After El served 2 years in prison on drug related charges, he came back out in 2010 like a new man — clean, sober, with a new album, and a voice that was just as flawless as it was back in the day. 50 CENT & BABYFACE RESCUED EL DEBARGE FROM DRUG RELAPSE

El DeBarge spoke to V103, in Atlanta, a while back and revealed the time he almost relapsed in 2012, but was literally saved by rapper/actor, 50 Cent; and R&B legend, Babyface. El devised his own intervention, and here’s what he said 50 and Babyface did next:

“I had my own intervention, I felt like I was about to go and pick up some drugs again. I could almost feel the taste in my mouth. When I was busy, when I was on the road doing things, I just didn’t have that taste…didn’t have that sensation. Once you sit down and you get some time with yourself, then you know who you REALLY are.

So I called 50 Cent up and I called Babyface up and I said ‘You guys gotta help me man.’ And 50 came to my rescue, he took me over to Babyface, who met me over at Interscope and they sent me to a place called the Harbor House in Jackson, MS. They said get out of L.A. I was there for 6 weeks. […] That’s another reason why you didn’t hear from me, I was in a treatment center.”

El deserves a round of applause for recognizing his triggers and having enough will to seek help.

UNFORTUNATELY EL DEBARGE WAS ALSO ARRESTED IN 2012, HERE’S WHY…

El’s call for help from 50 Cent and Babyface probably came after he was arrested in L.A. in 2012.

Undercover police officers saw El talking to a man on the street and thought a suspicious sale was going down.They searched El, but didn’t find anything on him, but they did find a small bag of crack cocaine underneath a nearby car. The dude El was talking to, claimed that he was buying the crack from El, so police booked El and he bailed out of jail the same night for $30,000. The charges were eventually dropped because there was not “enough sufficient evidence.”

Wow…so glad to see that El DeBarge has made it through. Wishing the brotha much continued success with his sobriety.

Unfortunately, I Love Old School Music family…R&B legend, El DeBarge, was arrested the other day…and he’s now facing several charges. And he’d been doing so well — staying outta legal trouble — for quite some time…but apparently, the “All This Love” crooner had all his rights read to him in the wee hours of Sunday morning, as cops read him his Miranda rights after a run-in at a local gas station. Details below…

What Had Happened Was…

It all went down at 3:40 a.m. Sunday (January 7, 2023), while El was at a gas station in Burbank, CA, and was caught ridin’ dirty…at least according to the police report. Initially, El’s gas station stop was uneventful, but as he was about to be on his merry way, cops reportedly stopped him, due to expired tags on the vehicle he was driving…and that’s when a simple traffic violation turned into a day from hell for El.

Because his car was already parked at the gas station, cops say they didn’t have to pull him over. However, after noticing the expired tags, the cops say they noticed ‘an expandable metal baton in plain sight in El’s vehicle.’ Because the baton is considered an illegal weapon, cops then did a further search of El’s car, stating they also found pepper spray and ‘suspected narcotics’ inside the car as well.

Additionally, cops stated that El DeBarge’s driver’s license was also expired.

As a result, El was arrested and booked on multiple charges, which according to TMZ included ‘possession of a leaded cane or baton, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Law enforcement tells us they believe the narcotic is heroin.’

El has now posted a $25K bond and will be due back in court in March 2023.

El DeBarge’s Prior Legal Woes

We’ve previously reported that El has admittedly confessed his past struggles with addiction. And for years, he’s also had his triumphs, by successfully overcoming his issues…even making a successful comeback in the music game in recent years.

As far as we know, El’s last legal troubles were in 2018, when he was arrested for allegedly bashing in one of his brothers’ car windshield with a wrench, after an argument with his sibling(s) at his sister’s home in. Following that unfortunate sibling altercation, El took to Twitter to let out all the deets and their years-long beef, by exposing his brother(s) of being extremely “jealous” of him.

Thankfully, his latest arrest didn’t involve any sign of sibling rivalry (so hopefully they’ve mended their relationships)…but unfortunately, it does seem to hint that he may possibly have slid back into the grip of addiction. At 60 years young, El DeBarge may have a youthful look, but he’s got grown-man responsibilities. El has twelve children — yeah you read that right, TWELVE — and a few years ago, he opened up to Jet Magazine about the many struggles he’s had as he attempts to reconnect with all of them. El Discusses His 12 Children By 5 Women

In his Jet interview, El revealed that he has 12 children (11 biological and one he’s accepted as his own) by 5 different mothers (3 of whom he was married to). After overcoming a 22 year drug habit that largely kept him away from his kids, El expressed this:

“I intend to be in their lives forever. God gave me a second chance. I am so very glad with what is going on with my career, but I want to be a success in my relationship with my children”, DeBarge says.

El DeBarge Explains How He Lost 1 Of His 12 Children

El sadly recalled how he lost one of his children:

El DeBarge’s voice drops when he talks about his 3-year-old daughter. “I have one child that I lost to the system when I was on drugs”, he admits softly to JET over the phone. He chooses his words with care. You can feel his pain, the regret. He believes that the girl has been adopted. “I don’t know where she is.”

El also spoke on two other children he’d never met at that time (2010):

He would love to find his 3-year-old daughter and he reveals that he has yet to forge a solid relationship with at least two of his children. “I know where they are. But so many years have gone by. They know their dad is El DeBarge … I am trying to earn their trust again. I am calling and texting … It’s kind of hard; they got used to me not being around.” He admits, “I lost them. I am trying to reconnect with them. From that point, it is hard on me emotionally.”

El reconnected with his oldest daughter, Adris (pictured above on her wedding day), when she was in her late 20’s and he said this about having been a teenage dad:

“I was in no way ready when my daughter was born. But I want to be a good father to her.”

“It is brand new and I am enjoying it to the fullest”, she says. “What gives me so much joy and so much pride right now at this point in our lives is to just watch him and be able to see him sober and happy, so happy and whole. It really is such a gift to have him around.”

He’s been in a committed relationship with the mother of four of El DeBarge’s twelve kids for a while and they still seem to be going strong.

Meet El DeBarge’s Ex…Ralph Tresvant’s Girlfriend

Introducing Monique DeBarge. She and El DeBarge were reportedly married for years and share three children – two daughters and one son – together. Though the two are no longer together, word on the Old School curb is they’ve maintained a cool friendship for the sake of their children. Cool to see them handling their responsibilities like grown folks, moving on…

Fast forward to today and it appears that he and Monique DeBarge are still going strong. Monique sometimes shares photos of her man, championing his latest projects and big up’ing him for his birthday, much like she did for Ralph’s May 16, 2021 b-day when he turned 53 years old. She shared below pic of Ralph online, captioning her post with:

The Latest On Ralph’s Estranged Wife, Amber Tresvant

At this point it’s very clear that Ralph has long ago moved on from his ex [or estranged] wife, Amber…but it’s unclear if the two of them have officially divorced on paper. Clearly, Amber’s well aware of his union with the new love of his life, because their son, Dakari Tresvant, is cool with it, as seen in the photo up top. Not sure how Amber feels about it, but for reportedly for the first time since their split, Amber has only recently displayed her left ring finger for the camera…minus her wedding ring, as seen in the photo below.
