Coko and Garfield Bright of the 90’s group, Shai, were a couple back in the day too!
garfield bright of shaishai groupRemember Shai? They had EVERYBODY singing the lyrics to their 90’s love song: “And if I ever fall in love again. I will be sure that the lady is my freeing, and if I ever fall in love so true baby, I will be sure that the lady’s just like you-ooo-ooo.” Okay I couldn’t resist singing that line just now, but I digress.

Anyways, in a recent interview, SWV confirmed that Coko was dating Garfield at the height of their success. They revealed that all three of the guys who played their love interests in their music video for their song, “Weak,” were they’re actual, real life boyfriends at that time. Coko’s love interest was Shai member, Garfield. See it for yourself below…

There’s one more relationship Coko had with a hip hop cat back in the day. In that same Honey Magazine interview, it was confirmed that she was dating D-Roc. You may, or may not have heard of him, but he was a mover and shaker behind the scenes and he is hip hop mogul, Puff Daddy’s, best friend. D-Roc was also the long-time manager of Lil’ Kim and Notorious B.I.G, who’s likeness was portrayed in the movie, Notorious.

Old school fun fact:
SWV member, Tahj George, is the godmother of Coko and Ishmael’s son, Jazz.
Taj-GeorgeLike we mentioned earlier, Coko has been happily married to her husband, Mike Clemons, for many years now. Mike is one of the dopest drummers in the industry and he and Coko  also have a son together named Jalen, who will be 12 years old this year.

And there you have it ILoveOldSchoolMusic family, two of the baddest artists of the 90’s created a son in musical harmony with the most fitting name possible, Jazz. I tell ya’ we learn something new around here everyday.

By the way, how many of you are diggin’ SWV’s new jam called “Man Crush Everyday?” That joint is off the chain because they have found a way to still keep their timeless, SWV sound! Check it out below…

About I Love Old School Music

We salute the incredible people and beautiful memories of that "old school". We’re not saying that every artist and every facet of the soul era was perfect, but the artists’ contributions to soul music and the old school memories of that particular time are PRICELESS.
