Even though Michele gave a polite reply to Seales’ post, it didn’t sway those who still feel that she is simply trying to play nice with anyone within the Black community and release “pro’Black” songs just to win back their support.

The bright spot for Chrisette, is that although many aren’t rockin with her right now, there are some who have remained loyal to her.

Recap: A Big Mistake

Although Chrisette Michele recently made headlines for defending Tina Campbell’s (of Mary Mary) decision to support and vote for Donald Trump, she’s now admitted that she regrets performing at the inauguration. As we previously reported, during her recent interview with Roland Martin, she opened up about all of the backlash she’s faced.

“I regret everything that happened. I think that was a bad choice.”

However, she didn’t stop there. She also admitted she knew he wasn’t the best presidential candidate but that didn’t stop her from accepting the invitation to perform at his inauguration. She apologized for the decision she made:

“I knew that he wasn’t a good choice for the presidency…but there’s always got to be some sense of hope. That message on the stage was at the wrong time and the wrong place and I apologize deeply for the people that I hurt.”

For most fans, Chrisette’s political stance has been difficult to decipher. When she publicly defended Tina Campbell, who admitted she actually voted for Trump, it was hard to tell whether she was supporting the gospel singer’s right to freedom of speech and expression or defending Trump. But now she’s set the record straight…but there’s one more issue causing all kinds of drama and confusion.

Chrisette Talks About Her Miscarriage Photo

Unfortunately for Chrisette, the criticism didn’t stop with Trump and the inauguration. While attempting to share details about her personal life, she uploaded a questionable photo when she revealed she’d had a miscarriage. For those who missed that, the singer found herself at the center of controversy when fans called her out for posting a photo of someone else’s miscarriage on her Instagram page.

Michele has since removed the post from her Instagram page, but the damage was already done. To many fans, Chrisette’s post was hella offensive and of course, there were quite a few social media users who had no problems dragging her on her own page. Now, The Jasmine Brand reports that she’s finally addressing the situation. When asked about the photo, she admitted it wasn’t hers and explained why she shared it:

“It wasn’t mine. When what was happening to me, was happening to me, I didn’t think to take a photo. But many women did and many women post their photos on different websites to see what’s going on in their body….I wanted people to know the severity of what I experienced so I put something up to show it.”

It’s obvious that things haven’t been easy for Chrisette Michele. Maybe now that she’s owning up to her decisions and/or mistakes, fans might one day give her a second chance. Only time will tell.

She recently faced more backlash after taking to social media to reveal everything she’s lost as a result of the Trump backlash (you can read that here). Then backlash from her miscarriage photo soon came, as well as from her defense of another Trump supporter, Mary Mary gospel singer Tina Campbell.

It was her recent Tina Campbell support that got a reaction outta Martin on Twitter. The two of them had a tense exchange, which ultimately ended with Roland inviting Chrisette on his News One TV One show to discuss it. A few days later, Chrisette has now appeared on his show and because Martin is never one to sugarcoat his questions, he got right down to business. He asked her everything people have been asking Chrisette since the beginning of the drama: Why the hell did she sing for Trump? Why is she still backing her decision? Who told her it was a good idea? Why is sh now defending Tina Campbell’s Trump support? And much more. See the four part interview below:

Part 1: “I Apologize”

First, Roland Martin questioned Chrisette about why she decided to sing for Trump. She pointed out that she is a professional performer and added “that’s how I pay my bills.” She also further explained her point:

“I’ve sang for Barack Obama, I’ve sang for the troops, I’ve sang for the NAACP…”

Chrisette also seemed to have taken ILOSM’s advice (from our previous article), because she finally revealed whether or not she regrets, and is remorseful for, performing for Trump at the inauguration:

Chrisette: “When this [Trump’s win] happened we were all devastated…I didn’t vote for Trump. […] My intention was to bring healing. […] It was the wrong decision, it didn’t do what I wanted it to do…it didn’t heal.” She later said, “I’m sorry for hurting so many people…I am.”

Her husband/manager, Doug “Biggs” Ellison, tried to stop her from taking the Trump gig, but she refused:

Chrisette: “I said ‘No, this is an opportunity…this is a way for me to tell us that we’re gonna be okay’…”

Michele then explained that although it may look like she ‘sold out’ for a Trump check, she still has standards:

Chrisette:”They first asked me to sing the National Anthem, I said ‘Absolutely not’…so it’s not like I don’t stand for anything, when I’m making my choices. But to sing a song about ‘everything’s going to be alright’ and to ‘keep hope alive’…[it] went on deaf ears.”

Roland Martin: First of all…you saw lots of reaction before you took the stage. Jennifer Holliday, she was going to sing. Her audience fired back quickly. She has a significant LGBT audience, they said ‘How dare you.’ She saw the backlash, she pulled out. Did you NOT see that backlash, did you not see what happened to her and say, ‘I might wanna reconsider this’?
Chrisette: “I think when you have a positive message and you’re thinking about uplifting people, you go by any means…you don’t coward down, because my heart was in a place to bring some sort of healing.

When Martin pointed out that most of her fan base (Black women) may still not forgive her, even after watching her interview, Chrisette said this:

“All I can do is apologize. All I can do is say ‘this is where my heart was, this is where my heart is, and still is.’ I have a history of being that girl who goes into scary places and sings about hope. […] So if they don’t accept me for who I am, that’s they’re decision. I’m still gonna be uplifting, I’m still gonna be a positive person. But I understand that people make decisions…and I respect that.”

As we reported recently, the singer shared a photo of what appeared to be blood clots. She captioned it, “I’d cry my way thru workouts. My trainer would cheer me up. God bless him. I pushed so hard and ate so much protein, I scarfed away my hurt.” She also detailed her long menstrual cycles and revealed, “something came out. It was my child. The one my love and I worked so hard on. I never knew I could allow myself to be so broken that my physical body would break down. A miscarriage? Me?”

Unfortunately for Chrisette, it didn’t take long for fans to notice the photo was a repost and quite a few called her out for it, according to Hot New Hip Hop. Many social media users claim the photo was originally posted to the popular baby site, BabyCenter.com, back in 2014, by a user named “tgoood.” Although Chrisette didn’t exactly claim ownership of the photo, she’s still getting the side eye. The photos appear to be identical and fans aren’t letting this one slide. Some fans are even wondering if her latest actions are part of a publicity stunt. In fact, some fans are even urging her to apologize and take the photo down. “If this is a repost of someone else’s miscarriage this is literally despicable. You could’ve been forgiven for singing at the inauguration this is toooooo far. Wow,” a commenter said.

“Posting another person’s photo and using it in a way that misleads your followers into thinking that it is your own is pathetic. You have taken away from what your post should have been focused on because of your deceit. Your credibility is now questionable. There was no need to even post that 2nd pic, but if you are then at least post your own pic and not someone else’s,” another commenter wrote.

“Take it down, apologize, so people can leave u alone,” a third commenter said.

Chrisette Michele has yet to comment about the latest public disaster. But she may wanna jump in the convo’ ASAP to try to straighten this one out.

She then fell largely off the scene for a minute, but lately, she’s been returning to the public eye to speak out about her fight toward rebuilding herself after the Trump inauguration backlash. As we recently reported, Chrisette revealed, in a new Essence interview, that not only did many fans turn on her, so did her family. She also revealed how Trump dissed the hell outta her at the inauguration:

Many have accused her of selling her soul for a Trump check. Chrisette, however, has previously attempted to explain her side- that she performed for Trump to try to bring people together. Now though, she’s revealing even more personal tragedies that happened as a result of her Trump performance…

Not sure what made Chrisette finally reveal these details about her life after the Trump drama. But even though many do not agree with her prior decision to hop on the Tump train, understandably so, it’s still sad to see how much of a toll her decision has taken on her. Many would say that sometimes you gotta learn the hard way, when you’re blinded by dollars and cents. It seems that is unfortunately what Chrisette has had to do.

She never said that she now regrets her decision to perform for Trump though. Chrisette Says Many Have It Wrong About Her

At that time, she also disclosed how Trump dissed her at the inauguration…we’ll get to that in second. But first, Chrisette wants y’all to know how she has fought through her Trump backlash thus far. In a new interview with Billboard, she promoted her new single, “Strong Black Woman,” and addressed the backlash she’s received. Although millions have dragged her online over her decision, Chrisette says they got it wrong and claims that most of her fans aren’t angry with her:

Chrisette: “I’ve never been as strong as I am now […] I remember being petrified to walk onstage for my very first concert after the inauguration, thinking everybody hates me. But I walked out to uproarious applause. I’d do other shows and I’m like confused as to who exactly is upset with me. […] But standing up before those audiences then and believing I had something to share is what got me through and what this record is about.”

“There’s been so many false premises: a lot of people saw the headlines but they didn’t see the actual experience. I also thought I had enough of a track record, that people would know who I was having sung twice for president Barack Obama at the White House, at Democratic conventions and black caucuses. I was incorrect. I also think a lot of people who spoke out [against my performing] like Questlove, somebody with whom I’ve collaborated, were just afraid for me. And I think their fear was warranted. But I also think that part of this was a catalyst for me to learn about other people’s thoughts and experiences. A lot of good conversations happened from this. I don’t know that I ever would have been on CNN, MSNBC or the Breakfast Club [on New York’s Power 105) talking to other people who are devastated about the state of our country. Some Family Members Disowned Her Over Trump

Soon after the Trump inauguration, in January 2017, Chrisette also revealed to Billboard, that some of her family dropped her like a bad habit:

“I’ll say that the backlash, I did personally feel, came from members of my extended family who decided that they didn’t want to speak to me anymore or support my family in supporting me.”

On Jan. 25, India Arie took to Twitter with a link to her open letter about the controversy surrounding Chrisette Michele’s inauguration performance.

By now, we’ve all heard about the heat Chrisette’s been getting for agreeing to perform for Donald Trump. Then, she penned an open letter defending her decision, created even more turmoil. Now, India Arie is sharing her opinion. She insists she stands for love and advised everyone to use their energy on the “highest good”…

India Arie went on to admit she wouldn’t have personally accepted Donald Trump’s invitation to perform, but feels Chrisette Michele shouldn’t be ridiculed for her choice. In a nutshell, India Arie is pushing her message that it is  okay to “agree to disagree.”

Arie wrote “Do I agree with her performing at the inauguration? NO. I would have NEVER done it. For any price, under any circumstance. but thats ME. […] Do I agree with her having the CHOICE? YES. Do I think I understand the nuance that went into her decision? NO!!”

“Life is NUANCED, and before you straight up attack someone who, heretofore had been a gifted, talented, respectful, at LEAST, entertaining part of your world, – give them a chance to be human, complex, sometimes contradictory, … you know.. HUMAN,” she added.

Although Arie may have aspired to take the high road with her open letter, many folks on social media just ain’t trying to hear that. In fact, she is now being dragged for her opinion. Like many other performers, Chrisette Michele found herself at the center of controversy when news about the performance made headlines. As expected, many have dragged her for deciding to perform for a president-elect who’s widely known for his alleged regard, or lack thereof, for African-Americans, immigrants, and other minorities. Now, the singer has written an open letter explaining her decision.

Her Response:

According to Billboard, Chrisette Michele penned the open later and published it on her blog. The singer spoke of serving as a “bridge” for the people and being a “voice for the voiceless.”

Here’s the full letter:

“My heart is broken for our country, for the hopes of our children, for the fights of those who came before us. I cry at the thought that Black History, American History might be in vain. This country has had great moments. God has shined His light upon us.

Today, I hope that Great Moments begin in peaceful & progressive conversation. I am willing to be a bridge. I don’t mind “These Stones”, if they allow me to be a voice for the voiceless. I am here. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Our lives begin to end, the day we become silent about what matters,”. I am here, representing you, because this is what matters.”

Hard Backlash:

Although Chrisette Michele opted to offer an explanation for her performance, fans aren’t here for the explanations. Most unfazed social media users and some celebrities wasted no time expressing disdain over the performance. But, it gets worse. Spike Lee has also showed Chrisette just how real it’s about to get. The famed director/producer/activist just canceled the singer in a major way. For those who don’t know, Chrisette’s song, “Black Girl Magic,” was set to be used in Spike’s upcoming Netflix remake of She’s Gotta Have It. Now, he’s made it clear the song won’t be featured, reports The Root. He even took to Instagram with his decision.
