The Irish Times first reported the heartbreaking news of Sinéad O’Connor’s passing on Wednesday, July 26, 2023. Her family has released the following statement:

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad. Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time.”

Details surrounding Sinéad cause of death haven’t yet been released.

Sinéad’s music career took off with the release of her first album, “The Lion and the Cobra,” in 1987. This album earned her a Grammy nomination for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance and achieved gold status. However, it was her 1990 album, “I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got,” that brought her immense fame. The album featured her biggest hit, “Nothing Compares 2 U,” written by Prince, and won her the Video of the Year award at the MTV Video Awards.

Sinéad is survived by her three children, Jake, Roisin, and Yeshua.

Of course Sinéad will forever be remembered for her beautiful voice and classic music…but her fans will also always remember her for her devoted commitment to standing up for her personal beliefs; as well speaking out against various forms of oppression or injustices that she deemed to be wrong, no matter how controversial they may have seemed. She was a strong woman indeed.

According to Sinead, just one day after being committed to an Irish hospital for suicidal tendencies, Shane was somehow able to leave the hospital without her knowledge. That same day, Sinead began posting on social media regarding her 17-year-old son’s disappearance and ultimately pleading with Shane to return himself to safety. She wrote, “Like, how has a seventeen-year-old traumatised young person WHO WAS ON SUICIDE WATCH in Tallaght Hospital’s Lynn Ward been able to go missing???”

She continued, “”Hospital of course so far refusing to take any responsibility. Anything happens to my son on their watch? Lawsuits.” Law enforcement had been searching for Shane since Thursday, January 6, 2022. At that time, Sinead pleaded with her son social media, stating, “Shane, your life is precious. God didn’t chisel that beautiful smile on your beautiful face for nothing.”

After not hearing back from her son, eventually Sinead’s public pleads to her son became more desperate. “”This is a message for my son, Shane. Shane, it’s not funny any more all this going missing. You are scaring the crap out of me. Could you please do the right thing and present yourself at a Gardai station. If you are with Shane please call the Gardai for his safety … My world would collapse without you. You are my heart. Please don’t stop it from beating. Please don’t harm yourself. Go to the Gardai and let’s get you to hospital,” she wrote.

The following day, Irish police released a statement saying, “Following the recovery of a body in the Bray area of Wicklow on Friday, 7th January 2022, a Missing Person Appeal in respect of Shane O’Connor, 17 years, has been stood down.”

She continued, “May he rest in peace and may no one follow his example. My baby. I love you so much. Please be at peace.” Sinead is completely devastated by her son’s apparent suicide.

After his death was confirmed, she referenced a Bob Marley song in her online post, “”This is for my Shaney. The light of my life. The lamp of my soul. My blue-eye baby. You will always be my light. We will always be together. No boundary can separate us.” 

Sinead is also continuing to call out all of those she says is responsible for the death of her son. “I have now formally identified the remains of my son, Shane. May God forgive the Irish State for I never will,” Sinead wrote. “26 hours after my son died in the so called care of the Irish State in the form of Tusla, I have yet to receive any contact from Tusla or their representatives. I was informed by Gardai of my son’s death and later I spoke with the GAL. No contact from Tusla is unacceptable,” wrote Sinead.

Sinead wrote:

“Now tusla want to discuss with me “a media release” no doubt wishing to have me join in their efforts to make this death of my child seem like it wasn’t at the hands of the Irish State.”

She continued:

“Tusla and HSE to release dishonest ass covering statement in response to international questioning. A load of lies,refusals to accept responsibility. Couched as always in the omnipotent and false concern they claim to have for the privacy of the children who die on their watch”

Sinead shares her son with her ex, folk musician Donal Lunny. Our sincerest condolences to them both. Rest in peace, Shane O’Connor.

Sinead also referred to Arsenio as Eddie Murphy’s and Prince’s “bi#ch,” which was left for readers’ interpretation and many concluded that she was insinuating that Arsenio is somehow gay – another claim she has zero proof of. In case y’all didn’t know, Sinead is NEVER one to bite her tongue, she’s a lil’ Irish firecracker who just took to social media to baselessly call out Arsenio Hall.

Sinead O’Connor let her typing fingers go to work today when she took to her Facebook page to put some MAJOR allegations on the table. Not only does she say that Arsenio is responsible for giving Prince drugs, but she also hinted that Arsenio allegedly slipped something in her drink back in the day! She even called Arsenio “Prince’s and Eddie Murphy’s b*tch.” What the…?!!

We don’t know what, if any, factual proof Sinead is basing her allegations against Arsenio on, but clearly she feels strongly about her claims.

Arsenio’s rep stated that Sinead O’Connor’s claims are “absolutely false, ridiculous and absurd.”

On a side note, throughout the years, Sinead didn’t have the best relationship with Prince- the man who wrote her number one hit song, “Nothing Compares 2 U,” either. The two of them reportedly had a heated exchange back in the day and never spoke again as far as we know.

As far as the firestorm she started regarding Arsenio Hall, it looks like Sinead eventually had to eat her words, because the post has since been removed from her Facebook page. Long live Prince!

One media outlet summed it up best: ‘Sinead O’Connor is an excellent ‘vocalist, a troublemaker and TRUTH-seeker.’

That’s pretty much what her career has been built off of ever since she shook the music industry up with her Prince penned hit single “Nothing Compares 2 U,” which was released 28 years ago.

O’Connor has stirred up lots of controversy over the years, as a result of standing up for what she believes in- most famously for the time she tore up a photo of the Pope on a live airing of Saturday Night Live in early 1992.

And in a 2014 interview, she stirred up the pot yet again with this story: Sinead revealed that she and Prince had a scuffle back in the day, after she told Prince to “F–k off.” That’s when all hell broke loose! The beloved Prince stood 5’2″ and Sinead is 5’4″, so had he been a woman, this would have been a pretty even match…from a physical standpoint at least.

Here’s part of what Sinead O’Connnor revealed in an interview with Norwegian television network, NRK:

Sinead O’Connor- “I met him [Prince] a couple times…we didn’t get along that well. In fact, we had a punch up…LOL.

He summoned me to his house after “Nothing Compares 2 U” because I made the record without him. I didn’t know him, I’d never met him and then he summoned me to his house and it’s very foolish to do this with an Irish woman, but he took me to the house and he told me that he didn’t like me saying bad words in my interviews, so I told him to ‘f*ck off…”

And like we said, that’s where everything fell apart! According to Sinead, Prince didn’t take too kindly to her telling him to “f*ck off” in his own home. As a result, the two music legends commenced to having a bit of a toss up outside his house, so says Sinead. She lightheartedly told the details of what happened next:

SO- “He got quite violent. I actually had to escape out of his house at like 5 o’clock in the morning. He really packed a punch. Bigger than mine.”

“We’re running around his car, he found me on the road, we’re chasing, I’m spitting at him, he’s trying to box me, and that’s how we got on. … I had to ring someone’s door bell — which is a trick my father taught me years ago — to escape.

I could run faster than him, though, because my father was a sprinter and Prince had on the boots,” she concluded.

I know one thing: If that tussle went down exactly the way Sinead said it did, Prince was probably elated that camera phones didn’t exist back then. Sinead O’Connor seems like the type of woman who would’ve whipped out her phone immediately, to record Prince chasing her around that car, while she was spitting on him at the same time. She would’ve posted video of that fiasco on social media faster than you could say “let’s get ready to rumble” and she probably would have quickly shared it with every news outlet around…LOL. That’s just my opinion though…all jokes aside, this is no laughing matter. Hopefully Prince and Sinead were eventually able to at least reach a respectful place with each other.

The Carver County Sheriff’s Office recently closed the criminal investigation into Prince’s death and thus, made all of the files within the nearly two year case public on their website. Now that they’ve done so, all kinds of information has surfaced, including Sinéad’s interview with investigators in the case. As a result of the major claims Sinéad made about Prince, his ex-wife is clappin’ back as well.

What Sinéad Told Investigators About Prince

Carver County Sheriff’s Office investigators interviewed Sinéad 10 days after Prince’s April 21, 2016 death. His death was caused from an accidental overdose of what we now know were counterfeit Vicodin pills laced with Fentanyl, unbeknownst to Prince. During her interview, Sinéad claimed Prince was a hardcore drug addict, who enjoyed physically abusing women. Check out quotes from her audio interview below.

Sinéad O’Connor: “In the case of Prince, everyone is mistaken who believes that he did not have a drug habit for the entire of his life. He used hard drugs commonly. … I know this because I spent time with the man. … He did not release an album, famously, which is called The Black Album. The reason he didn’t, he told me himself, was that he had been taking so many dark drugs that he had had a vision from God and God had told him, the album [was] evil and he was not to release it. The man’s been using drugs all of this time.”

Even though Sinéad made the drug claims, she also admitted she’d never actually seen Prince do the drugs.

SO: “I’ve seen him in very frightening conditions after using drugs. Now, I cannot say that I ever saw him use the drugs. I never saw him actually take them. He would retire to another room to take whatever the drugs were. When he would come out of the room, he would be very violent, very aggressive. His eyeballs would disappear, literally, from his eyes. They vanished. … He had been extremely violent to a number of women in his life, including myself, and several women were put in the hospital while Prince was under the effects of these medications.”

Sinéad also claimed that Prince -who was a devout Jehovah’s Witness- was supposedly into some type of devil worshipping.

Following the release of Sinéad’s interview, Prince’s ex-wife, Mayte Garcia, spoke out:

Via TMZ- Mayte Garcia tells TMZ he was never violent with her and she never witnessed him being violent with anyone … man or woman. She also says he didn’t do hard drugs while they were together, and she only saw him drunk once. […] Garcia admits she found the reports of Prince’s deadly pill stash shocking and heartbreaking, because she knew him for years and didn’t see anything like that. …

But as for O’Connor’s most outrageous claim — that Prince was into devil worship — Garcia…says he was spiritual and religious, but any claims of him doing something sinister are “ridiculously wrong” … adding, “I strongly deny that in his honor.”

In addition to that, Mayte also thinks that the timing of Sinéad’s claims are fishy, because she says she waited until after Prince was deceased to make them.

Sinéad’s claims do sound a lil’ fishy, but to her credit, she did tell one of those claims about Prince well before his death. At that time, Sinéad claimed, in a prior interview, that she actually had a fist fight with Prince back in the day over the song he wrote for her, “Nothing Compares 2 U.” Read about that HERE. That still doesn’t negate the fact that Sinéad waited until after Prince’s death to make most of her claims, just like Mayte stated. Who do you believe ILOSM family?

We’re sending uplifting energy “Nothing Compares 2 U” singer, Sinead O’Connor. She’s been known to have her moments, where she’s lashed out about several celebs, including Prince and Arsenio Hall. However, this time she sincerely needs help and we hope she gets it.

In a new video message Sinead posted online a few days ago, she appeared to be having a mental breakdown, while painfully revealing that she is homeless and living in a Travel Lodge hotel in the “arse end of New Jersey.”

Sinead was diagnosed with bipolar some years ago and has had several problems with her family- including her children- reportedly as a result of her mental illness. That also was the source of Sinead’s video, where she cried uncontrollably about being “alone” and only having her psychiatrist as a confidant in her life:

Sinead O’Connor: “I want everyone to know what it’s like, that’s why I’m making this video. […] Mental illness, it’s like drugs, it doesn’t give a sh*t who you are, and equally what’s worse, it’s the stigma, it doesn’t give a sh*t who you are. And suddenly all the people that are supposed to be loving you and taking care of you are treating you like sh*t.’’

“I’m all by myself. And there’s absolutely nobody in my life except my doctor, my psychiatrist, the sweetest man on earth, who says I’m his hero, and that’s about the only thing keeping me alive at the moment … and that’s kind of pathetic,” Sinead said.

O’Connor also revealed that she’s currently having suicidal thoughts, which is why her fans have now made her video go viral across the internet, out of grave concern for her well being…

ILOSM fam’ remember when “Nothing Compares 2 U” singer, Sinead O’Connor took to social media to go clean OFF on Arsenio Hall, soon after Prince’s death on April 21, 2016? If not, let us refresh your memory: Sinead said- and I quote- “Two words for the DEA investigating where Prince got his drugs over the decades…Arsenio Hall (AKA Prince’s and Eddie Murphy’s bitch.”

Long story short, Arsenio called her claims “absolutely false, ridiculous and absurd” and immediately filed a $5 million dollar lawsuit against her.

Well, now I guess after seeing that Arsenio has not let up on his promise to sue the brakes off of her, Sinead has just come back 10 months later to backtrack for lying on him. According to TMZ, Sinead and Arsenio released a joint statement saying “Sinead has retracted and apologized for statements she made about Arsenio last year, which prompted his defamation lawsuit against her.” And then came Sinead’s official apology. “I apologize for my Facebook posts about Arsenio to the extent that anyone thought I was accusing him of acting as Prince’s drug dealer and supplying him with illegal hard drugs, or insinuating that Arsenio had something to do with Prince’s death. I sincerely apologize because those statements would be false, and I retract them unequivocally.”

Here’s the best news for Sinead though, Arsenio Hall is now DROPPING his $5 million lawsuit against her, since she’s apologized and admitted she was lying. Woah! She got off that time.

TOO MUCH, TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE?

I really dig Sinead O’Connor as an artist, but I gotta be real…it took her TEN MONTHS to apologize for her lie?!! Arsenio’s a good man for dropping his lawsuit so late in the game, because that was defamation at it’s finest. So uh…in the words of Deniece Williams and Johnny Mathis’ song: “Too much, too little, too late to ever try again,” would have been the response most folks would have given Sinead for that day late, dollar short apology…just saying. Take us out Deniece and Johnny…
