Shaq Has A Comedian In The Fam!’

Comedian, Bill Bellamy, and Shaquille O’Neal are cousins!

Most of you probably remember when Bill first stepped onto the scene in 1992 and set the comedy world off, by popularizing the phrase, “booty call,” on “Def Comedy Jams.” That was hilarious! We also can’t forget about his roles in “Def Jam’s How To Be A Player,” “Love Jones,” and other roles throughout the late ’90s.

During an interview on “The Jennifer Hudson Show” (see video below), Bill joked about fans always being amazed that Shaq is his cousin, as he, himself, is an average Joe:

“There’s a thing why, people be tripping like he just my cousin,” Bellamy said to Jennifer. “Like I’m his cousin too! Right? Like, don’t it go both ways?”

J. Hud laughed and jokingly said, “Right! He ain’t just my cousin.”

“People should be saying, ‘Yo Shaq, I can’t believe you Bill cousin,’” Bill hilariously continued. “But the funny part, people forget that. I don’t know why people forget that like we’ve been family forever, like our whole lives. “You don’t stop being cousins.”

Although Shaq and Bill Bellamy seem very different — Bill was always known as the ‘sex-symbol dude’ of comedy, while Shaq was known as the superstar NBA legend — they do have a few things in common. Obviously, the tall-gene runs in their fam,’ Bill is 6’4″ and Shaq is 7’1″; and they both have a natural sense of humor, which is something Bill confirmed in that same interview:

“[Shaq] is so cool, like, we’ve done so many great things together. And I’m just very proud of what he’s done after basketball like he is just – incredible, man,” said Bellamy. “He’s super funny. Like, he’s super funny. Like people don’t realize it because you can’t really understand him when he talk.”

Shaq and Bill are 7 years apart- Bill is 59 and Shaq is 52- and they apparently have a cool relationship. They even appeared in a 1998 Reebok commercial together, although damn near nobody knew they were actually cousins at that time.

Comedian-actor, Bill Bellamy, is going through extremely trying times. He’s just revealed that his sister’s “unauthorized” actions have put him in an impossible position, regarding the funerals of his father and his father-in-law.

Bill’s father-in-law of 21 years died on May 17, 2022; and weeks later on June 8, 2022, Bill’s own father passed away as well. Since then, his family has understandably been in an extreme state of grief and unfortunately, turmoil, according to Bellamy.

It’s now been reported that while Bill was out of the country, he says his sister, Karen, made what he refers to as “unauthorized” plans to bury their father today, June 24th, which is same weekend that Bill and his longtime wife, Kristen Bellamy, already had planned his father-in-law’s funeral service in a different state.

After learning about his sister’s plan, Bill tried to immediately put a stop to it, by seeking a restraining order in a New Jersey court, reports TMZ. The restraining order would have left Karen with no choice but to reschedule the date she set for their father’s funeral. Unfortunately for Bill, the judge had to deny his request because legally, there isn’t anything the judge can do to interject that type of family dispute.

Feeling clearly emotionally drained, betrayed, and hurt by this heartbreaking situation he and his family are in, Bill confessed the following to TMZ:

“In the span of less than a month I lost both my father William Bellamy Senior and my father-in-law Bernard Baker Junior. These two wonderful men that have impacted my life and my family’s lives in ways that are beyond words…”

He continued:

“My effort to stop an unauthorized memorial service for my father, which was planned without my knowledge, was not successful. I am devastated my family has to choose to miss one service for another, no one should ever have to be in this position. My father-in-law’s memorial service was confirmed back in May when he passed.

There are no words to express how disappointed I am to not be a part of laying my father to rest but I look forward to celebrating my father’s life and legacy with my wife, his grandchildren and our close friends in our own time.

Please pray for our families and give us the time to grieve and process these painful losses in private.”

This is beyond devastating for all involved. There seems to be some deep-ridden underlying issues between Bill and his sister, issues that day back much father than today. Keeping Bill Bellamy and his family in our hearts and prayers.

Comedian and actor, Bill Bellamy, took to Instagram to mourn the loss of his mother, Edna Bellamy, who passed away on Saturday (June 24). In a lengthy heartfelt message on his Instagram page, he shared  about what a wonderful woman his mother was and how her death is such a heartbreaking as well as painful loss.

The former MTV Jams host made a name for himself as a swinging single in films like How to be a Player and Love Jones. Through his stand-up comedy, Bellamy often shared hilarious stories of his childhood. In his comedy special, Back To My Roots, Bellamy shared a childhood story where his mother gave him and his sister “the talk” before entering the home of a stranger. This story resonated with many people particularly if you grew up with an African-American mother.

First of all, my mama had what we call mama talk. Now before we go to visit somebody, me and my sister, soon as we get out to the car, my mama would have a little meeting with us. She pull up, close the door (makes sound of door closing). ‘Come here. You and your sister get over here right now. Now we going inside to visit these people, but we not gonna be here that long ’cause Mama don’t like these people. Now when we get inside, we gonna act like we got some sense, you understand? And I see you and your sister doing some (censored) you know you ain’t supposed to do, what’s gonna happen, kids?’ `Everything.’ `You d*mn right, everything is gonna happen. Now I want you-all to listen me ’cause I’m only gonna say this one time: Ain’t nobody hungry.’

William “Bill” Bellamy is from Newark, New Jersey. In stand up, Bellamy has often shared childhood stories about the adventures of him and his sister Karen. However, when Bellamy was featured on Unsung Hollywood, fans learned that he had a brother that passed away. On that episode, his parents, William and Edna, were featured. His mother shared how she met Bill’s father, William, in Florida at the young age of 16. Married in 1964, they moved to Newark for a better opportunity in life. Bill was born in 1965.  Ms. Bellamy shared that she dropped out of school in the tenth grade, however, she motivated her children to be successful.

Before his mother’s death, Bill shared a photo of his parents on Instagram where he shared the importance of visiting your parents while they’re still here. In addition, Bill was able to spend Mother’s Day with his mother where he shared how his mother made him work hard and how she was a brilliant person. In addition to paying homage to his mother, Bill also praised his wife Kristen. The couple recently celebrated their 16th wedding anniversary and they have 2 children together: Bailey Ivory-Rose and Baron.

Given the success of Bill Bellamy, it’s clear that his mother’s tough love approach paid off. Rest in peace, Ms. Edna, you raised a great son.

Good friends/actors, Larenz Tate and Bill Bellamy, were all smiles this weekend as the cast and crew of the cult classic romantic film, Love Jones, reunited to celebrate its release 20 years ago. Hol’ up…can y’all believe it’s been 20 years already? Every last one of the cast members look like they haven’t aged one bit. The anniversary party turned into a double date night for Tate and Bellamy, who brought along their spouses and family for the epic celebration.

Sometimes it takes time for a movie to get the respect it deserves and it seems that Love Jones is finally getting acknowledged. It was amazing night at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater filled with excitement and memories as the crowd drifted back in time to 1997 when Love Jones was first released. The classic love story stands out because there are just not many films that feature African-American characters falling in love. Many films today feature African-Americans that are slaves, impoverished, involved in drugs, or killed in the first scene. Movies like Love Jones are a dying breed.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Love Jones, The Academy showed a special screening of the event followed by a conversation. All the original cast and crew were there for the epic night! Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs explained why they decided to acknowledge the Theodore Witcher film.

We look back and realize this stereotype-breaking, genre-redefining cult classic delivered a powerful message—without a lecture

Not only was the night a great night because of the stars that were in the house, but it was refreshing to see Larenz Tate and his wife Tomasina Parrott and Bill and Kristen Bellamy. Fans of the movie, Love Jones, remember the tension between their on screen characters, but in real life, Bellamy and Tate are like brothers.
