Ever since Prince’s passing in 2016, several of acts of his kindness toward many people he privately helped — including Trayvon Martin’s family— have been revealed. But this time it’s Dave Chappelle, Prince’s good friend, who’s sharing what Prince did for his sister, Felicia. Dave was just a kid when Prince’s kind act damn near brought him to tears.

Chappelle Details How Prince’s Act Of Kindness Affected His Sister:

In a prior interview with Gayle King, Dave recalled how Prince gave his sister something he, himself, still cherishes to this day. It was something that made his sis’ feel really special and also really visible as a young lady who, at that time, apparently felt as if she was unfortunately invisible among her peers because of her weight:

“My sister went to see Prince. I was probably 11 years old. And she was the first one who ever brought a Prince record into our home,” Chappelle told Gayle King. “So, I wake up in the morning, and the first thing I do is knock on the door and ask her how the show was… She was asleep, with her fist balled up. And when she woke up, she opened her hand, and his guitar pick was in her hand. The guitar pick said ‘Love God.’

“And she had been in the front row and said, ‘I love you, I love you!’ And he very pointedly was like, ‘I love you, too.’ And my sister was a bigger girl, she was chubby. And this meant the world to her, that he would pay that kind of attention. And I think about that when I engage people. That these moments are just moments, but they mean so much.”

Wow, even in death, Prince is still giving. Through stories like these, he’s continuing to spread the message that we all can put to use- even the smallest act of kindness can be the greatest gratification to the person on the receiving end.

How Prince Got Payback At Dave For “Chappelle Show” Skit

Now, of course we can’t talk about Dave Chappelle and Prince, without talking about that classic 2003 Chapelle Show skit. Remember when the late Charlie Murphy told the true story about the time he – along with his brother, Eddie Murphy; and their crew – played a game of basketball against Prince and his crew? Well, Prince got payback.

Chappelle and Prince actually became good friends afterwards, but Prince got him back ten years later. In 2013 Prince released his single, “Breakfast Can Wait,” on Youtube and had everybody crackin’ up when he displayed the song’s artwork. It featured a pic of Dave Chappelle dressed up as Prince from the Chappelle Show skit.

Dave talked about Prince’s payback on The Jimmy Fallon Show that same year (he discusses this at the 3:07 mark in the video below):

Chappelle to Fallon: “That’s a Prince judo move right there. … You make fun of Prince in a sketch and he’ll just use you in his album cover,” the comedian quipped. “What am I going to do — sue him for using a picture of me dressed up like him? … That’s checkmate right there.”

We’ve seen her put the likes Oprah Winfrey, Tyler Perry and Empire director, Lee Daniels, on full blast for an alleged collaborative effort to blackball her following her refusal to promote the Lee Daniels directed film, Precious, for free.

This time, Mo’Nique is taking on the internet giant, Netflix, and exposing what she says are their biased treatments against people of color and women, when it comes to cutting checks to actors. In a Instagram video message to her followers, Mo’Nique called out Netflix with a short, straight to the point message that exposed a recent conversation she had with them. She pointed out the differences they told her about Caucasian comedian, Amy Schumer, verses Dave Chappelle, herself, and Chris Rock. Check out what she said below:

Mo’Nique: I’m asking that you stand with me in boycotting Netflix for gender bias and color bias. I was offered a $500,000 deal last week to do a comedy special. However, Amy Schumer was offered $11 Million, Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle- $20 million. Then Amy Schumer went back and renegotiated 2 more million dollars, because she said “I shouldn’t get what the men are getting, they’re legends, however I should get more,” and Netflix agreed.

When we asked Netflix to explain the difference, ‘Why the money was SO different,’ they said “Well we believe that’s what Mo’Nique would bring.’ We said ‘Well, what about my resume?’ They said “We don’t go off of resumes.” Then we asked them ‘What was it about Amy Schumer?’ And they said “Well, she sold out Madison Square Garden twice and she had a big movie over the summer.” Is that not Amy Schumer’s resume? And then Netflix said, “By the way, we believe Mo’Nique is a legend too.”

MoNi’que then asked the most obvious question after Netflix’s reported “legend” reference and that was:

‘Why shouldn’t I get what the legends are getting?’

She ended her video with this request of all of us:

“Please stand with me in this boycott of Netflix, I love us for real.”

Listen ILOSM fam,’ we’ve all heard all too often abut Black actors/actresses and women not being paid even a fraction of what their White male colleagues earn for the same work. And by the way, Mo’Nique is funny as hell in stand up, so they’re really missing out. So it’s a beautiful thing to see Mo’Nique spill all of the beans about what she was propositioned by Netflix, instead of being afraid and simply allowing the industry to trample on her self worth…allegedly. FYI: Y’all know I had to add the word “allegedly” just to keep this thing politically correct, but quite frankly, in this case I believe Mo’Nique.

Hell, even her arch nemesis, Oprah, probably believes her, because Oprah eve admitted that she had to stand up for equality of her female employees at one point in the industry, for her Oprah Winfrey Show:

Via People: “I built this show around myself and the producers. We were young women in our 30s trying to figure it out and find our own way,” Winfrey said. “I was making a lot of money, and my producers were still getting the same salary. I went to my boss at the time and I said, ‘Everybody needs a raise.’ And he said, ‘Why?’ ” “He actually said to me, ‘They’re only girls. They’re a bunch of girls. What do they need more money for?’ I go, ‘Well, either they’re gonna get raises, or I’m gonna sit down. I will not work unless they get paid.’ And so they did.”

Chappelle’s Controversal Jokes About Cosby

It is also the topic of one of his Netflix specials, The Age of Spin, that got him much attention and heat (depending on which side you’re on), when he cracked a joke about Bill Cosby’s current sexual allegations. In his standup, he referred to Cosby as being a comedic legend who has done a lot for the African American community, but that the many sexual allegations against him have put his fans in a conflicting position as a result. Chappelle said this of Cosby: “He rapes, but he saves. And he saves more than he rapes.” Chappelle’s point was that Cosby is a hero to millions and that his legacy has helped inspire and/or save a lot of people both directly and indirectly. But Chappelle also meant that the current sexual allegation claims against Cosby makes him seem like a “rapist.”

In his Netflix standup, Chappelle also admitted that although he now leans a little toward Cosby being guilty of at least having done something, he was initially in complete denial for a long while about the allegations. Chappelle then went on to crack a joke that after “34 allegations,” against Cosby, he was still like “man, [he] probably only raped like 10 or 11 of those people.”

Chappelle Gets Questioned About His Views On Cosby

During his recent interview with ‘The Breakfkast Club,’ the hosts asked Chappelle about his controversial Cosby joke and he comically and carefully gave an interesting response (see it at the  9:36 mark of the video interview below):

“It’s tough to talk about jokes, because I don’t want to open the door to all these weird analytics and sh*t, like ‘What does he actually mean by that?'” said Chappelle. “That’s a slippery slope. But, you know, I think I laid it out pretty clearly, like, the dilemma of watching Bill Cosby going through this. Not to take anything away from the 54 alleged [victims].”

‘TBC’ co-host, Charlemagne, then asked Chappelle if he had an “answer” as to whether or not Cosby’s work should stand on it’s own, separately from the current allegations. Dave’s answer was:

“No,” [he didn’t have an answer to that]. “It’s the kind of question that makes more questions, you know what I mean? It’s a tough one, man. What he’s accused of is very serious. I don’t take that lightly. However, I don’t know, it was [the] ’70s. Crazy sh*t was going on. I don’t know what to say. America’s dad is now America’s rapist. According to the New York Post. It’s a tough one.”

“My sister went to see Prince. I was probably 11 years old. And she was the first one who ever brought a Prince record into our home,” Chappelle told Gayle King. “So, I wake up in the morning, and the first thing I do is knock on the door and ask her how the show was… She was asleep, with her fist balled up. And when she woke up, she opened her hand, and his guitar pick was in her hand. The guitar pick said ‘Love God.’

“And she had been in the front row and said, ‘I love you, I love you!’ And he very pointedly was like, ‘I love you, too.’ And my sister was a bigger girl, she was chubby. And this meant the world to her, that he would pay that kind of attention. And I think about that when I engage people. That these moments are just moments, but they mean so much.”

Wow, even in death, Prince is still giving. Through stories like these, he’s continuing to spread the message that we all can put to use- even the smallest act of kindness can be the greatest gratification to the person on the receiving end.

How Prince Got Payback At Dave For “Chappelle Show” Skit

Now, of course we can’t talk about Dave Chappelle and Prince without talking about that classic 2003 Chapelle Show skit. Y’all remember when Charlie Murphy told the true story about the time he, along with his brother, Eddie Murphy; and their crew played a game of basketball against Prince and his crew? Well Prince got payback.

Chappelle and Prince actually became good friends afterwards, but Prince got him back ten years later. In 2013 Prince released his single, “Breakfast Can Wait,” on Youtube and had everybody crackin’ up when he displayed the song’s artwork. It featured a pic of Dave Chappelle dressed up as Prince from the Chappelle Show skit.

Dave talked about Prince’s payback on The Jimmy Fallon Show that same year (he discusses this at the 3:07 mark in the video below):

Chappelle to Fallon: “That’s a Prince judo move right there. … You make fun of Prince in a sketch and he’ll just use you in his album cover,” the comedian quipped. “What am I going to do — sue him for using a picture of me dressed up like him? … That’s checkmate right there.”

Gotta love Prince! Not only was he one of the baddest entertainers of all time, but the brotha also had an incredible big heart and great sense of humor to match. Continue to rest easy Prince.

Obviously, Dave’s still got it. It was questionable if Chappelle would be able to jump back into the comedy scene.

However, given his super successful Saturday Night Live debut, it’s official. And, you better bet Netflix isn’t missing out on this opportunity.

It’s Needed!

So, according to Page Six, Dave Chappelle has agreed to do three Netflix specials for the streaming giant. The source doesn’t specify whether they’re stand-ups or sketch-comedies.

According to the source, two of the Netflix specials will be from Dave Chappelle’s personal archive — obviously, something the public has never seen.

If you remember from his Chappelle Show, when he’d talk just before the skit, he said a few times that some of the stuff he developed wasn’t “approved” for the show.

So, who knows what’s in store for the audiences, right?

Supposedly, all three are going to be simultaneously released in 2017. That’s awesome news.

Nevertheless, the announcement came on Monday, when a source told Page Six Dave struck the deal — to the tune of $60 MILLION!

That’s $20 MILLION PER SPECIAL, for those who want to do the math. The insider mentions as follows.

“Dave was offered $20 million a special. Netflix basically has a war chest for this kind of content. Whether it’s a loss or not, Dave Chappelle’s specials will get a lot of press and bring in new subscribers.”

The source says, back in 2005, Chappelle walked away from his deal with Comedy Central — the one where he was supposed to do a third and fourth season of The Chappelle Show.

They offered him $50 million for both seasons. However, Dave left during mid-third season. So, instead of $50 million, he only ended up with $10 million.

However…come on. It’s $10 million. That’s still lifetime-money.

Netflix Is Grabbing’m Up

Nonetheless, the streaming company has said it’s not going to officially comment on the “financial terms” of its deals.

Yet, it seems that Chappelle isn’t the only one Netflix is head-hunting.

The source also notes that the company has struck a deal with Chris Rock for $40 million. It notes Rock will complete two stand-up specials.
