A while back, we reported that Damon Wayans Jr., son of the legendary comedic actor, Damon Sr., has children with a former reality TV star. That news came as a surprise. What also made folks go, ‘Saywhat?!!,’ was that Damon Jr.’s baby mama is the same young lady who had a baby with NBA star, Dwyane Wade – during his supposed “break” from his now actress wife, Gabrielle Union.

Well, fast forward to today and Damon Jr. is now fighting to gain custody of his two teen daughters and he’s making some serious claims about what his ex is doing to both his children, as well as Wade’s son.

Damon Jr. and former Basketball Wives reality TV star, Aja Metoyer, have 13 and 15-year-old daughters. The former lovebirds were high school sweethearts and apparently had a lengthy relationship, until things went sour. By 2013, Aja had a son with Dwyane Wade, who’s now 4 years old. According to court docs, she’s collecting child support for all three of her children. However, Damon is now claiming that she’s not doing right by them, nor her kids in return.

According to The Blast, Damon Jr. is accusing Aja of everything under the sun – including child neglect, being a selfish mother and a unfit parent, who reportedly spend up her kids child support checks on things other than her children. As a result, he is requesting primary physical custody of his daughters. Prior to now, the two shared joint custody and Aja had primary physical custody of their girls:

Via The Blast: “Happy Together” star Damon Wayans Jr. has put his reality star baby mama on notice that he wants to change up their custody arrangement and get full custody of his kids because she’s allegedly not taking their daughter’s education seriously, and he’s also questioning how she’s spending child support money from him and NBA star Dwyane Wade.

According to a declaration by Wayans, he now wants primary custody of the girls during the week, claiming they are “suffering scholastically” because of their mother’s “inability to prioritize their education.” The actor claims the children are “habitually absent” or tardy to class, and lists a host of other issues he says is negatively affecting his children’s education and home life.

Wayans argues that with having primary custody, it is Metoyer’s responsibility to get the children to school on time and make sure they complete their homework.

In addition to the above claims by Damon Jr., he also states in court docs that Aja “puts her own needs before those” of her children. The Blast reported that one such example he listed, is when she reportedly took one of their daughters on a cruise for vacation when the girls was actually scheduled to be in summer school, so that she wouldn’t flunk out of class.

But wait…there’s more…

He also claims that Metoyer retaliates against him when the two have personal disputes by denying him access to the girls.

The actor brings up the situation with D-Wade in his documents alleging Metoyer is irresponsibly spending child support money: “I do not know how [Metoyer] spends the child support money she receives from me or the father of [Metoyer’s] other child, a 4-year-old whose father is basketball star Dwayne [sic] Wade.”

He claims that his daughters are routinely left alone to care for 4-year-old Xavier, and says the instability is causing a major problem for all the children.

Damon Wayans Jr. and Aja Meteoyor are due in court for a custody mediation on October 31, the morning of Halloween. But, pretty sure ghosts n goblins won’t be the scary thing she’s spooked about that day though.

Whenever you hear the name Wayans, you probably associate the name with lots of talent and laughter. So it comes as no surprise that Damon Wayans Jr. is an apple that didn’t fall far from the family tree. Damon Jr. is a talented actor, scriptwriter, and stand-up comedian, just like his pops, Damon Sr. In fact, he’s made quite a name for himself over the years and he’s now a celebrity in his own right. Now, the 35-year-old actor has children of his own, but most fans probably don’t know he and Miami Heat star, Dwyane Wade, have a child by the same woman.

Dwyane’s Love Child:

Remember when Dwyane Wade had a love child with another woman during the time he and Gabrielle Union were “taking a break?” Well, Damon also has kids with that woman and her name is Aja Metoyer. When details surfaced about Wade’s love child, of course, the reports sparked a media firestorm. At the time, Damon was asked about the situation, and he revealed that although he and Aja were high school sweethearts with lots of history, they lead totally different lives now. The famed actor made it clear that his daughters are his priority when it comes to Aja, according to Madame Noir. “I really have nothing to do with Aja’s situation. We both live completely separate lives, aside from co-parenting. My concern is my daughters and that they don’t get hurt in any of this.”

He went on to confirm that his daughters “love their little brother [Xavier Wade] and that’s all I care about.” But, of course, Damon knows about the dark side of fame which is why he didn’t want his daughters being dragged into all the drama.

A Break Baby?:

Although the drama has subsided, there are still whispers about whether or not Dwyane and Aja’s son, Xavier, is a “break baby.” Shortly after details surfaced about Aja’s pregnancy, she was immediately labeled as a “side chick,” a “homewrecker,” and any other undesirable name you can think of despite Dwyane’s claims about taking a break from his relationship with Gabrielle Union. Even though Dwyane adamantly insists he didn’t cheat on Gabrielle, Aja was still dragged. During a recent interview with OK! magazine, she finally decided to clear the air and set the record straight about her relationship with the NBA baller. Aja claims it’s all very simple: numbers don’t lie.

“I think that a little bit of mathematics needs to be done. I’ve known the person ten years,” Aja explained. “My son is not a break baby. He’s almost four. Do the math,” she continued. “I’ve never been a mistress, side chick, any of those things,” she insisted. “I’m not a homewrecker… I wish I was a little Jezebel, you know? It might have worked out for me better that way,” she joked. But on a serious note, Aja revealed she knows how it feels to be cheated on so she wouldn’t have done that to another woman. “I’ve been cheated on, do you think I’m going to be an accomplice,” she asked. “Someone cheated with my man, why would I put that pain on someone else?”

Comedic actor, Damon Wayans Sr.’s, 34 year old son, Damon Jr., has just pissed off many of his Caucasian fans.

FYI: We all know In Living Color veteran, Damon Sr. But for any of us, Old Schoolers, who aren’t too familiar with his son, Damon Jr., he’s a known comedian/actor who currently stars on the hit Fox sitcom, New Girl.

The Tweet That Sparked The Racial Blowup

Now, here’s why Damon Jr. was going at it with his White fans on Twitter- many of whom are fans of the show, New Girl. It all started with his 4th of July (2017) Twitter post, which read:

As soon as his post went up, the you-know-what hit the fan and many of his White fans were heated. Many of the commenters slammed him by implying that he should be grateful his African ancestors were stolen from their country and brought to the U.S. as slaves, because he now has a better life. Other commenters slammed him for ‘disrespecting’ his country and ‘race baiting,’ while others went at it with his Black fans in his Twitter comments:

Damon Jr. responded back to a few of the commenters without ever backing down from his post, nor his point of view about the 4th of July:

The Harsh Reality Though

In school, most of us learned that Independence Day is about celebrating the day U.S. Congress signed into effect the Declaration of Independence. On July 4, 1776, the then 13 U.S. colonies became independent from British rule. But many of us -White, Black, etc.- were not taught about the down side of it’s history because those parts were cleverly omitted from our school curriculum. President Thomas Jefferson was the author of The Declaration of Independence, which partly read:

‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.’

The only problem with the ‘Declaration’ is that the “all men are created equal” line intentionally excluded all Black people in the United States. How so? Because at that time, Black people in the U.S. -who were predominately slaves then- were only considered, by law, to be three-fourths of a human being. In addition to that ignorance, the dude who actually wrote the declaration, Jefferson, owned hundreds of slaves and several plantations at that time. So the only ‘independence’ the 4th of July technically celebrates, is the independence of all human beings in the U.S. except Black people.

Now, don’t feel bad if you lit up fireworks and danced to Frankie Beverly & Maze at your family’s cookout on the 4th, it’s all good. For many of us, the 4th of July is simply a celebration that represents a day off from the job…so there’s no harm, no foul there.

But for those who are pissed off with Damon Wayans Jr., hopefully they’ll eventually be able to gain a broader historical understanding of why, as a Black man in America, Damon Jr. feels the way that he feels about his ‘independence’ on the 4th of July. Better dialogue among each other and across racial lines, creates better understanding. Take us out Marvin Gaye…
