Donnie Simpson

You know you’re a true Old Schooler (and proud of it), when you remember watching the legendary Donnie Simpson host his BET show, “Video Soul.” That ’80s/’90s era was a beautiful time for music and everybody who was anybody in the R&B game, sat on the couch to chop it up with the brotha who damn near single-handedly put BET on the map back then. The ageless 69-year-old legend – or “DJ Green Eyes” as he’s also known as -was, and still is, a sex symbol for his female fans who now listen to him on his Washington D.C. radio show, “The Donnie Simpson Morning Show.” However, all fans of Donnie’s will be surprised to know that he actually has a TWIN brother! How the hell they kept this on the low for so many years deserves an award of it’s own, but nonetheless, they were successful at it…until now.

Meet Donnie Simpson’s Twin Sibling

Pretty sure the ladies are gonna love this one. Donnie Simpson has sporadically given his fraternal twin brother, Lonnie Simpson, a shout out in public throughout the years. Even though they’re super close and ‘shared a womb’ together, as Donnie stated, they clearly have totally different opinions about being in the spotlight. Despite showing love to his brother with random public shout-outs, rarely has Donnie ever shown a photo of Lonnie- presumably because Lonnie isn’t attracted to the limelight, like his twin is.

We, here at ILOSM, have known about Donnie’s twin for many years now, but actually getting a photo that we could share of him, was like pulling teeth. No worries though family, we finally have a pic of the two together and here it is: Meet Lonnie Simpson…

Donnie and Lonnie Simpson, fraternal twin brothers

Same Birthdays, Totally Different Careers

Donnie and his twin, Lonnie, not only share different views about the famous life, they also chose two totally different career paths. Donnie loves being a radio personality- he’s been one for approximately 54 years. However, his brother had a different calling-Lonnie Simpson is a preacher and has been one for many years as well. Yep, folks, Lonnie’s career is a far cry from the days of his twin, Donnie, interviewing the likes of the late, great Whitney Houston during her “Saving All My Love For You” era…or Bobby Brown, during his “My Prerogative” bad boy phase.

Nevertheless, Donnie respects the hell outta his twin bro’ and his religious calling to the fullest, as was displayed in his prior Twitter post…

Donnie Simpson: “My twin brother Lonnie is the greatest person I have ever met! Any situation he faces gives him one way to react. That book [the Bible] gives my brother the preacher the answer.”

Donnie Simpson and his fraternal twin brother, Lonnie Simpson

Even though the Simpson twins’ interests are vastly different, their brotherly love is unconditional, which Donnie also displayed proved on their January 30th birthday this year, when he wrote this:

“I swear it seems like I just celebrated my birthday a month ago. It’s amazing how fast they come now. It’s like when they try to show the passage of time in movies by having the gentle wind blow the pages of a day calendar. That wind is now a hurricane. 😂

I’m so blessed to pass these years with the guy I came into this joint with though. Although I’m 53 minutes and 6 seconds older than my twin brother, it’s him who lights the way for me. I thank God for him, his heart and his grace.

Happy Birthday Lonnie!! 🎂”

Donnie’s & Lonnie’s Other Siblings

The Simpson siblings’ mother, Mrs. Dorothy Simpson, inside her Detroit, MI record store, Simpson Records

There are six Simpson kids in total. They grew up in their parents’ (Dorothy and Calvin Simpson) Detroit, MI record store, Simpson Records, which remained opened for well over four decades. Given their upbringing, at least one of them were destined to be in the music business one way or another. However, it turns out, that three Simpson siblings ended up taking a music business route. Donnie became a radio personality by age 15; his brother, Calvin Jr. owned a chain of wholesale record stores, called Bad Records; and their other brother, Harry became a DJ in Detroit.

When Donnie became the in-demand TV host of “Video Soul,” his mother, Dorothy, confessed that she had a love for music but had no clue, at that time, what exactly he was doing:

“I remember records, eight tracks, four tracks, cassettes, all that. But I also remember thinking: ‘What’s a video?’” laughs Mrs. Simpson.

Beautiful memories from Mrs. Simpson, and a true sign of the times indeed.

Who are the three lovely young ladies in the above photo? Well, there isn’t a simple answer to such a complicated question. These ladies go by the name, The Womack Sisters. So, your first guess would likely be ‘They must be Bobby Womack’s daughters,’ right? Nope, their truth is far more complex. So lets dig into their truth — it begins with Sam Cooke. Follow me on this web of relationships that produced these beautiful young ladies with a last name so renowned and respected in soul music.

The Breakdown Of Their Complicated, Yet Iconic Family Tree

Sam Cooke

Soul singer, Sam Cooke, married his then-wife, Barbara Cooke. After Sam passed away, Barbara then married his close friend, blues music legend, Bobby Womack. Barbara already had a daughter, Linda Cooke, who is the child from her prior marriage to Sam Cooke. Then the plot thickened even further. So, not only did Barbara and Bobby Womack wed, but Bobby had an affair with…wait for it…Barbara’s then-young daughter, Linda Cooke!

Bobby Womack

Yes, Bobby Womack married Sam Cooke’s widow, Barbara, and eventually began an affair with her and Sam’s daughter; Linda (for which he got shot, but that’s another story) during their marriage. You following me thus far ILOSM fam’? Okay, good. But hol’ up, wait a minute though…there’s more…

[L] Sam Cooke with then-wife, Barbara Cooke; [R] Bobby Womack with then-wife, Barbara Cooke, whom he married shortly after his friend, Sam’s passing
Linda Cooke (pictured below) then breaks up with her stepfather-turned-boyfriend, Bobby Womack. Linda began dating Bobby’s BROTHER, Cecil Womack, whom she eventually married, taking on the name Linda Cooke-Womack. Linda and Cecil had seven children together….hence, you have The Womack Sisters!

In short, The Womack Sisters are the children of Linda Cooke-Womack (Sam Cooke’s daughter) and Cecil Womack (Bobby Womack’s brother). They are also the granddaughters of both Sam Cooke, and his — and Bobby Womack’s — ex-wife, Barbara Cooke. And their Mother’s ex-boyfriend is their uncle, Bobby Womack. Whew…that was a loaded entanglement to unpack wasn’t it?!!

The Womack Sisters’ Parents, Cecil and Linda Womack

The Womack Sisters’ parents, Linda Cooke-Womack (Sam Cooke’s daughter Bobby Womack’s former stepdaughter-turned-ex-girlfriend), and Cecil Womack (Bobby Womack’s brother)

By the way, Linda and Cecil Womack had a successful recording career under the name, Womack & Womack, penning songs for artists such as Wilson Pickett, James Taylor, Teddy Pendergrass, Patti Labelle, Debbie Harry, Eric Clapton and Elton John.

Watch The Womack Sisters Perform – They Can SANG!

What do The Womack Sisters do, you ask? Their R&B group consists of sisters, BG, KC, and Imani – three soulful vocalists and songwriters, who also sometimes go by the name:

The Womack Sisters are performing to crowds of 10,000 plus, working with the Rolling Stones, Kid Rock, Bonnie Rait, Ozzy Osborne, Annie Lennox and many more, are all in their own way life changing moments that have crafted the sound, the feel and the depth of the Womack Sisters.

Wow, what a rollercoaster! But we’re glad to see that The Womack Sisters are in touch with their musical roots, because those ladies can SANG. Check out one of their live performances below…

As you can see, those musical genes rom their iconic family tree runs all up, down, and through their DNA. Wishing The Womack Sisters much continued success.

And simply because we dig Sam Cooke’s and Bobby Womack’s music, here at I Love Old School Music, enjoy two of their classics below…

Raphael Saadiq

Singer/musician, Raphael Saadiq, has always been a private dude. So, for decades, not much has been known about his past. There’s one fact he revealed in recent years, that most fans of the former Tony! Toni! Toné! lead singer never knew. He once worked for the late, great Prince and when you see what Prince made him do, you will probably flip out…or at least lightly chuckle.

Raphael Saadiq On Working With Prince Back In The Day

In an interview with The Quietus, Raphael Saadiq revealed that at the age of 18 he auditioned to be Prince’s protege’ and also part of the band Prince created for Sheila E., during their “Parade Tour.” He was shocked when he made it, but didn’t let Prince know:

“I was taught by my dad not to look excited at the point Prince said my name. I played the bass guitar in my audition like Prince meant absolutely nothing to me,” [said Saadiq]. It worked, even if Prince’s non-standard take on masculinity would later come as a surprise.

What Prince Made Raphael Saadiq Do

The hilarious part is that Saadiq says in order to be in the band, he really had to become one of “The Blouses” that the late Charlie Murphy once spoke about in his infamous “Chappelle Show” skit. Check out what Saadiq said below…

Raphael Saadiq: “To be in the band you had to wear a ton of make-up, it was mandatory. You had to almost sign a contract to wear eyeliner, blusher and basically look like a girl. That Dave Chappelle skit was no joke, we literally were The Blouses!” After the shows with Prince, Saadiq would transform his appearance getting dressed back into a bomber jacket, Detroit Titans baseball cap and white T-shirt while rocking some 501s and Nike Quartet sneakers. “Prince liked that I dressed differently cos’ he could see I was my own person. I knew when I was playing ‘Erotic City’ in Yokohama, Japan, that my life had sort of changed.”

HILARIOUS! So that Charlie Murphy skit was exactly on point! Gotta love Prince..I tell, ya.’ Saadiq had more to say though…

Saadiq Not Fond Of Grammys, Nor Losing To Jennifer Hudson

Saadiq also discussed the #GrammysSoWhite backlash the Grammy Awards received a few years back, and why he chose to skip them. Not only did the talented musician and singer seemingly feel disrespected by losing to Jennifer Hudson in 2016, but he also agrees that the Grammy’s are out of touch with Black music.

“They’ve [The Grammy Awards] 100% lost their way and are out of touch. I remember The Way I See It lost to J-Hud at the Grammys! I wasn’t even surprised. If you have a day job and work in a corporate building then that’s who that show is for. Britney Spears won a Grammy before Steely Dan, that’s crazy!” Rather than ‘fix the Grammys’ as the likes of Kanye West have suggested, Saadiq says we should just let them die: “There’s no point sitting down and talking about it. All awards shows needs to get off TV and just die. Music would be much better if people didn’t make it for an award.”

Also when randomly asked about Donald Trump, Saadiq kept it real: “He is a comedian and a waste of time.”

These days, Raphael Saadiq is scoring several cable television series, including the hit HBO series, “Insecure,” starring Issa Rae. He’s also been in the studio working on FIRE music for true R&B music lovers to vibe to.

Remember when actress, Tyne Daly , played the tough “Detective Mary Beth” on the TV show, Cagney & Lacey? Well, what many of us didn’t know was that during that time, Tyne was married to a very popular actor who had a significant role in the Alex Haley TV miniseries, Roots. Tyne and this “Roots” actor were married for 24 years — a true feat for Hollywood couples — and have three children together.

Tyne Daly and her then-husband, actor Georg Stanford Brown

He starred as “Chicken George’s” (Ben Vereen) son, “Tom,” from the historic miniseries, Roots. You know him well, his name is Georg Stanford Brown (79).

Georg is also known for his roles in The Rookies, Stir Crazy, and most recently the FX drama, Nip/Tuck. He and the 77-year-old “Cagney & Lacey” veteran’s romance seems really unlikely, but their story is actually interesting.

Georg Stanford Brown as “Tom” in “Roots”

They started dating in 1965 when they met at at American Musical and Dramatic Academy that they both attended. She was a privileged, White rich kid with the successful actor dad, James Daly, and Georg Stanford Brown was the financially poor Black kid from Harlem, who was working hard to pay his tuition, by being the school’s janitor. As you can see, they came from two different worlds, but they fell in love and as we mentioned earlier, had 24 years of marital bliss from 1966 to 1990.

Georg was born in Havana, Cuba to West Indian parents who didn’t have much money, but he said they always made sure to expose him to things that would spark his creativity with books, travel and music. “That gave me the vision and feeling that I wouldn’t settle for what surrounded me,” says Georg.

It sounds like their incredible passion for acting is what brought these two together and through their union, they produced three daughters, Alyxandra Brown (37), Alisabeth Brown (55), and Kathyrn Dora Brown (52), who is also an actress in film and television.

Meet Their Kids

Kathryne Dora Brown is a actress, who’s made appearances on television shows like “Private Practice” and “Reading Rainbow.”

On a side note, our girl Tyne Daly also dated the man best known as Prince’s dad in the film, Purple Rain, Clarence Williams. They were an item for years and they started dating after her divorce from Georg Stanford Brown, but they’re no longer together.

Remember the trainer/manager who first trained “Apollo Creed” and then “Rocky Balboa” in the film, Rocky? We all knew him as “Tony ‘Duke’ Evers,” the no-nonsense character, but what we didn’t know is that the real man behind the character, the late Tony Burton, had something in common with “Duke.”

In real life, he was a boxer, before the world ever knew him. He even won the Michigan Golden Gloves Light Heavyweight Boxing Championship and boxed professionally for a short time.

But before Burton got his start in acting, he was living the wild life on the streets and going for broke every chance he got. One day his luck ran out and he got hit with three and a half years in prison for robbery. He served his time at the California Institution for Men in Chino, CA.

Realizing robbing folks was bad decision, he began attempting to turn his life around while in prison and you better believe that he definitely flipped the script on his destiny! While in the pen,’ Burton got focused and eventually earned his college degree behind bars. He also found his other true passion- acting.

In past interviews, he revealed that his agent never wanted him to make his prison time known to the public, but he wasn’t trying to hear that because of this reason:

“I prayed and it was revealed to me that I should let it be known. How can I show what Christ did for me, unless I tell my story of what it was?”

“Prison for me, was productive because I applied myself while I was there. I got my high school diploma and degree from the University of California. But most important, I got myself together and found out who I was and how I could proceed without destroying myself.”

Via Calhoun Times: In prison, Burton said he lost his urge to steal. He was also introduced to the joys of acting in a group that used psychodrama as a form of therapy. in one exercise Burton did with another prisoner, burton said his acting partner had an emotional breakthrough that made Burton realized the power of theater and propelled him on his current career.

After prison Burton started acting in small theater groups in L.A. and he eventually acquired an agent- the same agent as Carl Weathers a.k.a. ‘Apollo Creed.” realizing Burton’s acting abilities, Carl actually helped to land Burton the role of “Duke” in Rocky.

After all that he’s been through Burton said this of his success: “I never expected it and I’m grateful because I realize it didn’t have to happen to me. I’m just grateful I’m the one the Holy Sprit chose.”

It’s no secret that many Black men, whether falsely accused or not, have unfortunately had some type of brush with the law, or served serious prison time like Burton, but he is another excellent example of what it means to not allow your current circumstances/realities dictate your destiny. We have the power to create the destiny that we want to live, we just have to fight beyond our personal comfort zones to end any unhealthy cycles and pathologies we’ve learned along the way, and acquire or build on the healthy ones.

Tony Burton sadly passed away on February 25, 2016 at age 78, after complications from pneumonia. Respect to Burton for having openly shared his story and his wisdom with the world.

Dave Chappelle; R. Kelly

Everybody and their Mommas remember the infamous Dave Chappelle Show, right? That was when Dave and his crew created some of the most epic TV sketch comedy moments of the early 2000’s and we loved it.

One said epic moment many will never forget, was Dave’s “Piss On You” skit, which made clowned R. Kelly over the infamous allegation that he enjoys urinating on young females during sex. Well, although the controversial skit drew high ratings and laughs across TV land, R. Kelly and his “goons” were far from laughing. In fact, according to Chappelle, they were hella pissed. He’s now revealed what went down and that too, was epic.

Chappelle’s Run-In With R. Kelly Was Dangerous…And Hilarious

For Starters, Here’s A Quick Refresher Of “Piss On You Skit”

In the Dave Chappelle Show skit, Chappelle dressed as a fake R. Kelly and sang: “Take me to your special place/ Close your eyes, show me your face…I’m gonna piss on it. ** Haters wanna hate/lovers wanna love/ I don’t even want none of the above/I want to piss on yoooouuu.”

To Make Matters Worse (For R. Kelly)

As ‘fake R. Kelly’…when Chappelle was shown singing in a club, serenading a young woman while holding a toilet seat up to her head, fans cracked up at the comical and shocking satire of it all…except R. Kelly.

R. Kelly’s “Goons Bust” Into Chapelle’s Dressing Room At Common’s Concert?

Dave stepped on stage at the WeHo Improv comedy spot where his former Chapelle Show co-star, Donnell Rawlings, was performing, to recall the day R. Kelly and goons stepped to him:

“We was in Chicago at a Common show and his goons bust in my room. …I don’t know if it was [Kelly’s] goons [but] they sure did like him.”

Then R. Kelly Emerged

Dave Says Kellz Asked The Oddest Question. Chappelle: “He [R. Kelly] said, ‘How are you gonna do the video of me peeing on [girls] like that?’

Dave’s Reaction Was Priceless

“And I said, ‘How YOU gonna do a video of you ‘peeing on b**ches like that’?!!” Chappelle told R. Kelly. Then he burst into Kellz’ lyrics, “My mind’s telling me NOOOO!” and the crowd fell out.

But Then Dave Got Serious And Gave A Bold Message On the Mic

Chappelle Urged Comedians To Keep Steppin’ Up To Call Out Wrongdoings. Dave unapologetically urged the comedians who were in the audience, to continue calling out wrongdoings, like he’d done with R. Kelly:

“Let’s make a comedy movement where ni&&as say what’s wrong, because…it’s gotta be done…”

What Chappelle & D. L. Hughley Said About The Skit

D.L. and Dave were leaving a restaurant together a while back, when a cameraman stopped them to ask about the backlash Chappelle received over the R. Kelly skit, following the Surviving R. Kelly doc.’ Dave didn’t sweat it, but D.L. called out R. Kelly and Michael Jackson, stating, “Ultimately, they’re great singers, but horrible babysitters.”

Thoughts ILOSM family?

Ralph Tresvant

Ralph Tresvant isn’t just a talented singer and performer. He’s also a doting father of four children he loves dearly. For those who don’t know, the Roxbury, Massachusetts native has two sons, Ralph Jr. and Dakari, and two daughters, Mariah and Na’Quelle. It also looks like Ralph’s talent has rubbed off on one of his children – his first born child, Na’Quelle.

Now a beautiful, married adult with her own child, Na’Quelle Tresvant is looking to make a name for herself in the music industry. Needless to say, not only is she strikingly beautiful, but she has an amazing voice just like her father. *Scroll down to see her mother, husband and kids*

However, Shelly’s name may not have been one you heard in The New Edition Story because their storyline was altered a bit. In the biopic, her name was changed because she did not want to be associated with the film. Her name was changed to “Zena” in the popular biopic and, of course, the change didn’t go unnoticed by fans. Many took to Twitter to share their reaction to the change.

**

For those who don’t know, Ralph and Shelly went through a bitter divorce. Despite being each other’s childhood sweethearts who grew up to have three children and many years together, things went awry as Ralph embraced stardom. They eventually divorced in 1996, after three years of marriage. After the divorce, Ralph married his second wife, Amber Serrano, in 2004, whom he welcomed his fourth child, Dakari, with.

Despite all of the drama and Ralph’s level of stardom, his gorgeous daughter, Na’Quelle, has revealed that she and her father are very close and she actually lived a relatively normal lifestyle.

She first realized her father was famous when he arrived to pick her up from school one day. As he approached his daughter, a group of starstruck girls flocked to him and immediately began losing their minds over the fact that the Ralph Tresvant was standing before them. Of course, all of the attention and pandemonium seemed odd to Na’Quelle but that’s when she said she’d first realized her Pops wasn’t like everyone else’s father. Ralph Tresvant’s name carries weight! You can check out what else she revealed in her interview with ‘The OTAP Show’ below…

Na’Quelle’s Husband and Adorable Kids

Na’Quelle’s pops is one of the biggest legends in R&B music, so it was only natural that she married a man who’s also in the music industry. That man is her music producer husband, Darius “King D” Smith…

Darius and Na’Quelle have three children together- two sons and one daughter son.

Ralph must be really proud of his daughter, Na’Quelle, and she has a beautiful fam.’ Hopefully, her music career will soon soar to new heights as well! She definitely has an amazing voice to match her beautiful looks and besides, we’d love to see another ‘Tresvant’ in the game. Be sure to check out Naquelle Tresvant’s music HERE.

[L] Tommy Chong; [R] Tommy’s daughter, actress Rae Dawn Chong
Most of us, Old Schoolers, remember when Cheech & Chong cracked us up, while getting high as a kite in their comedy movies back in the day. They were free spirits on camera and in real life, Tommy Chong is also a free spirited, outspoken dude. Apparently, he raised his daughter/actress, Rae Dawn Chong, the same way. That couldn’t be more evident after the brutal opinions she gave made about Oprah Winfrey.

Though Tommy and Rae Dawn Chong share the same last name, most fans never knew that “Squeak” from The Color Purple a.k.a. “Harpo’s” high pitched voiced wife- was related to Tommy. She and her Pops are very close though…so close, that he defended her controversial bashing of her Color Purple co-star, Oprah Winfrey.

A few years ago, Rae caught major flack for the way she dragged Oprah Winfrey in on Matty P’s Radio Happy Hour internet radio show, as she recalled the tension between them and she took several low blows.

NOW See Why She Called Oprah A “House Ni&&er”

“Miss Sofia” & “Squeaky” Had Beef Real Life?…

Rae Dawn Chong said everything was all good between her and Oprah Winfrey while filming the 1985 classic, The Color Purple, but that Oprah turned into a “total bee-yotch” after Rae filmed her next big movie, Commando, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger- also released in ’85:

“I starred in Commando. And she just wasn’t having me. She’s competitive. She didn’t like me. She just wasn’t having me.”

During her slamming of Oprah, she called her everything from a “brown noser,” to a “fat chick” who would have been a “field nigger” instead of a house nigger during slavery…

– “If you look at the way [Oprah] looks, she looks like 60 years ago she would have been a house keeper luckily. She would have not been a house n**ger she would have been a field n**ger.”

– “She’s so enormously insecure. If you wanna distill Oprah Winfrey down to like her most basic components. She wants to be beautiful.”

-“Imagine being [Oprah]. She has all of the world. All the power in the world … and she only wants something that is only chemical, purely impossible.”

That Ain’t All She Had To Say Though

Rae Dawn Chong continued with more jabs…

– “The thing that’s really great about Oprah that you can’t take away from her, is that she’s a great brown-noser. … If you were in a room with her, she would pick the most powerful person and she’ll become best friends with them.”

– “When we worked with her the one thing about Oprah, she was that fat chick that was the wannabe cheerleader in school, that was the student council president that was best friends with the principal.”

Rae also gave Oprah a nice-nasty compliment for being a self-made mogul:

“No matter how vile she is, you kinda gotta go, ‘hello hats off’ like, you’ve done an amazing thing you have actually shifted the DNA of the universe.”

After Backlash, Rae ‘Clarified’ Her Comments…

Tommy Chong with his daughter, Rae Dawn Chong

Following the backlash, Rae Dawn and her Pops spoke out in her defense and to offer further clarity into why she went at Oprah so hard.

In a now private Youtube response, Rae said she “regrets” some of her remarks about Oprah, but not all of them:

R.D. Chong: “I told my story about my experiences with O… Will I have to live under armed guard for ten years because of this? You know people think I just sat back and called O a bunch of ugly names and blasted her just because? It just isn’t true.”

Tommy Chong’s Response…
Tommy Chong also said his daughter’s statements were “taken out of context”:

“If you think of what [Rae Dawn] said, she said back in the day Oprah would be working in the field because she’s not that beautiful…whereas if you’re beautiful, you’re part of the master’s bedroom,” stated Tommy Chong.

Moral of the story: Don’t say something you may regret later…unless you’re bold enough to stand by it, no matter the consequences.

Vanessa Williams

From music to film, Vanessa Williams has captivated fans of all ages. Most of us Old Schoolers remember all too well when the 60-year-old bangin’ beauty became a known face in 1984, after garnering much attention when she was crowned Miss America. We also recall that infamous moment her Miss America crown was snatched after she found herself at the center of controversy due to her hot and heavy Penthouse magazine photos that were printed without her consent.

But despite her pageantry setback, Williams’ career evolved onto bigger and better things. In the late 80’s she dropped timeless hits like “Dreamin,'” “Running Back to You,” “The Comfort Zone,” and the Academy Award-Winning “Colors of the Wind,” to co-starring in memorable films like Eraser, Shaft, and of course Soul Food, Williams has done a lot in her career. In 2016, she also launched a fashion line. Through all of her accomplishments, most of her fans never knew she isn’t the only member of the Williams fam’ who has made a name for themselves in the entertainment world…

Meet Vanessa Williams’ Famous Brother

Actors/siblings, Vanessa Williams and Chris Williams

Her brother, Chris Williams (55), also caught the acting bug many years ago and has been featured in a number of big films. You may have seen Chris Williams- the brotha known by many woman not just for his acting abilities, but for his good looks- on TV or film. But you may have had no clue he was Vanessa’s brother. Check out the various projects he’s been a part of…

Chris Williams has an impressive filmography, with a long list of credits for his work in numerous films like The Joneses, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story and Lottery Ticket, and TV shows like The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Martin, Californication, and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. In fact, one of his first memorable roles was in Friday After Next, when he played the hilarious crackhead, ‘Broadway Bill,’ who robbed ‘Money Mike’s’ (Katt Williams) clothing store and ultimately got busted by ‘Craig’ (Ice Cube) and ‘Day-Day’ (Mike Epps). ‘Money Mike’ then proceeded to try to slice him up with an old school box cutter, as ‘Broadway Bill’ taunted him and to this day, that scene is still one of the most hilarious in the movie. Watch that clip below and get your laugh on…

What Chris Williams Is Doing Now

Vanessa Williams’ brother, actor Chris Williams

Although his Friday After Next role was small, these days Chris has moved on up like The Jeffersons in terms of the roles he gets now. He’s a long way from the cameo appearance type of roles and has actually found his place on television – just like his sister, Vanessa – did some years ago. Chris now has recurring roles on the TV shows, The Great Outdoors and Silicon Valley.

And there ya’ have it ILOSM fam’…if you didn’t know, now you know…there are TWO talented Williams siblings gracing the world with their gifts through film, music, and television. Their Mother must be beyond proud of her babies.

Jamie Foxx

I Love Old School Music family, we’re continuing to keep Jamie Foxx in our thoughts and prayers as he continues his hospital stay in Atlanta, GA.

As you all may have heard, the actor/singer was rushed to the hospital Tuesday (4/11/23), after suffering a major “medical emergency.” Fast forward 48 hours later, and his family says his condition is improving…although it doesn’t appear that he’s completely recovered just yet.

Here’s what’s now been reported:

Via TMZ– Sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ … Jamie Foxx “is doing a lot better,” even joking with his family. That said, we’re told the medical emergency was serious, and doctors still haven’t gotten to the bottom of what happened to him. We’re told he’ll be in the hospital for at least a few more days, while doctors perform tests.

Embed from Getty Images

Thankfully, this is good news in comparison to Jamie’s initial condition on Tuesday. Although his eldest daughter, Corrine, didn’t broke the news publicly until Wednesday, she shared the news that he was ‘doing much better, and that he’d immediately received “great care” when the medical complication occurred.

That same day, it was also revealed that Jamie’s condition was so dire, that family members — including several of who were not in Atlanta — flew in to see him in the hospital. One source connected to his situation then shared that “[Jamie’s] communicating now, and that’s good news”…which gave a clearer picture of just how terrifying Jamie’s condition had previously been.

Jamie has been stationed in Atlanta, filming “Back In Action” with actresses, Glen Close and Cameron Diaz. But it’s not quite clear if he was on set at the time of his Tuesday morning medical emergency. It also hasn’t been revealed when the film will resume shooting.

Daughter, Corrine, is requesting this of Jamie’s fans:

“We know how beloved he is and appreciate your prayers. The family asks for privacy during this time.”

Sending much love and healing energy to Jamie Foxx. Get well soon, king.
