Remember when actor, Joseph C. Phillips, played “Denise Huxtable’s” husband, “Lt. Martin Kendall” on “The Cosby Show?” His character was a clean cut, conservative kinda cat who loved him some “Denise.” Although “Lt. Kendall” and “Denise’s” marriage seemed like it would last forever, Joseph’s real life marriage is about to come to an end.

Divorce Details

News has just surfaced that his wife of 23 years, Nicole Phillips (pictured in above photo with Joseph), has just hit him with a divorce filing and plans on saying ‘Peace out’ to the father of her three kids- Connor, Ellis, and Samuel:

Via The Blast: According to court documents obtained by The Blast, Nicole Phillips filed for divorce back on July 19. She cites irreconcilable differences and says they split last November.[…] Nicole is seeking joint custody of Samuel (he is the only one of the three children that is a minor) and is asking the court to not allow Joseph to be awarded spousal support.

Joseph, his kids, and his soon-to-be-ex-wife live a pretty private life, so not much is known about they’re marriage. What we do know though, is that the spousal support she’s requesting has a greater shot at being larger now, than what it could have been about a year and a half ago. You see, although Joseph’s had several roles in films and television shows, including “General Hospital,” for the past few years, his acting gigs haven’t been as plentiful. Fortunately for Nicole, ever since 2017, he’s been back on the scene with his recurring role on the hit Netflix series, “13 Reasons Why.”

That Time He Blasted Bill Cosby: “Of Course Bill Cosby Is Guilty”

If there’s one thing we know Joseph C. Phillips to be, it’s outspoken. He’s a proud Republican, who’s oftentimes outspoken about his political beliefs. He’s also been very outspoken about his former “cosby Show” co-star, Bill Cosby.
Shortly after the first wave of sexual assault allegations against Cosby hit mainstream media, Joseph was the first “Cosby Show” actor to blast Bill in public. Well, at this point, none of the other “Cosby” stars have spoken negatively about Bill, with the exception of Lisa Bonet’s subtle shade.

Anyways, that didn’t stop Joseph though. In 2015, he wrote a lengthy blog post, titled “Of Course Bill Cosby Is Guilty!,” in which he discussed Bill’s sexual assault scandal. He admitted that he idolized Bill Cosby and stated that he owed much of who he is to Bill. Yet, he also had this to say, when recalling the encounter he’d had with an “old friend” who was also a known actress:

Joseph C. Phillips- “I was particularly shaken the afternoon I bumped into an old friend while shopping. The controversy was at its height. The story of Bill was all over the press. […] Over the years, I had watched with a passive interest as her career grew, so I was excited to see her and catch up a bit. As we spoke, I recalled that Bill had been her mentor (play father, teacher…something. I couldn’t quite recall what it was).

The question popped into my head. “Hey, do you mind if I ask you something?”

Before I finished the sentence, she began to cry. […] We spent the next two hours sitting on a bench talking. Through tears, she told me her story. She cursed him for violating both her trust and her body. She cursed herself for not being smarter, and for degrading herself in pursuit of success. I listened patiently. As she began to run out of steam, she turned to me. “Do you believe me?”

“Yes.” I said. “I believe you. … Because I don’t believe that you are crazy and only a crazy person would sit with me all this time and share a fantasy.”

About I Love Old School Music

We salute the incredible people and beautiful memories of that "old school". We’re not saying that every artist and every facet of the soul era was perfect, but the artists’ contributions to soul music and the old school memories of that particular time are PRICELESS.
