ILOSM family, if you’re a true Old Schooler, then you definitely remember when Shanice Wilson had us singing, “Do-do-do-do-doooo-do-do-DOO/ Do-do-do-do-doooo-do-do-DOO/ Do-do-do-do-doooo-do-do-DOO-Do-Doo…I love your smile.” Well that was in 1991, when beepers, rope chains, Fini-sheen Oil spray, and door knocker earrings were ‘in.’ It was also when Shanice was 17 years old, with no kids, nor husband- just a young, carefree queen singing her heart out and MAN can she SANG!

Welp, now that we took that brief trip back down memory lane, let’s fast forward to today. Shanice is now 45 years old, married to her husband/actor, Flex Alexander, are happily celebrating the latest rite of passage that their daughter, Imani, just embarked upon- her prom.

While it’s hard to believe that it’s already been 19 years since Shanice and Flex jumped the broom in 1990, it’s even harder to believe just how fast time has flown by with their eldest child, Imani (they also have a 14 year old son, Elijah). The Mr. and Mrs. have just shared their proud parent moments of Imani and her date on prom day…and to say she looked absolutely grown and gorgeous is an understatement….

She is Shanice Wilson! Did you get this one right family? Is it just me or is it every time we see Shanice, we always feel like singing “Do,do,do,do,do,do,do,do…do,do,do,do,doo,do,do,do….I love your smile.” That was the jam back in the day wasn’t it?!!

Shanice had plenty hits throughout the late 80s and 90’s and I’m happy that she’s back on the scene recording new music. In case you haven’t heard, Shanice, her husband, actor/comedian Flex, and her entire family…well maybe not her whole family, but it’s a bunch of them, were living under one roof and had a reality show on Oprah’s OWN network, titled Flex and Shanice.

On the show, we get to see how Flex and Shanice are rebuilding their careers after being out of the spotlight for a minute. They revealed, in a heart breaking confession on their reality show, that they were struggling really hard financially for a while, but that the show has helped them to start getting some things back on track. We also got to witness them doing their thing, such as seeing moments of Shanice recording in the booth like this…

Other than performing, Shanice also has an adult onesie line that sells onesies for those who like to keep it warm and cozy all day.

Remember singer, Shanice Wilson? She’s the R&B songbird with the voice like butter, who had us belting out “I Love Your Smile” at the top of our lungs back in the day. [*singing* “Do, do, do, do, doo, do-do-doo….”C’mon now don’t get me started!]

Flex and Shanice and Shanice have managed to do what many celebrity couples unfortunately cannot-  they’ve been happily married for 17 years now and also have two wonderful children, Imani and Elijah, as well. They wed on Valentines Day 2000 and today (2-20-17) they posted these messages on Instagram and their fans have been sending them congrats and happy notes ever since:

And it definitely ain’t true for Shanice and Flex Alexander neither!

It’s a beautiful thing to see how far they’ve come They’ve endured some great struggles during their marriage, but their unconditional love for each other and for their children continues to pull them through. Wishing them many, many more wedding anniversaries to come!

Shanice and Flex have gone through some things that many people would have become defeated by when their careers kind of stalled for a while. At one point, they were soaring off Flex’s standup and TV career, as well as Shanice’s singing, but after a few years into their 13-year-marriage, money started to become a major problem. They’d had kids. Flex’s show One On One was a wrap, the phone calls for work stopped, and Shanice’s singing career was at a standstill. Although they’re bouncing back now, it’s still tough for them to think about their struggle and Flex got kind of choked up while talking about this on camera.
