sees the dirt that must be cleared up before any of us can excel- mentally or psychologically.

You see, Gil Scott-Heron was a person who was in constant search of the truth about the world we live in and just like the Old School saying goes: ‘The truth hurts.’ It’s very possible that Gil and the four other celebs you’ll see on the next pages, are all people who got ‘hurt’ because they opened their eyes and learned the truth about the horrific fabric of our society. And what do you do when you hurt? You try to get rid of the pain. Well in their cases they used the same medications that regular people use if they’re in severe, traumatic physical pain- cocaine (we may have to take prescribed codeine), they used heroin (we may have to get a dose of an opiate if we’re hospitalized after severe injury). It’s just that they needed to numb their constant pain everyday. Another thing an ugly truth can do is scare us sometimes, and what do we do when we’re scared? We run, which is kind of like what these very intellectually insightful celebs did after analyzing the ugly truths about America…drugs helped them run from their fears.

So in Gill Scott-Heron’s case, let’s look at crack like tennis shoes, because it aided him in running.

Now none of this is a justification for his drug addiction, this is merely a hypothetical analysis based on an outsider’s perception of the man who knew decades ago that the “revolution would not be televised.” Fast forward to today and it still has not been televised- it has been masked, altered, and suppressed…that is until the internet started to give rise to we, the people. Slowly we are beginning to see sparks all across the world of a revolution, which is not a result of mainstream media ‘televising’ it. So maybe Gil Scott-Heron had foreseen more than what we thought he saw.

Here are other highly insightful celebs who all succumbed to some form of drug addiction…

About I Love Old School Music

We salute the incredible people and beautiful memories of that "old school". We’re not saying that every artist and every facet of the soul era was perfect, but the artists’ contributions to soul music and the old school memories of that particular time are PRICELESS.
