Two of Black Hollywood’s most revered actresses are D.C. natives, Taraji P. Henson and Regina Hall. The two talented, beautiful ladies have always come across like the kinds of sistas who can hold their own within powerful Hollywood circles; as well as at the block party, vibin’ to some ‘hood classics. During Sunday night’s BET Awards, they both proved the latter when they took to the stage during a segment, dedicated to their hometown, featuring legendary GoGo legends, EU & Sugar Bear.

Setting It Off Right

BET has always had a knack for selecting the right hosts to emcee their annual celebration of ‘All Black Everything,’ known as the BET Awards. And this year, they decided to tap the one and only Regina Hall as the hostess with the mostess. Hall is definitely one of the funniest ladies working today, and she’s been busting her behind in recent years, with roles in Girls Trip and the new update of the classic film, Shaft. But comedy is where her talent shines the most, as she showed while announcing she would be the host for this year’s ceremony:

Regina also showcased even more of her comedic skills, during a skit where she seemingly lost an award to a fellow actress.

Many have been praising Regina for a job well done as the BET Awards host. However, the real shining moment came when she and fellow D.C. homegirl, Taraji, lit the stage on fire during a Go Go themed segment that made Twitter lose it’s entire mind…

Regina Hall has been making audiences laugh for years with a career that dates back to the role of Brenda in the Scary Movie franchise from the early 2000’s. And with recent success in the widely popular film Girl’s Trip Regina continues to captivate audiences with her charm.

Even recently, on an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, Regina told an unexpectedly funny story about a time she had to rush her mother to the hospital because she got way too high off of marijuana.

It All Started With Grieving The Loss Of Her Dog

Recently, Regina  lost her dog Zeus to a battle with cancer, which saddened her so much that her mother Ruby came to console her in her time of need. According to Essence during Ruby’s visit Regina informed her that she still had some of Zeus’ medical marijuana left, which he used to ingest in the form of a honey-like gel. She told Jimmy Kimmel;

“I was sad. I couldn’t sleep. My mother came to visit because it was traumatic for me. And she had arthritis. And so I gave her a little, and I took a little.”

Regina says that after the two of them put a dab of the medical marijuana on a cracker she noticed that Ruby had taken just a little bit too much, however Ruby didn’t take too kindly to Regina’s warning.

“I knew it was too much. I said “Mommy…that’s too much” and her quote, she said “That little dab you give me barely does enough.”

Seems like Ruby didn’t understand what she was truly getting into because as the night wore on things took a hard left with an unscheduled health scare.

Actresses, Tracy Ellis Ross and Regina Hall, recently decided to have a rap session, LOL. They chose Drake and Future’s new song, “Jumpman,” and tried their best to decode what the meaning behind the lyrics were, as they took turns going back in forth rapping them.

For this rap session our girl, Tracy, went all out- she went by her ‘rap name,’ T-Murda; had someone cornrow her hair in a zig-zag design; and she rocked a customized gold grill on her bottom teeth. She and Regina also got their nails done up for the occasion with many embellishments on them.

After the song was over, it looks like Regina and Tracy walked away just as confused about the song, as they were prior to rapping it. Can’t say that we blame ’em, most of the rap on the radio nowadays needs to come with a translated version of what the hell some of these rappers are actually saying and/or talking about.

Tracy and Regina gave a true representation of what it looks like when old schoolers, who were raised in an era with REAL music, attempt to step into the new age “rap era” to try to bridge that gap. Some gaps just will never be meant to actually merge…LOL.
