Anywho…in a 2019 interview with People Magazine — to promote his then-new memoir, “Let Love Have The last Word” — Common yet again gave the world a very honest view into his love for his ex-girlfriend, Badu.

In the past, Common’s made it no secret that Erykah was “my first love and my first heartbreak.” Almost two decades later, he’s still being asked about the neo-soul pioneer that broke his heart in his late 20s.

This go ’round, Common revealed that after Erykah Badu ‘broke up with him over the phone’ (as he once stated in a prior interview), he was so depressed, that he couldn’t even muster up the will to eat…dayumn! Peep what else the MC had to say about his first love, Badu, and their past two-year (2000 – 2002) relationship:

“Some of the hardest work I’ve done on myself has been after breakups,” Common told People. “With Erykah Badu, that was my first love where you’re just open and floating. When we split, I was 27 or 28. I was in a haze, just going through the motions. It was hard to eat. It wasn’t her fault, the relationship just didn’t go forward.”

Common said his next public relationship — presumably with Serena Williams — was equally as heartbreaking and finally pushed him into therapy:

“I was in another breakup after that that was heavy,” he says without specifying which relationship. “That one honestly is what sent me to therapy.”

FYI- Serena and Common were a thing from 2008 to 2010. They seemed hella happy together at that time, but it just wasn’t meant to be.

Common’s next public relationship was with political analyst, Angela Rye, but that didn’t last long, and they called it quits in 2018.

After the aforementioned relationships, Common confessed in 2019 that he was lookin’ for love again and says the therapy sessions had prepped him to finally be the man he wanted to be to the next love of his life at that time:

“Talking about my intimacy avoidance and love addiction was an “aha” moment for me,” he says of traits he’s learned about himself in therapy. “The more you talk, the more you see the patterns you created for yourself. … I’m open to a relationship now. I know how to communicate like an adult now. I want to be the best partner I can be.”

As we all know now, Common is happily in love with his current lady, comedian/actress Tiffany Haddish. Looking forward to see what the future holds for those two lovebirds.

50 Cent in all his Instagram ruthlessness set his eye on Common this past Sunday. These days 50 is known for trolling and dragging people– he kind of operates his page as a comedy page except it’s at the expense of others.

On Sunday after getting wind of Common still talking about his past relationship with Erykah Badu, 50 could not fathom why he would be bringing her up and the relationship ended so long ago. But not only did 50 shade Common he threw his ex- Vivica A. Fox in the mix.

In a reposted photo 50 captioned.

“I be telling b*tches do not give me no Erykah Badu booty,” he wrote overtop the caption over Common’s face which read, “The Male Vivica Fox.”

“Just a little bit, don’t give me the whole thing ? OK. LOL”… the caption concluded.

50 and the Vivica have verbally sparred numerous times since their own short-lived relationship and breakup in 2004, largely because of similar disclosures from Fox to the media. Hence the comparison.

In a new interview, Common came clean on dealing with the aftermath of splitting from Badu and the immediate impact it had on his life.

“Some of the hardest work I’ve done on myself has been after breakups,” says the star. Essence reports on Thursday’s episode of The Breakfast Club Common, who’s promoting his new memoir Let Love Have The Last Word, opened up about how much he enjoys being in relationships as opposed to engaging in a string of one night stands. However, he also admitted that his affections usually have a ‘sell by’ date because he could never make it past a certain point in the relationship.

“The pattern I found myself in—and my therapist broke it down—was the feeling of being in love and that honeymoon period. I was addicted to that feeling,” he told the show’s co-hosts.

“When that feeling would go away and the real part of the relationships came, I was like, ‘OK. Do I want this or not?’ I wasn’t ready to do the work,” he said.

Common clarified that he’s not a sex addict and that in each of his relationships, including two very high profile relationships with Erykah Badu and Serena Williams, he’s always cared for the woman he was seeing. However, h also went on to reveal “when things got tough and it was time to work through stuff, I wasn’t willing to work through it,”

Another name that needs to be a permanent part of that list is Common, who is well respected in both the Hip Hop and movie realms of entertainment. It could be because of his approachable style and constant push to move our culture forward. It may also be due to his transparency, as he is exhibiting now in a new memoir where he opens about being molested as a little kid.

Common has recently completed a memoir titled ‘Let Love Have The Last Word’ where he talks about family and relationships, specifically the relationship between himself and his daughter. In a recent interview on The View Common describes the book a bit, including relationship advice he received from former First Lady Michelle Obama.

TMZ also reveals Common admitted to being molested by a family friend when he was just ten years old in Chicago. While leaving NBC Studios they caught up to him to ask him about the book and why he decided to reveal his truth.

Common tells us he’s being open about his experience because he hopes it will encourage others to feel safe talking about it too … and it will aid in the healing process.

In his book, the Oscar-winner shares how a repressed memory of being molested by a family friend — whom he refers to as Brandon — surfaced a couple years ago while acting out a scene with Laura Dern in the 2018 film, “The Tale.”

Common is known as the socially conscious, laid back MC/actor, but his life started off everything BUT ‘laid back.’ In fact, he and his Mother were kidnapped at gunpoint by his father when Common was a toddler and the incident it didn’t end well for his Pops.

Common’s mother, Dr. Mary Ann Hines, is an educator and his late father, Lonnie Lynn Sr. was once a pro-basketball player with the ABA (American Basketball Association) League. Unfortunately, his Dad fell into drug addiction and depression, due to his struggling career at that time.

In his memoir, “One Day It’ll All Make Sense,” Common broke down exactly what happened on the day his Dad kidnapped them and how they escaped.

Common says his parents gave him two different sides of this story:

When I was eighteen months old, my mother and I were kidnapped at gunpoint. My father held the gun.

At least that’s one side of the story. I first heard about it all from my aunt…when I was already a grown man. I asked my mother, and she told it to me one way. I asked my father, and he told it to me another…

Brandy Norwood is back like she never left and we couldn’t be MORE happier for her! Earlier this month (June 2017) she had a crazy health scare when she was found unconscious on a Delta Airlines flight and had to be rushed to the hospital. Her camp then released a statement informing her fans that she was simply ‘exhausted.’ Some fans felt there was more to her story that wasn’t being revealed and they may or may not have a point. But nevertheless, it’s Brandy’s personal business, so if there is more, she sure doesn’t owe us an explanation.

Fast forward to today though and Brandy is performing with ease. Last night at her show, rapper, Common stepped on stage to give her a cool serenade. He spit some bars while she sat on a stool happy as a kid in a candy store over it. In the middle of his performance he gave her an affectionate hug and kiss on the cheek.

Pretty sure Brandy’s man/rapper, Sir the Baptist, was somewhere watching though, LOL. Y’all know Common has a way with the ladies…he’s like that cool ‘male friend’ that seems to eventually find away to slide into next level ‘boo status.’ Next thing you know, he’s dating the celeb’ who was just his homegirl about a week ago…I joke I joke I kid I kid!
