GLADY’S NAME STILL ISN’T REMOVED

Gladys Knight’s Chicken & Waffles will formerly be going by the name, The World Famous Chicken & Waffles. Apparently the paperwork has been legally changed to remove Gladys’ name, as well as all of her memorabilia and likeness from the restaurant, but the restaurant’s signage is still awaiting it’s new replacement. So as of now, the restaurant still bares Gladys’ name and according to CNN, the employees still greet customers on the phone as Gladys Knight’s Chicken & Waffles restaurant, not as The World Famous Chicken & Waffles just yet.

KARMA FOR GLADYS’ SON, OR BAD LUCK?

It’s been an uphill battle for Gladys Knight, because she’s had to go through a humiliating public legal battle with her own son. Shanga owns the restaurant and she only leased her name to him to help him with his business. But after his many legal/tax issues (in which his employees alleged he’d spent the tax money on weed, strippers, and vacations) and bad business practices, Gladys wanted her brand detached from her son’s restaurant. Throughout the legal fight she said he’d refused to remove her name and threatened to try to embarrass her if she didn’t cooperate by telling the media she had Alzheimer’s disease- a claim she said was a bold faced lie.

For Shanga Hankerson, it’s like the old school saying, ‘when it rains, it pours’…or maybe some would look at the situation between he and his mom and simply call it karma. Whatever the case is, one thing is certain, it would be a shame (for the Atlanta community) to see the restaurant closed for good because the food is off the chain!
