situations.

About I Love Old School Music

We salute the incredible people and beautiful memories of that "old school". We’re not saying that every artist and every facet of the soul era was perfect, but the artists’ contributions to soul music and the old school memories of that particular time are PRICELESS.
