Years After Sommore Told Why They’re Not Close, Her Sister Nia Long Finally Spoke Out About Her

Biological sisters: actress, Nia Long; comedian, Sommore

They’ve both have built their brands separately for decades…and throughout it all, most of their fans never knew they were sisters. Actress, Nia Long (51), and comedian/actress, Sommore (55), are legends in their own right, but even when I Love Old School Music revealed, in 2016, that they were of the same bloodline, only one of them had spoken publicly on the matter – Sommore.

Though it’s unclear why, Nia never spilled the beans about them back then, her big sis’ once made it clear why she personally doesn’t like to talk about Nia in public (we’ll get to that in a minute though).

Nia Showed Her Sis, Sommore Some Love

Fast forward to years later, however, and the Boyz N’ The Hood veteran had finally said something to let her fans know that Sommore is in fact her sis.’ ‘Bout time!

In 2019, Nia paid homage to Sommore on Instagram (in a post that she’s now deleted), along with a short n’ sweet caption that read, “The funny one in the family. @sommore ❤️😜 #mybigsistergotjokes,” Long also shared a side by side photo of herself and Sommore. Of course many of her fans were stunned as hell to say the least, but there’s more…

Why Sommore Once Said You’ll Never See Her & Nia In Public Together

Sommore

Like we mentioned earlier, Sommore was the first of the two siblings to publicly speak about Nia. She also dropped some interesting info about the dynamic of their relationship at that time. Here’s what we previously reported…

When most fans think of the bond between black celebrity sisters, they probably envision those with unbreakable bonds likes of Phylicia Rashad and Debbie Allen, Tia and Tamera Mowry, or even the Braxton sisters. But, that’s not exactly the case when it comes to Nia and Sommore.

Speculation of Sibling Rivalry:

For many years, there was speculation of a sibling rivalry between the two ladies, but there’s actually much more to the story. Apparently, you won’t see the two sisters together because despite the fact that they technically are blood sisters, they “aren’t sisters” according to what Sommore said in an interview with Divine Martino:

“We share the same father but we’re not necessarily sisters.”

Sommore’s Confession

Sommore admitted that she and Nia weren’t raised together. She revealed they speak to each other in public and are cordial but don’t have a bond. During a previous interview, she initially didn’t reveal Nia was her sister because she wanted to solidify her own career without the help of Nia’s big name.

But, what does it mean now that the world knows they’re related? Well, Sommore was asked whether or not she gets asked about Nia. Of course, she offered a hilarious response:

“No. Most men that I run into already have a crush on Nia. You don’t know how many men offer, ‘Please can I come to the family reunion, please…?’”

So that’s the real reason we don’t see them together.

Check Out Their Pops…

They apparently inherited their creative, entertaining spirit from their Pops, Doughtry “Doc” Long (pictured above (L) with Nia Long and her husband), a notable poet and author of “Timbuktu Blues” and “Rules for Cool.” Doc was also a longtime teacher of literature and creative writing at Trenton Central, located in Trenton, New Jersey.

Pretty sure Doc Long is extremely proud of the successful women both of his daughters have become.
