In case y’all hadn’t heard…Swizz Beatz and Timbaland created the now-popular music battle show, “Verzuz,” where everyone from Stephanie Mills vs. Chaka Kahn; to Three Six Mafia verses Bone Thugs N’ Harmony have embarked in mostly friendly music battles against each other.

In case you also hadn’t heard, in January 2021 Swizz and Timb’ sold “Verzuz” to streaming service, Triller — which has greatly benefitted from their show. That’s where the problem comes in.

Why Swizz Beatz And Timbaland Are Suing Triller Over “Verzuz”

The two mega-producers have just hit Triller with a $28 million dollar lawsuit. Their lawsuit claims Triller is trying to stick Swizz and Timbaland for their paper.

It’s being reported that after signing an agreement to sell Verzuz to Triller, the streaming service defaulted on the deal after just two payments:

Via TMZ: Swizz and Timbaland say they settled with Triller after the initial default, but they say Triller played the same game as before … making one installment and then not paying up the remaining balance.

As a result of the alleged defaulted payments, Timbaland and Swizz Beatz are not only suing for $28 million, but also for interest.

Triller Responds To Lawsuit Claims

Now that Triller has been publicly put on blast, the company has released a statement with their take on the money they owe Timb’ and Swizz…and to be honest…so far, Triller’s side of the story sounds a tad suspect in my humble opinion:

Via TMZ: A rep for Triller just released a statement, saying, “This is not a feud over VERZUZ, but simply about earn-out payments to Swizz and Tim. Swizz and Tim have personally been paid by Triller over $50 million in cash and stock to-date, and they stand to benefit even more over time. In addition, they have annual obligations, which if met, and no breach has occurred, entitles them to additional payments. …

Only one payment of $10 million is in question. We do not believe they have met the thresholds for that payment yet, which include, but are not limited to, delivery of a set number of VERZUZ events for 2022. We have been trying to resolve this amicably and this does not affect VERZUZ operations or Triller’s ownership of VERZUZ. If this does proceed in court, we look forward to a judgment that weighs all the facts.”

Hopefully, Timbaland and Swizz Beatz get whatever amount of profits they rightfully deserve for creating one of the most popular music battles of today’s time…one that clearly helped Triller come up big time…just sayin.’ 🤷🏾‍♂️

Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys have had a rocky past with his ex-wife, Mashonda Tifrere, and understandably so. The good thing is that Mashonda has found a way to transform her pain into love, and now into a business venture that we feel deserves a rousing hand clap.

There’s nothing like a woman scorned, which is exactly what Swizz Beatz’s ex-wife admittedly was when he left her for Alicia Keys, then quickly began a new life with the “Woman’s Worth” singer. Fast forward to two more kids later, A. Keys and Swizz, have made amends with the mother of two of his five children (Swizz also has one more child with a different mother) and everyone’s in a happy ‘Kum-ba-yah’ kinda space today.

So much so, that they’re officially breakin’ bread together with the release of Mashonda’s much needed new book about their love triangle; as well as their hella cool co-parenting practices nowadays.

Years ago, Alicia Keys was accused, by Mashonda, of ‘stealing’ her then husband and having an affair with him, while she was raising her and Swizz’s then newborn infant. It’s been 8 years since Alicia Keys married her husband/music producer, Swizz Beatz. It has also been 8 years since he divorced his ex-wife and mother of his kids, Mashonda, to marry Alicia. It’s been 9 years since Mashonda publicly blasted Alicia Keys for “destroying” her family. What Has Fans Riled Up

Keys has been labeled a “home wrecker” by fans for several years now. However, that backlash has simmered down in more recent years, especially after Mashonda clearly forgave her for reportedly cheating with her then husband. Therefore, the harsh reaction Keys received on Wednesday (Aug. 29) may have caught her off guard.

Swizz and Keys were married on July 31, 2010 and are currently celebrating their 8th wedding anniversary in Egypt. What was supposed to be an uplifting and joyous social media celebration, turned into an open invite for fans to throw shade at Alicia. Swizz Beatz shared a photo on Instagram of himself shielding Alicia from the hot Egypt sun with an umbrella, along with a message for men:

“Attention all men. You shouldn’t be jealous or upset if you have a queen that’s successful, smarter or better than you,” Swizz captioned. “What you should do is thank the most high or step your game up. Mashonda’s 2009 Open Letter Blasting Keys

To get a clear picture of just how far Mashonda, Alicia Keys, and Swizz have come in their current ‘Kum0ba-yah’ love triangle, here is part of Mashonda’s 2009 open letter to Keys:

“My concern with AK is no longer the fact that she assisted in destroying a family but that she has the audacity to make these selfish comments about love and wanting to be with someone, even after knowing their situation. How is this the same Superwoman that I sang out loud with in my truck? I ask myself sometimes. If you are reading this Alicia, let me start by saying, you know what you did. You know the role you played and you know how you contributed to the ending of my marriage. You know that I asked you to step back and let me handle my family issues. Issues that you helped to create.”

“I read your tweets tonight and I felt they were very insensitive. You have no idea how much pain I was caused because of this affair. It’s baffling to me that you don’t understand what I might have gone through with this situation. I don’t consider myself a victim anymore, I’ve learned a lot from this! I just ask you to try and be a bit more realistic and delicate to the situation, at least until my divorce is final.” -Mashonda

Mashonda and Swizz have two sons together- born in 2004 and 2006. In May 2010 they divorced and also in May 2010, Swizz and Alicia announced they were engaged and that Alicia was already four months pregnant with their first son who was born in December 2010. They had their second son in 2014.

It’s definitely understandable why Mashonda was devastated, but she has proven to be a woman of commendable character. She’s forgiven and learned to love Keys as the mother of her children’s siblings. She also loves Swizz and Alicia’s children unconditionally.

Their Tumultuous Past, Alleged Affair

Before we get to what they did for Mothers Day, we must first recap their past drama. As we previously reported, Mashonda definitely deserves her props for being a bigger than most would have been willing to, or capable of ever being. That’s because in 2009, Mashonda  put her then husband, Swizz, and his then ‘side piece,’ Alicia Keys, on full blast in an open letter.

In the open letter, Mashonda detailed how Keys and Swizz had been having an affair behind her back for approximately two years at that time. She also voiced how hurt she was that they’d do something like that to her and Swizz’s children, one of which Mashonda had just given birth to…

One look at them today and you’d never guess that Mashonda couldn’t stand Keys for ‘taking her husband’ away from her. It was a beautiful thing to see because clearly, they’ve each decided to put their unconditional love for their children first, in order to raise them in a cohesive, psychologically healthy environment.

His New Year Resolution:

Like many others. Swizz has a New Year Resolution he’s trying to keep and it centers around him focusing on his health. So as part of a promise to his late friend/Ruff Ryders producer, Jay “Ice Pick” Jackson, who died of cancer last year, he began the new year by doing something most people dread, but should consider. The “On To The Next” producer opted to have a colonoscopy after seeing how cancer claimed Ice Pick’s life last year.

His Message To Fans:

After the procedure, Swizz took to Instagram with a message to fans. He urged them to take their health seriously and do the things needed to maintain their health.

“Your health is your wealth — I wanted to start off 2018 by keeping the promise I made to my brother the late great Jay Icepick Jackson. Major Accomplishments and Life Changes:

Swizz Beatz’s announcement to fans comes just weeks after one of the biggest accomplishments in his career. For those who missed it,  the Ruff Ryders rapper/producer recently graduated from Harvard University. Back in December 2017, he took to Instagram to release a statement about the educational milestone he crossed, yet again inspiring his fans with a potent message about challenging oneself. “Today is graduation day,” he shared. “In life we must keep graduating until the end. When I say we must graduate I’m talking about on all levels not just school. This moment is special to me and my family because many people look up to me and they use my drive to thrive.”

Props to Swizz Beatz for raising awareness for a much needed cause and pushing himself outside of his comfort zone and onto a greater path!

Why They’re Being Sued

This whole ordeal is over their fleet of high end luxury vehicles. According to reports, in September, a car leasing company, by the name of Metro Gem Leasing, filed a lawsuit against Swizz, but they also decided to add Alicia Key’s company, AK Worldwide Productions, to it as well.

In the ‘suit, the leasing company claims that Swizz tried to pull a fast one over on them, by ‘reselling, or fraudulently using’ the cars that were leased in his name. Some of the vehicles listed were a $600,000 Ferrari F12 and a $155,000 Range Rover. According to Metro, the cars were still being put to use by Swizz, after he’d defaulted on the loans.

The lawsuit also states that the cars were apparently meticulously stashed away to avoid getting repossessed after they were already in default and major money was still owed for the cars. In a separate legal filing, Metro Leasing also claimed that both Swizz Beatz and Keys were in default for 5 car leases.

Keys & Beatz Dispute Claims

After Keys was name dropped in the lawsuit, she has now reportedly decided to fight back. According to reports, Keys is filing to get her name completely off the lawsuit, because she says she has nothing to do with those leased vehicles and that as far as she knows, all of the cars were properly returned to Metro. She also said her name is nowhere on the lease agreement and alleges that Metro is just trying to use her name for a more profitable outcome.

As far as Swizz’s side of the story, he was reported as accusing the car leasing company of trying to sue him for an outlandish amount simply because he is rich and famous. He, too, has now reportedly filed a separate motion to have his name dismissed from the lawsuit as well.

A Long Time Comin’:

The announcement about Swizz’s graduation follows an interview with Nylon magazine, where he explained how much the educational edge has helped him to “sharpen” his business skills:

“I think that since going to Harvard, I’ve definitely sharpened my pencil out on the business front way more than I ever expected. It’s helped me to have an idea, plan it, and execute it. Before I was at Harvard, [when] you had a great idea, you thought that the magic was going to fall from the sky because it’s a great idea, you know? So now, I know the reality of those great ideas and how to evaluate those great ideas, and how to set up the blueprint and the platform to execute those ideas, which is very, very important because I would usually have to hire a bunch of people to tell me how I should do my idea. Now, I can hire a bunch of people and tell them what my idea does. It’s a big difference.”

With a celebrity on campus, most fans would probably think it would have been kinda difficult for Swizz to focus. But he previously revealed it wasn’t too hard because surprisingly, a lot of students didn’t recognize even the brotha. Wow…really? Well, on second thought, there were probably a lot of students there who were still sippin’ on sippy cups when Swizz was dominating the rap charts. Alicia Keys husband/producer, Swizz Beatz, had to take to Instagram to stand up for his woman. As we all know, we live in a ‘Damned if you do, damned if you don’t’ type of society, that at any given moment will hurl a boatload of insults at you for doing the most, or not doing enough.

For example, K. Michelle and Nicki Minaj always criticized for going too far with their alleged butt injections…

Lil Kim gets slammed for overdoing it with her facial plastic surgeries and wearing too much makeup.

Okay, well…those examples may not have been the best examples to use, but you get the point…

The point is that NOW, Alicia Keys is actually getting criticized for doing TOO LITTLE, by showcasing her natural beauty, withOUT makeup at the MTV Awards the other day. People were like ‘How dare she step out like that?’ and in the same breathe, were doggin’ Diddy’s woman, Cassie, for her Lil Kim inspired lime green hair. So it’s a flip-floppy world we’re in, but A. Keys took it all and stride.

In the meantime, Swizz stepped up to the plate to thoroughly check his wife’s haters in one of the most practical ways ever. Check this out…

Listen, it took a lil’ bit of guts and a whole LOT of confidence for A. Keys to go on national TV bare faced, on such a highly viewed show, and represent one of the most superficial industries in the world- the music industry. We all love music and the people who create it, but at the same time, the truth is that sex and sexy sells in the music game. And in our opinion, Keys didn’t represent anything less. Truth be told, one of the most beautiful features a woman can possess is self confidence- it doesn’t matter if she’s tall, short, thick, skinny, obese, wears makeup or not- confidence has always been beautiful and sexy. At the VMA’s, Alicia Keys faced the world and showed just how beautiful she really is.
