A Chicago city spokesperson had this to say as of Thursday:

“Mr. Smollett has refused to reimburse the City of Chicago for the cost of police overtime spent investigating his false police report on January 29, 2019. The Law Department is now drafting a civil complaint that will be filed in the Circuit Court of Cook County. Once it is filed, the Law Department will send a courtesy copy of the complaint to Mr. Smollett’s L.A. based legal team.”

What’s even worse for Jussie is that by law, Chicago can now demand three times the amount of it’s original payback request, which could raise his bill from $130K to $390,000.00.

Why Smollett May End Up Having To Do What He Previously Avoided

Although Cook County State Attorney, Kim Foxx’s, office mysteriously dropped Jussie’s 16-count felony charge -even though she alluded that Jussie staged the attack- as y’all know, he walked away scot-free pretty much. In doing so, Jussie avoided having to publicly admit that he reportedly faked the attacked, and subsequently maintained his ‘innocence’ afterwards.

Now, with Chicago’s new lawsuit, he faces the risks of having to still stand on trial before an administrative law judge, which could also expose his alleged lie- the very thing he’s been fighting hard to deny.

Like I said, Jussie is between a rock and a hard place, because had he repaid the city, he still would have been indirectly ‘admitting’ to staging the racist, homophobic attack. So either way, it seems he’ll have to face the music.
