With all the talk about Quincy Jones’s recent reveal that Richard Pryor slept with actor, Marlon Brando, we thought we’d dig into our crates and re-post this info we shared with y’all a few years ago, because apparently many never knew Pryor was real about his sexuality.

Yep, you read this headline correctly: Richard Pryor openly admitted to being with a transgender woman…and after you see the details within this article, you’ll probably have a better understanding about all of this. You will also have a better understanding of why Quincy Jones and Pryor’s widow have no problem telling the world about the late comedic icon’s sexual past. Check out what Richard Pryor and his son, Richard Jr. had to say…THIS IS DEFINITELY A SHOCKER…

Richard Pryor Proudly Admitted Dating A Transgender

Richard Pryor was not shy at all about revealing the time he dated a man. “Pause and rewind that back” you say? Aiight then: The legendary comedian, Richard Pryor Sr. said he tried a relationship with a transgendered man for about two weeks. He said:

“I never kept him a secret. My best friend for instance, knew I was f**king a dude, and a drop-dead gorgeous one at that. I even admitted doing something different was exciting. But after two weeks of being gay, enough was enough and I went back to life as a heterosexual.”

Jaw dropping, ain’t it?!! But wait ’til you see the extreme trauma that Richard said happened to him as a young child….

Pryor’s Childhood Sexual Trauma Revealed

Check out what Richard said happened to him as a child (via NY Daily News):

Richard talked about being molested as a boy. He recalled telling his family how a priest had kissed him on the lips, and how his dad and uncle plotted to blackmail the priest by encouraging young Richard to flirt with the reverend on the phone. Pryor’s grandma put an end to that charade. But there was an earlier incident, one where an older man named Hoss forced Richard to have oral sex with him in an alley. “I told no one,” writes Pryor. “Ever.

“Years later, when the superstar went back to Peoria to make “Jo Jo Dancer Your Life Is Calling,” the man showed up at Pryor’s movie trailer with his son. “I was seized by that old sense of fear,” Pryor writes. “The boy was about the same age I’d been when his father raped me. . . . I couldn’t believe it. After preparing a lifetime for this moment, I suddenly had nothing to say.

“Pryor adds that he shook both their hands: “I hoped the boy fared better.

The abuse hardly turned Pryor off sex. Instead, he came to know countless women. Many were hookers. One was a transvestite who looked like Josephine Baker. One night, “I discovered that she was actually a he. For some reason, I didn’t care. . . . But after two weeks of being gay . . . I went back to life as a heterosexual.”

Wait a minute…there’s more…

Richard Pryor JUNIOR a.k.a. “Ivanna Schtup” Speaks On Being A Gay Part Time Drag Queen

Richard Pryor Jr.

Meet Richard Pryor Jr., as you can see he is a splitting image of his pops, he’s an actor, singer, comedian, and yes, he says he’s gay and proud of it. There are a lot of similarities between he and his Dad. In an interview with Feast of Fun, this is what Richard Jr. had to say about the how his parents handled him confessing to them that he was gay:

Dad took it well, but Mom freaked out. She was like “Oh where did I go wrong?!!” She thought that it was her fault. I expected it to be the other way around. You always think that people don’t know, but then you tell them and they’re like “Well I already knew.”

So are you saying that your Dad already knew you were gay?
Oh God…how could he not know? One time I had picked up these two hitchhikers and my Mom caught them in the house when I wasn’t there…they were naked and when I got home my Mom called and said “Richard Jr. your Dad wants to speak to you!” Then my Dad just outright asked me, “Are you gay?” and I basically just cried & lied my way out of that one…LOL. This was before I came out, but he knew. I came out and then went back in [got married], and then came out again.

On dressing in drag as his alter ego, “Ivanna Schtup”:

To me it’s performing…anything you do as far as being in front of people…it’s performing, it’s acting. That’s the way I’ve always looked at it. it was never a thing for me like: ‘I wanna be a woman, you know. It was just the thing of me performing and just releasing a lot of things that were inside of me out as far as performance and being very theatrical.

Habits Richard Pryor JUNIOR Said He Learned Directly From His Dad

Richard Pryor with his son Richard Jr. (via Instagram)

Do you have fond childhood memories?
I grew up off and on with my dad. I was with my dad for vacations and summers and got to go on the road and tour with him, too. It was an unbelievable experience but I didn’t know that until I was older. Touring with my dad and introducing him on stage felt like the norm. Now I cherish those memories.

How old were you when your Dad landed in the hospital from his freebasing incident?
It was a week after my high school graduation. I knew it was a suicide attempt. He had so many demons.

Did you struggle with addiction, too?
Yeah, I went through all that. I crashed and burned. When I was old enough, I moved to L.A. and went club-wild. Drank anything, smoked anything, took anything. There was one time when I worked on one of my dad’s films and I was so high that my dad flew me from the set to a rehab. I nearly had a heart attack, in the hospital…I flatlined. I went through another tough period when my mother was diagnosed with cancer. I tried to kill myself with an overdose on pills.

[I just wanted] to fit in. I’ve learned that life really comes down to acceptance. A lot of my turmoil came from trying to have acceptance for my dad. A lot of my drug abuse was my own naïve way of trying to be closer to him. He was a partier so I thought if I were like him, we could be close.

We, here at ILoveOldSchoolMusic, like to study the behavioral patterns of the greats of our past, and in doing that, we’ll often find that there’s a message and ultimately, a lesson to be learned from the great ones. So with that said, let’s take a look at Richard Sr. and Junior. We often hear Iyanla Vanzant speak about the common pathology patterns between parents and children. Therefore, in this case, do you think it’s possible that, based on the traumatic experiences Richard Pryor had to endure as a child, he somehow unknowingly transferred those lessons/experiences onto Richard Jr., or no? Talk to us ILOSM family.

Quincy Jones has most definitely been having more than a few ‘come to Jesus moments,’ like the old timers used to say back in the day. In other words, he’s not only been spilling the beans about this own life, he’s telling all about everybody else’s too.

As we previously reported, Jones has already revealed that he used to date Donald Trump’s 36 year old daughter, Ivanka Trump. Now, there’s more we wanna share with y’all, but here’s the thing: it’s not that Q is out here airing out all of his celebrity friends’ (and foes) dirty laundry on some gossiping tip, it’s just that he’s always been known to be a brutally honest individual. Therefore, when doing his recent interview with Vulture (you can read the full interview here), every time he was asked about his personal life, or others, he gave his honest answers and/or opinions…all of which will make you go ‘Wait, what?!!’ “All I’ve ever done is tell the truth. … I’ve got nothing to be scared of, man,”said Jones. See the multitude of bombshells he dropped about everybody from Marvin Gaye, to Michael Jackson, Marlon Brando, P. Diddy, Richard Pryor, and so many more below…

He was the most charming motherf*cker you ever met. He’d f*ck anything. Anything! He’d f*ck a mailbox. James Baldwin. Richard Pryor. Marvin Gaye.

Vulture:He slept with them? How do you know that?

QJ: [Frowns.] Come on, man. He did not give a f*ck! You like Brazilian music?

Jones then went on to drop more bombshells on us all. Read on and prepare to be amazed…

Quincy Calls MJ A Thief & Speaks On His Plastic Surgery

When the interviewer asked Q to reveal something that most people don’t know about his late friend, Michael Jackson, Quincy’s honesty streak struck again:

QJ: I hate to get into this publicly, but Michael stole a lot of stuff. He stole a lot of songs. [Donna Summer’s] “State of Independence and “Billie Jean.”The notes don’t lie, man. He was as Machiavellian as they come. … Greedy, man. Greedy. “Don’t Stop ’Til You Get Enough” — Greg Phillinganes wrote the c section. Michael should’ve given him 10 percent of the song. Wouldn’t do it.

V: What’s misunderstood about Michael?

QJ: I used to kill him about the plastic surgery, man. He’d always justify it and say it was because of some disease he had. Bullsh*t. […] He had a problem with his looks because his father told him he was ugly and abused him. What do you expect?

V: It’s such a strange juxtaposition — how Michael’s music was so joyous, but his life just seems sadder and more odd as time goes by.

QJ: Yes, but at the end Michael’s problem was Propofol, and that problem affects everyone — doesn’t matter if you’re famous. Big Pharma making OxyContin and all that sh*t is a serious thing. I was around the White House for eight years with the Clintons, and I’d learn about how much influence Big Pharma has. It’s no joke. What’s your sign, man?

Jones Reveals He Knew Who Really Killed J.F.K.

John and Jackie Kennedy with John Connally in Automobile
President and Mrs. Kennedy,  seated in rear seats, prepared for motorcade into city from airport, Nov. 22, 1963. After a few speaking stops, the President was assassinated in the same car.

Another one of Quincy’s bombshells, was his revelation about knowing who killed Pres. John F. Kennedy. It had something to do with his good friend, Frank Sinatra. When the interviewer asked Quincy what’s something he wished he didn’t know, he replied, “Who killed Kennedy.” But there’s more:

V: Who did it?

QJ: [Chicago mobster Sam] Giancana. The connection was there between Sinatra and the Mafia and Kennedy. Joe Kennedy [Pres. Kennedy’s father]— he was a bad man — he came to Frank to have him talk to Giancana about getting votes.

Then Jones cut that part of the convo’ short and moved on:

QJ: We shouldn’t talk about this publicly. Where you from?

Shade At P. Diddy & Russell Simmons

Quincy also gave his honest views about today’s music industry. He said that artists and producers no longer pay attention to details in music and where it comes from, such as the genre of jazz, etc. He pretty took jabs at P. Diddy, Russell Simmons and others, for ‘selling out for money’ instead:

V: Do you hear the spirit of jazz in pop today?

QJ: No. People gave it up to chase money. When you go after Cîroc vodka and Phat FarmCîroc is the alcohol brand owned by Diddy. Phat Farm was the fashion label founded by hip-hop impresario Russell Simmons in 1992. Simmons sold the company in 2004. and all that sh*t, God walks out of the room. I have never in my life made music for money or fame. Not even ThrillerJones may not have worked on Thriller for money, but co-producing the album (with Jackson) presumably made him a ton of it: The 1982 album is widely reported to be the biggest-selling LP of all time, having sold somewhere north of 66 million copies. . No way. God walks out of the room when you’re thinking about money. You could spend a million dollars on a piano part and it won’t make you a million dollars back. That’s just not how it works.

Jones Calls Out Cyndi Lauper

Quincy Jones was then asked about behind-the-scenes drama among the “rockers” during the infamous “We Are The World” video shoot, which he mentioned in his memoir. Yet again, Q had no problem name dropping and called out rock star, Cyndi Lauper while at it:

QJ: It wasn’t the rockers. It was Cyndi Lauper. She had a manager come over to me and say, “The rockers don’t like the song.” I know how that sh*t works. We went to see Springsteen, Hall & Oates, Billy Joel, and all those cats and they said, “We love the song.” So I said [to Lauper], “Okay, you can just get your sh*t over with and leave.” And she was f*cking up every take because her necklace or bracelet was rattling in the microphone. It was just her that had a problem.

Jones on rock music overall…

V: What’d you think when you first heard rock music?

QJ: Rock ain’t nothing but a white version of rhythm and blues, motherf*cker.

Q Says Rich People Don’t Do Enough For Poor

V: You hang out in these elite social circles and doing good has always been important to you, but are you seeing as much concern for the poor as you’d like from the ultrarich?
QJ: No. The rich aren’t doing enough. They don’t f*cking care. I came from the street, and I care about these kids who don’t have enough because I feel I’m one of ’em. These other people don’t know what it feels like to be poor, so they don’t care.

And Just So We Know What Time It Is

And just so we never get it twisted, Jones made it clear that at 84, he’s still secure in who he is when it comes to being a musical genius:

V: What’s something you’ve worked on that should’ve been bigger?

QJ: What the f*ck are you talking about? I’ve never had that problem. They were all big. […] I can make a band play like a singer sings. That’s what arranging is, and it’s a great gift. I wouldn’t trade it for sh*t.

And BOOM! Drops mic, exits stage left. Quincy is a straight up G!…

Be on the lookout for Quincy Jones upcoming project, Qwest TV: “Everybody is excited about it. It’s going to be a musical Netflix,” says Jones.

And that’s all folks!

Pam Grier. (Photo by Jim Spellman/WireImage)

Pam Grier is finally bringing her life story to the big screen in a biopic tentatively called Pam. The iconic actress who owned the blaxploitation era in film, provided us with sexy, yet powerful images of a Black woman who took no shorts. She has already pegged Bennie Richburg to write the screenplay and at least one of the characters has been cast.

The woman who brought us “Coffy,” “Foxy Brown,” and “Jackie Brown” led a colorful life, especially when it came to her love interests. She had a passionate love affair in the 1970’s with comedian, Richard Pryor, who will be portrayed in the film by SNL alum, Jay Pharoah. She met Pharoah met while they were doing voice work for the video game Infinity Wars.

“I watched him and heard his voice and closed my eyes and said, ‘It’s Richard,'” Grier told Deadline.

The film will draw largely from her autobiography, Foxy: My Life In Three Acts, where she goes into much detail about the other men in her life including NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and actor Freddie Prinze. She also shared much more heinous encounters like the time she was raped by two boys when she was just six years old, a second rape while in college, and the time she had to enlist the help of Liza Minnelli and her husband to escape the aggressive advances of Sammy Davis Jr.

As Grier’s career took off, she credited her agent John Gaines with getting her work and protecting her from sexual predators. He accompanied her to meetings and helped her navigate the do’s-and-dont’s of the business.

“If you go to meet someone on a business deal, your lawyer, manager, agent, someone must always be with you,” Grier recalled. “John always set those rules for me and created a comfort zone. He just had seen so much, he knew. When he took me to clubs, and someone would hand me a drink, he would say: ‘Don’t drink that. See the sediment at the bottom? You drink that and you won’t remember the next week.’ I became comfortable, not accepting the invitations.”

Mhmmmm… won't he do it?? #BLESSED

Pam promises a riveting look at a career that is still far from over. The 68-year-old has had a fascinating life and her work in movies has greatly impacted both Black culture and pop culture. A Pam Grier biopic is an idea whose time has come. Will you be watching?

After a long delay in the production of the upcoming Richard Pryor biopic, “Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said.” Word on the Old School curb is that director, Lee Daniels, and The Weinstein Company (the production company producing the film) are back at it with their all-star line up and a brand new multiplatinum selling rapper investor on board.

The rapper who will be dropping some major cash into the Richard Pryor biopic is ‘Mr. H-to-the iz-O-V-to-the-iz-A,’ Jay Z. Jay has recently gotten into the biopic business after teaming up with The Weinstein Company and has a few other projects in the works as well. Here is what was reported by Variety:

Screen Shot 2016-10-07 at 12.58.18 PM

Lee Daniels has committed to directing The Weinstein Company’s Richard Pryor biopic with Jay Z on board to produce. The Weinstein Company had decided in May to postpone the project, titled “Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said,” after Daniels, the showrunner of Fox’s hit series “Empire,” left the helming gig when he was unable to fit the movie shoot into his schedule. A start date is now set for early 2017.

Screen Shot 2016-10-07 at 3.31.09 PM

Harvey Weinstein announced Thursday that the project was back on track. […] The movie’s cast had been previously announced as Mike Epps as Pryor, Oprah Winfrey as his grandmother, and Kate Hudson as Pryor’s widow Jennifer Lee Pryor.

Screen Shot 2016-10-07 at 12.59.58 PM

We’re not sure how much money Jay Z had to put up to be a part of the Richard Pryor project but it was definitely a pretty penny. With a cast like Oprah Winfrey, Kate Hudson and Mike Epps; and a highly in-demand director, like Lee Daniels, Jay’s price tag wasn’t cheap. You know how the Old School saying goes, ‘You gotta pay to play,’ and on the flip side of things, Jay Z’s return on his investment will probably be well worth it, once this Pryor biopic drops.

Screen Shot 2016-10-07 at 12.54.58 PM
Jay Z will also have a few more biographical projects releasing. He and The Weinstein Company will also bringing to life the story of Kaleif Browder, a high school student from the Bronx who was jailed for three years in one of the nation’s roughest prisons, Rikers Island, all because he was accused of stealing a backpack. He never received a trial date and eventually committed suicide in 2015 by hanging himself in his cell. The docu-series will be in 6 parts and it is titled, “Time: The Kalief Browder Story,” due out in 2017.

Okay Jay-Z, we see you expanding your mogul status and shedding light on the lives of people whose stories deserve to be told…do your thing!

Richard Pryor’s daughter/comedic actress, Rain Pryor, recently revealed a side of her beloved dad that we didn’t typically get to see. Turns out that in the midst of his comedy stories that had us rollin’ back in the day, and the unfortunate drug use that Richard always talked about, Rain says he was actually a very strict parent who did NOT take any mess from his kids. That leads us to what Rain revealed about the time her Pops showed on the set of a TV show she was filming and he put her in check like you wouldn’t believe…

We all know that the late, great Richard Pryor was a wild dude back in the day and this story is just going to prove yet again, just how wild he really was. Years ago, Pointer Sister singer, Anita Pointer, and her then boyfriend/NFL player, Thomas “Hollywood” Henderson, decided to stop by their friend, Pryor’s house and boy did they get the shock of their lives! According to Thomas, Richard surprised him and Anita with a homemade porn movie of himself with two women. Here is what Thomas revealed about that day in his book, Out of Control: Confessions of an NFL Casualty:

thomas hollywood henderson nfl player
(Via Facebook)

“Anita and I took a limo to Richard Pryor’s house.

The butler was circulating with a platter of cocaine. Frankie Crocker was sitting beside me. Pryor went into the kitchen and came out with a plate of barbecue sauce and chicken. He took a chicken leg, dipped it deep in the sauce and stuck it in his hair. Then he smeared it all in his face, under his chin and near his ears.

A few minutes later, a movie screen came down in the living room. The lights dimmed. Up on the screen was Richard Pryor with an erection. An Oriental girl, a white girl and a black girl were catering to his every need. One girl would work him for a while and his eyes looked like they were going to explode. Another would take her best shot and he would give his. They were doing some real freaky stuff. It was wild, Richard was nuts!”

Apparently, Anita Pointer wasn’t offended by Richard’s home porn fiasco and took it all in stride. After reading what Thomas said about that day, I must admit that I’m glad Richard didn’t have the Pointer Sisters’ song playing in teh background of his porn movie. Last thing Anita probably wanted to see/hear was them singing, “I want a man with a slow hand, I want a lover with an easy touch,” playing in Pryor’s home sex video, while three ladies were giving him ‘easy touches with their slow hands.’

Here are a few fun facts about Thomas “Hollywood” Henderson…

“Hollywood” Henderson won the lottery…TWICE. In 2000 he won the $28 million dollar lottery in Texas. Soon after winning those $28M’s, he won a $20K lottery. Thomas also reportedly confessed that he’d spent approximately $20K on lottery tickets prior to winning his two big ones.

After winning Super Bowl XII in 1977, battling cocaine and crack cocaine addiction, serving eight months in drug rehab, as well as 28 months in prison in the 80’s, Thomas “Hollywood” Henderson once again made headlines, except that time it was positive news and he was $28 million richer…although he said he had to break bread with his ex-wife.

Thankfully, “Hollywood” has been clean ever since the day he got busted in November of 1983 and hit with gun, drugs, and assault charges. Today he gives back through his motivational speaking at prisons, at his anti-gun seminars, and various other venues.

The year was 1968 when Richard Pryor’s career had just started and that was the same year his career almost ended. He did the unthinkable to one of his co-stars and it had gotten him shunned in Hollywood for years. That was until his opportunity to appear in the 1973 film, The Mack came along.

Pryor had become somewhat of an outcast in Hollywood after that incident, because keep in mind that not only was that a disrespectful thing to do to another human being, but here was Pryor- an African American man, peeing on a Caucasian woman’s head during the civil rights era! He’s lucky all he got was outcast during that time…y’all know what I’m talking about.

"The Mack" director, Michael Campus
“The Mack” director, Michael Campus

The Mack’s director, Michael Campus, also hated the thought of working with Richard Pryor because of his reputation and he actually described his time on the set with Pryor as “difficult.” Campus said that on many occasions while filming, Pryor showed up to the set high as a kite, and sometimes he was a no-show altogether. Campus also admitted that he was shocked at how well Pryor performed in the film, because on camera Pryor came to life like a true professional and you couldn’t even tell that he was high during taping, once the finished product was completed.

The reason why The Mack save Pryor’s career is because it was a huge box-office hit and that is what prompted other Hollywood big wigs to want to be in the Pryor business again. He was then able to pull his career and part of his reputation out of that declining spiral.

We don’t know if Pryor and Shelley Winters ever made up though.
pryor and max2Yeah ILOSM family, this is just yet another colorful moment in the ever-so-colorful legacy of the late great Richard Pryor.
