(Video) Does Eric Benet’s Daughter Have The Skills To Make It In Music?

passed away on April 24, 1993 from injuries suffered in a car accident, when India was just one-year old.

There’s no doubt that growing up with a singing dad, had to have rubbed off on her. Some of you may remember seeing her when she was a teenager sitting alongside Eric at several award shows, or being photographed with Eric and his then-wife, Halle Berry (who allegedly tried to gain custody of India after she and Eric divorced…interesting right?) when she was younger. India’s now 23 years old. Doesn’t this kind of remind you of when we saw other father-daughter singing sensations? How about Rufus Thomas and his baby girl Carla Thomas in the early 60s? Then there was the “Unforgettable” song and video tribute of the same name by Natalie Cole and her dad – legendary Nat‘King’ Cole. In years past, we’ve seen dads do years of performing in groups like The Staple Singers with ‘Pop’ and his daughters and the Emotions from early on when they were doing Gospel with their dad. Stevie Wonder continues performing with his baby, Iesha, on stage too and there were even rumors of Bobby Brown doing something with daughter, Bobbi Kris. That one, we’re still waiting on, but back to India singing with dad Eric, they can easily do a duet smash. Her voice compliments him well.

There is definitely a need in the industry for Eric Benet, who was nominated for several Grammy and NAACP Image Awards and who’s biggest hit is his only number one R&B charter “Spend My Life With You” ft. Tamia. When discussing his hit “Spend My Life”, he says “It’s a humbling experience to still have a song like that resonate for so long. To hear that it’s still played at weddings means the world to me.” Maybe his daughter will be able to say that one day too. Keep doing your thing India!

About I Love Old School Music

We salute the incredible people and beautiful memories of that "old school". We’re not saying that every artist and every facet of the soul era was perfect, but the artists’ contributions to soul music and the old school memories of that particular time are PRICELESS.
