I Love Old School Music fam’…guess who’s back and giving us all ’90s vibes nostalgia? It’s the cast of “Martin”. After years of rumors, beef, and love lost, our favorite crew reunited for a hilarious spoof at the 2024 Emmys.

Martin Lawrence, Tisha Campbell, Tichina Arnold, and Carl Anthony Payne II gathered on the iconic sitcom’s recreated set to present Jeremy Allen White with the Lead Actor award for “The Bear.” But that wasn’t all – they also took the opportunity to give the Emmys a little friendly shade for all the years of snubs they received back in the day.

With a photograph of the late Thomas Mikal Ford placed prominently on the table, they paid homage to their fallen cast member. It was a touching moment that reminded us of the love and camaraderie that made “Martin” so special.

And Carl Anthony Payne II fully embraced his “Cole” character, hilariously assuming they were there to snatch an Emmy, not present one.

Now, we all know that “Martin” has been a staple in the Black households long after it went off the air. But it was Tisha Campbell who dropped the mic when she exposed the fact that their beloved ’90s sitcom won an Emmy. The audience couldn’t help but show some love and appreciation for Tisha’s boldness. Do your thing Tisha!

Let’s take a moment to remember the good old days when “Martin” graced our screens from 1992 to 1996. This show was more than just a sitcom – it was a cultural phenomenon. And they had some killer guest stars too, like The Notorious B.I.G., Method Man, and even Tommy Hearns. Remember that episode with MC Hammer? Well, Carl’s hat at the Emmys was a hilarious nod to that iconic moment!

Now, if you’re a true fan, you know that this reunion is another win for Detroit. Just days after the city celebrated its first NFL playoff victory in what seems like forever, the “Martin” crew brought even more joy to the Motor City.

Their Painful Revelation & Triumph About Their Youngest Son

Their sons are growing up at lightening speed, but parenting their babies didn’t come without a few hurdles along the way. Tisha and Duane have had their fair share of challenges. Although they’re now divorced, many of the challenges they faced as Mr. and Mrs. could cause some marriages to dissolve far sooner than the 24 years they actually were able to make it last. However, the adversities that the Martins faced made their love for one another that much stronger for a long while.

In 1996, they jumped the broom; and then had their son, Xen (19), in August of 2001. Xen was deemed autistic by doctors as an infant. In a prior interview with Essence magazine, Tisha revealed that she noticed something was different about her child after he received a Hepatitis B shot. According to Tisha, she believes that the shot attributed to her son being autistic.

“Right after [Xen] got the Hepatitis B shot; I noticed a difference the second day of life. There was just something different and I kept telling everyone who walked in the room, ‘Something is up with this baby’ and they kept saying no you’re a new mom. The same exact thing happened with my nephew. He started having seizures and autistic-like symptoms. I asked if he’d gotten the Hepatitis B shot and they said yes. I couldn’t say anything. So when you asked me do I think [vaccinations] can attribute to autism, I think it might have something to do with it, because of what I’ve seen from my particular family,” Tisha Campbell-Martin revealed to Essence.

In speaking with Essence Magazine, Tisha shared the importance of spreading awareness about the disorder and helping to promote acceptance of children with autism. She teamed up with four other mothers of autistic children in 2011 to produce a short film, called Colored My Mind, which was screened at the MegaFest International Faith and Film Festival. Campbell-Martin also published a children’s book called My Brother Doesn’t Want to Play to help children cope with having a sibling who is “different.” While Xen has made great progress as a child with autism, the road was rough. Tisha told Essence that detecting autism early in a child is important and can mean the difference between him or her thriving in society or simply passing along.

“Xen was non-verbal [when he was younger], explained the star. He would flap his arms and rock back and forth. He’s never been…in a special needs class because I wanted him to model after typical kids and now he’s a typical kid. He has a girlfriend and he is now speaking; you can’t shut him up. He says, ‘I used to be autistic and don’t be telling my girlfriend I used to be autistic either.’ So I’m blessed because we were able to catch it early.”

Will Smith his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith; and actor, Duane Martin, go waaaaay back, like Cracker Jacks. Duane and Will have been best friends for decades and Jada loves Duane like a play-brother. Just like any tightly knit friendship, when one’s friend is down, the other steps up. This was the case for the Smiths, when Duane and wife, Tisha Campbell, fell into major money problems.

Now, Jada and Will’s generosity has caused them to involuntarily get sucked into the bankruptcy fraud scandal that Tisha and Duane have been battling for months. This situation also just got even uglier for Duane.

Duane Martin Accused Of Using Jada and Will’s Help To Hide Money/House Scam?

As most y’all already know, Tisha and Duane are not only caught up in their bankruptcy fraud case, but they’re also in the middle of a bitter divorce war.

The latest hurdle is that according to The Blast, court records show that the trustee overseeing their bankruptcy case, is accusing Duane (who previously told courts the money issues are his fault and not Tisha’s) of trying to hide $2.6 million under their company, Roxe, LLC. Apparently, the trustee believes that Duane and Tisha pulled a dirty money move in order to avoid those millions and their home from being included in the case. Now they face losing their ‘Martin family home.’

So what does all of this have to do with Will and Jada, you ask? Here’s a quick breakdown of why they’re now involved:

Via TB- The trustee alleges Duane set up Roxe LLC to allegedly conceal ownership of a 9,000 sq ft mansion in Chatsworth, California. Duane originally bought the home in 2006 for $900,000. He then borrowed $1.9 million for the purpose of constructing the “Martin family home.”

Duane then defaulted on his loan to negotiate a short sale with the bank, and he used Roxe to buy the home back from the bank using a $1.4 million loan from Will and Jada. Roxe LLC became the owner and Duane and Tisha allegedly entered into a lease with their own company to pay rent of $5,000 per month.

Earlier this year, Duane listed the home for $2,695,000 with the intention of pocketing all of the sales proceeds in excess of the loan given by Will and Jada, meaning he would pocket $1.3 million if sold at asking price.

As a result of the aforementioned allegations, the trustee feels that Duane’s and Tisha’s reported lease was just a fake cover-up and that the Martins didn’t even make all of the payments, due to the loan from the Smiths. Now, the bankruptcy fraud lawsuit is asking the court to force Tisha and Duane to relinquish their home, in order to help pay off creditors in their bankruptcy filing.

The Latest In Their Divorce War

As we previously reported in February 2018, Tisha filed for divorce from Duane after 22 years of marriage. Their divorce announcement caught fans by surprise and shortly afterwards, the estranged couple was hit with the bankruptcy fraud allegations. Ever since their battles have gone public, it’s been a war of bitter finger-pointing and accusations both have hurled in the other’s direction.

The odd thing is that they both are seeking spousal support from each other. Like the trustee, Tisha’s accusing Duane of hiding money from her to avoid paying her spousal support. On the flip side, Duane claims she makes more money than him, therefore she should be paying him instead. So at this point, it’s unclear who’s gonna come out on top in that scenario. The Martins have two sons together and Tisha wants joint custody, which is probably one of the few divorce requests they agree on. Wishing them all the best.

Initially, it seemed as if Tisha Campbell and Duane Martin would have one of the more quiet celebrity divorces. But as time progresses, it doesn’t look like the divorce proceedings will be going smoothly at all.

These two just can’t go their separate ways, because the money situation is so messy. From bankruptcy to hiding assets, there’s been a lot goin’ on lately. Now, it looks like both of them are fighting for spousal support – from each other. The interesting part about this argument is that both of them are pointing the finger at each other insisting either of them has the means to pay.

Pay Up, You Got That:

According to The Blast, the former “Martin” star is now seeking spousal support from her estranged husband. We all know, Duane has been sayin’ his money is a lil’ funny right now. For those who don’t know, Tisha and Duane filed bankruptcy to resolve their debt of more than $15 million. But despite the bankruptcy and other financial factors, Tisha adamantly insists Duane is full of it. In fact, she’s even accused him of hiding money. Now, she’s demanding spousal support and reportedly has a reason for doing so.

It has been reported that Tisha isn’t buying Duane’s claims about not being able to pay spousal support. He may not be in the acting game as strong as he once was but, according to Tisha, he still got that. Why? Well, there are a number of factors her legal team is hoping the judge considers.

Even though Duane has been laying low, Tisha believes he’s still generating approximately $62,000 a month. That’s not all.

She also claims he has more than a half of million dollars worth of shirts, alone. So, it looks like she wants her ex-husband’s shirt collection – which consists of more than 500 shirts worth an estimated $1,500 each – to be included in his assets.

Getting Messier:

The latest news follows a string of reports about Tisha and Duane’s financial fiasco. Back in February, Tisha took to social media to announce their split after 27 years of marriage. At the time, it just seemed like they’d decided quietly to go their separate ways.

While the money issues appear to bring out the worse in the situation, all of the reports aren’t bad. For those who missed it, Tisha recently made a power move by buying back her acting rights amid the bankruptcy. Although it has been reported that she now has approximately $1.5 million in assets, she’s still seeking spousal support because she no longer has a steady monthly income.

Reports have suggested Tisha does generate about $7,000 a month, but it’s not nearly enough to cover the staggering cost of her monthly expenses of more than $35,000. Her legal team estimates Duane’s earnings nearly double the amount of her expenses.

With that and his assets, she thinks he has enough coming in to pay her. Earlier this year, Tisha accused Duane of hiding money during their marriage. So if that claim is true, not much has changed based on her latest filings.

Both sides are good with joint custody of the couple’s two children: Ezekiel, 8, and Xen, 16.

He says the blunder falls squarely on his shoulders: “Prior to our separation, I handled the family finances and business finances by myself. I recognized then that I was not capable of preparing an accounting by myself.”

Duane then revealed that things are apparently so bad between him and Tisha, that communication between them is and/or was pretty much nonexistent and that when they do talk, they beef:

Duane says, “We were having difficulty communicating with each other and agreeing about major and minor issues, including who to retain to prepare the accounting requested by the Trustee.”

Seeing them end their 21 year union, makes me feel like that classic line Chris Rock cited in the movie, “Boomerang” – “Damn, first the Fat Boys break up…now this.”

On April 9, a judge in the couple’s ongoing bankruptcy ordered Duane and Tisha to turn over all accounting for residuals they were paid from the date they filed for bankruptcy until now. According to recent documents obtained by The Blast, Duane and Tisha will not be sanctioned by the court. However, the trustee will continue to collect all residuals and the Martins won’t see a dime, for now. If the accounting reveals the pair owe money, they will have 30 days to pay it. If they don’t, the difference will be paid back to them from the $125,000 check.

Apparently, Tisha and Duane are now being accused of owing a lump sum of money, by the trustee of their Chapter 7 bankruptcy filing:

Via TheBlast: According to documents obtained by The Blast, the trustee of the Martins’ Chapter 7 bankruptcy says in 2016 a settlement was reached that required Tisha to turn over all her acting residuals paid from after their initial bankruptcy filing. She was also given an option to buy back her residual rights for $125,000.

Gottlieb says he was going over the books this month, because the bankruptcy remained active, and claims the Martin’s improperly diverted all Tisha’s residuals from after the bankruptcy filing, totaling $50,000.

He says that last year the Martins said they wanted to buy back Tisha’s residual rights, but shortly after handing over a check for $125,000 they allegedly claimed it should be used to satisfy the remaining residual payments. … Gottlieb accuses the couple of trying to do a “bait-and-switch” and says it was in bad faith. Now he wants both Duane and Tisha sanctioned and is requesting that the judge order that all the residual income is paid to the estate.

Divorce Filing

‘We were all rooting for you!’ is what many fans were shouting when they first heard news that Tisha and Duane were going their separate ways. In February of this year (2018), the Martins shocked everybody, with their seemingly sudden divorce announcement. It was disappointing to many, because for so long, they’ve been a beautiful representation of Black love in the media. They even looked like they were headed in the same direction as Duane’s best friend, Will Smith, and Smith’s wife/actress, Jada- who will be hitting their 21st anniversary this year. Unfortunately though, after 20 years of marriage, Tisha revealed that she’d filed for divorce. There goes our hopes of them reaching Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee levels *sigh*.

The Martins amicably released a joint statement via People:

“After 27 years of being together and two amazing children, it pains me to announce that I’ve filed for divorce,” Tisha, 49, said in the statement. “It’s an emotional time and I graciously ask for privacy for me, our children and the rest of our family,” she shared. Tisha, who cited irreconcilable differences in her divorce filing, has requested joint legal and physical custody of their children, the documents state. She has also requested that Duane pay her spousal support.

The random good news is that Tisha Campbell-Martin has FINALLY squashed her reported decades-long beef with former co-star, Martin Lawrence. In February 2018, Tisha and Martin were publicly spotted together for the first time in over 20 years! They had their co-star/friend, Tichina Arnold, with them too.

The “Martin” trio were stopped by paparazzi, as they were coming out of Morton’s Steakhouse, looking hella happy to be reunited. It was a beautiful thing to see, because they had big smiles on their faces- smiles so big, that it looked like they were hiding pertinent information. That led the camerawoman to ask them about the “Martin Show” reboot rumors we’ve been hearing lately and their answers have fans even more excited. Check out what they revealed in the video below…

At least the “Martin” reboot talk (and of course her and Duane’s children), gives Tisha something to smile about in the midst of lawsuits, divorce proceedings, and heartbreak. It’s also great the Martins are keeping their divorce peaceful…wishing them the best.
