Case after case, R. Kelly seems to turn up on the wrong side of a trending topic. Now, according to his attorneys, he’s illiterate.

R. Kelly has continuously made headline news, ever since the release of Surviving R. Kelly — the Lifetime documentary regarding the artist and various alleged sexual assault victims, including his ex-wife. With that in mind, several allegations have landed the singer in court.

Or at least, he was supposed to be in court…

NBC News reports that the judge who ordered a default judgment against R. Kelly — after he did not respond to a lawsuit filed by one of his alleged victims — now says the suit can continue.

According to the source, on Wednesday, May 8, Cook County Judge Moira Johnson reinstated the lawsuit after R. Kelly’s lawyers claimed the singer never responded to the alleged victim’s lawsuit because he’s illiterate.

DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES (UAE) — While R. Kelly has a gig lined up in Dubai, is this also a plan of escape? Some sources think so. Here’s why.

According to Associated Press (AP), Dubai is mixed in with R. Kelly, amid his legal drama. On Thursday, the performer asked a U.S. judge to allow travel to the Arabian Peninsula in order to perform shows and “meet with the royal family.”

As you know, R. Kelly is currently facing 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse — having allegedly assaulted three underage girls and an adult woman, AP reports.

The source notes that Kelly’s lawyer, Steven A. Greenberg, mentions the singer needing to raise money. “He has struggled of late to pay his child support and other child related expenses,” Greenberg reportedly states.

NOTE: If you recall, R. Kelly was recently taken back into police custody after having not paid child support in quite some time. But apparently, he’s out on bail for that too — effectively posting a new video to his Instagram, serenading to his daughter.

By now, you’ve seen R. Kelly’s breakdown during his interview with Gayle King. Well, Stephanie “Sparkle” Edwards — one of the first to come out about the singer — has a few things to say about it.

Note: In case you don’t know Sparkle, she’s one of R. Kelly’s former singers. But more importantly, her niece is allegedly the 14-year-old girl who was seen in the video with the artist, allegedly.

Anyway, like everyone else who saw R. Kelly’s interview, she thinks it was over-the-top.

“Robert is always on stage,” Edwards mentions during an interview with TMZ. “It’s always a performance for him.”

“I mean — not to say that, you know, the breakdowns weren’t real for him. I mean, I feel like he understands now that this is real, for real this time.”

Sparkle goes on to explain the situation with her niece. According to R. Kelly’s former singer, this whole ordeal hasn’t really been great for her — having to relive it all, so to speak.

“I didn’t wanna be a part of the ‘Surviving R. Kelly’ piece,” Sparkle states. “Thankfully, my manager talked me into it.”

She says she told her story so it’d be authentic from her and also so no one would possibly lie.

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS — R. Kelly is out here “fighting for his life,” for real. It’s coming from all angles, it seems. And he couldn’t avoid this particular charge.

“He was taken out the back of the courtroom with his hands behind his back,” Chicago Sun-Times reports.

According to the source, R. Kelly was at the Daley Center handling some other business, outside the controversial paradigm of recent news. However, interestingly enough, the situation plays inline with his statements during the Gayle King interview. ILOSM previously covered that story.

If you’ve seen R. Kelly’s interview with the goddessly poised Gayle King, you also remember him mentioning he’s trying to have a relationship with his kids.

Well, Robert Kelly attended a court hearing regarding his children, on Wednesday, March 6. And it did not end well for him.

‘Child Support’…

Reportedly, Robert owed quite the pocketful in child support to his ex-wife, Andrea Kelly.

“A Cook County judge [Lori Rosen] last month issued an order that would send Kelly to jail if he hadn’t paid the $161,663 he owes his ex-wife by 10 a.m. Wednesday,” Chicago Sun-Times mentions.

And that’s exactly what happened. As stated above, he was escorted from the court room by authorities and taken back into custody.

According to the source, R. Kelly “dodged” his ex-wife and her lawyers’ from serving him. For this reason, they could not take him to court on the matter. However, during this time, the singer’s payments continued to accrue. The Chicago Sun-Times mentions as follows.

“Kelly’s criminal defense lawyer, Steve Greenberg, said after the bond hearing that despite a decades-long career and millions of records sold, the singer’s finances are ‘a mess.’ Kelly’s income took a significant hit after he was dropped by his record label amid public outcry over allegations of sexual abuse of minors raised in the Lifetime documentary, Surviving R. Kelly.”

Yet, the issue with this is also that Robert Kelly continues to have 20+ people on his payroll, who are still working for him — as notes the source. Likewise, he’s still able to afford a penthouse suite at Trump Tower, allegedly where Jocelyn Savage and Azriel Clary are said to be staying.

David France, manager for Andrea Kelly, says R. Kelly obviously “isn’t without means.” “Not until he was arrested did he say he didn’t have any money,” France expounds.

Jocelyn Savage At R. Kelly’s Bail Hearing

Sandra Rose reports that Savage’s parents quickly flew to Chicago in hopes of reuniting with their daughter, after the singer was arrested on February 22. Kelly was charged with 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse of minors, according to the source.

But even in his charges, both Jocelyn and Azriel appeared by his side in court. According to the source, they both told reporters they were there to show support for Kelly. Reportedly, the singer was released after posting 10 percent of his $1,000,000 bond. Newsweek says he’s due back in court on March 22 — until then, he’s maintaining his innocence and denying all allegations and charges against him.

Sandra Rose states that Jocelyn’s parents feel that she’s being brainwashed and intimidated by R. Kelly. Nevertheless, they have high hopes she’ll choose to return home with them. Yet, first, the parents still need an escort to the apartment.

According to TMZ, R. Kelly’s attorney — Steven Greenberg — mentioned:

“Police in Chicago and Atlanta have both done wellness checks. Plus [Jocelyn] has been in court. Now this attorney is a psychiatrist. Gimme a break.”

Kelly Unaffected By Alleged Accusers

Lifetime’s TV series, Surviving R. Kelly, and the #MuteRKelly movement have both highlighted R. Kelly’s alleged 25 year history of sexual assault and emotional abuse against young Black women and girls, in an effort to end the career of the R&B singer. However, Kelly has experienced very little negative impact.

Despite being dumped by Sony-owned RCA Records last week, (after great protests and pressure from music fans), and being a trending topic on Twitter as a “pedophile,”  it would seem as if Kelly’s 2019 was headed in a downward spiral. However, surprisingly his money and influence have instead soared. I guess what they say is true- bad publicity is good publicity.
