Why Rock Wanted His Mother To Die

While Chris and Malaak were battling divorce proceedings a few years ago, his Mother was battling cancer. Then to make matters worse, Rose Rock was being treated at Sloan Kettering in New York -a facility on the same street as his divorce attorney’s office.

During a brutally honest interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Chris recalled that extremely difficult period in his life:

“I thought that was the most evil street in the world,” said Rock.

During his Mother’s cancer battle, Chris took care of his Rose Rock in the New Jersey home he’d purchased for her many years ago. Ironically, the home is in the same neighborhood as his ex-wife’s home- another stab to the gut. Obviously, there was no escaping the turmoil he was facing. His Mother’s health had deteriorated so badly, that her outcome looked bleak to Chris and he didn’t want his children to see any of it. So as much as painful as it was, Rock did what he felt was the best thing to do for his Mom at that time:

“There was days where I just prayed she would die when the girls were at their mother’s,” he says. “I didn’t want them to see that.”

The Silver Lining

Although Chris and Malaak are now officially divorced, the silver lining is that Mama Rock has fully recovered and Chris, his comedian brother, Tony Rock, and their many siblings couldn’t be more grateful.

Chris is also starting to see the benefits of having shared custody of his two daughters with Malaak, something he admittedly had to get adjusted to at first because he didn’t like the thought of seeing his children only half of the time. He also has something else to feel great about: Not only is Rose Rock an accomplished teacher, author, and an excellent mother, she’s also a fighter.
