Afeni Shakur is the Mother of rapper, Tupac Shakur. She is a very intellectual woman is now a music businesswoman, philanthropist, former political activist and ex-Black Panther of the 60’s and 70’s. In 1971, when Afeni was 8 months pregnant, she was jailed on charges of allegedly conspiring to bomb police stations as a member of the Black Panthers and get this…in the middle of such a racially divided era of the early 70’s, she rejected her right to an attorney (much to the objection of her 20 other Black Panther Party co-defendants) and instead acted as her own defense attorney in court…and she WON!

Sadly, Afeni also became addicted to crack cocaine some years after that, but Tupac said that through it all, she was still a great thinker who taught him a lot about the hardcore truths of the world around him. Afeni’s been clean and sober from crack cocaine for decades now.
