Shaq Has A Comedian In The Fam!’

Comedian, Bill Bellamy, and Shaquille O’Neal are cousins!

Most of you probably remember when Bill first stepped onto the scene in 1992 and set the comedy world off, by popularizing the phrase, “booty call,” on “Def Comedy Jams.” That was hilarious! We also can’t forget about his roles in “Def Jam’s How To Be A Player,” “Love Jones,” and other roles throughout the late ’90s.

During an interview on “The Jennifer Hudson Show” (see video below), Bill joked about fans always being amazed that Shaq is his cousin, as he, himself, is an average Joe:

“There’s a thing why, people be tripping like he just my cousin,” Bellamy said to Jennifer. “Like I’m his cousin too! Right? Like, don’t it go both ways?”

J. Hud laughed and jokingly said, “Right! He ain’t just my cousin.”

“People should be saying, ‘Yo Shaq, I can’t believe you Bill cousin,’” Bill hilariously continued. “But the funny part, people forget that. I don’t know why people forget that like we’ve been family forever, like our whole lives. “You don’t stop being cousins.”

Although Shaq and Bill Bellamy seem very different — Bill was always known as the ‘sex-symbol dude’ of comedy, while Shaq was known as the superstar NBA legend — they do have a few things in common. Obviously, the tall-gene runs in their fam,’ Bill is 6’4″ and Shaq is 7’1″; and they both have a natural sense of humor, which is something Bill confirmed in that same interview:

“[Shaq] is so cool, like, we’ve done so many great things together. And I’m just very proud of what he’s done after basketball like he is just – incredible, man,” said Bellamy. “He’s super funny. Like, he’s super funny. Like people don’t realize it because you can’t really understand him when he talk.”

Shaq and Bill are 7 years apart- Bill is 59 and Shaq is 52- and they apparently have a cool relationship. They even appeared in a 1998 Reebok commercial together, although damn near nobody knew they were actually cousins at that time.

NBA legend, Shaquille O’Neal, and ex-wife/BBW creator, Shaunie O’Neal, are thanking the Higher Power for the strides their 19 year old son, Shareef, is now making on his road to recovery.

As we previously reported, in September 2018 the O’Neal family was rocked when Shareef- who was one of the highest ranked high school basketball players- found out he had a serious heart condition. He was just about to began his college b-ball career at UCLA, but that all came to a screeching heart when doctors informed the family that he needed immediate heart surgery.

On the day of the surgery, in December 2018, Shaunie was a nervous wreck for their baby, understandably so, and she posted this photo and message online:

“This morning was by far my toughest moment being a Mom. If only I could take his place today. Could I at least go with him in that operating room and hold his hand. Separating from him as he was wheeled off to surgery was heartbreaking. THATS MY BABY! I don’t care how old, how big, how grown my kids get I still want to protect them. I had no control over any of this. But there is a God, I trust and believe He is in there with my baby right now and has complete control. #prayforreef 🙏🏽❤️ @shareefoneal #mybaby”

A Simple Request

According to the Jasmine Brand a Twitter user named Jessie46914117 recently posted about her mother’s request to meet Shaq. Jess’s mother, who has been diagnosed with stage four brain, lung and breast cancer, is one of Shaq’s biggest fans and according to Jess one of the things she would love to make happen is setting up a meeting between Shaq and her mother.

Many users were touched by Jess’s story and constant posts about fulfilling her mother’s wish to meet Shaq so they, too, began retweeting Jess’s post. Even Missy Elliot retweeted Jess’s post! Eventually, Jess’s request made its way back to Shaq and he obliged by calling Jess’s mom via Facetime.

How cool is that? Shaq could have easily just replied to Jess’s tweet or sent a direct message but he actually called and made her mother’s day. And apparently Shaq called Jess’s mom a second time after their first chat as well. Jess posted a brief video of their second conversation via Twitter.

During their second conversation Shaq promised to meet Jess and her mother in person sometime in the future and that’s what sets him apart from most celebrities. Kudos to you Shaq for continuously being a standup guy that many people could learn a lot from.

Heartbreaking news has struck the O’Neal family recently and our thoughts and prayers are definitely with them at this time.

NBA legend, Shaquille O’Neal and his ex-wife/Basketball Wives creator, Shaunie o’Neal, are deeply concerned about their 18 year old son, Shareef right about now. In case y’all hadn’t heard, Shareef was one of the most highly sought after high school basketball players during his senior season. There was major hype surrounding his upcoming college b-ball career with UCLA this year.

Unfortunately, the 18-year-old has just bravely announced that UCLA’s medical staff has caught a serious heart aliment and he must now undergo major heart surgery.

He credits the staff with ‘saving his life’ and spoke out during a new interview with TMZ to announce his plans going forward. He will have to sit out his entire freshman season and will be just a “normal student” during that time:

Shareef O’Neal- “So, the other day during a routine check-up…we found a medical issue dealing with my heart. … Thank God the UCLA medical staff found it early, but causing this, I will not be playing this season and I will be a medical red shirt.”

He continued:

“During this time off, I’ll be off for a while, I’ll be focusing on academics, my health of course, and I’ll just be observing [the team] to be the best player I [can] be next year.”

Although Shareef says he understands that his heart surgery will require him to “be out for a couple of months,” he wants people to know this will not hinder his career:

“A lot of people are asking if this is career ending. Absolutely not, it’s just a little bump in the road and I’ll be back in no time. During my rehab, I’ll be attending my classes and being a normal student.”

He took a minute to thank his supporters and to give an honest view of how down this news has him at this time, but also how optimistic he is about his future:

“I’d like to thank UCLA, my family and my teammates and everyone who supports me in this decision. And I just want to say to all the kids [that] the road to success is not always gonna be a straight path. You know, you gotta go through some bumps and bruises.

“It’s not always gonna be easy. I’m a little down, feels like I was on my peak in basketball and going into my freshman year, coming out of a state championship at my high school. Felt like I was at the top of my game, just trying to get better, then this happened. So, I’m just doing my best to focus on my health right now.”

This has to be tough on Shareef and his family, but we definitely commend that young brotha for being able to hold his head high in the midst of this hardship. Looking forward to watching him soar to new heights after he bounces back from his heart surgery and sending positive energy his way.

Many of us may remember seeing a much younger Shareef back in the day, when his parents were still together. He’s appeared at many games and on red carpets as a youngin.’

Well, now, Shareef O’Neal is technically still a youngin,’ but as of January 11, 2018, he officially became a grown youngin,’ so to speak. He turned the big 18 and in celebration of his step into adulthood, his parents gifted him with a plush birthday bash at West Coast Customs and a fire Jeep truck of his own. They also got rapper, ASAP Ferg, and DJ Visions, to grace the party.

As far as Shareef’s future basketball career, hopefully it’ll only be a matter of time before we see him killin’ it in the NBA!

He’ll be graduating from high school in 2018. Playing the forward position, Shareef is currently ranked at No. 19 in ESPN’s rankings the top 60 high school players in the nation. He’s been highly sought after by many colleges, with offers from LSU, Kansas State, Baylor, and UCLA. According to CaliforniaSupremeBasketball.com, in August 2017, Shareef decided to make a verbal commitment with the University of Arizona for his upcoming college freshman year and basketball scholarship.
