‘I Was Broken’: Michelle Williams Details Her Breakdown & Depression After Split From Fiancé

Destiny’s Child is one of the most successful girl groups of all time. As y’all already know, after the group disbanded, its members, Beyonce’ Knowles-Carter, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams, have all gone on to have prosperous careers, though there have been hard times as well. For instance, Williams has been very open about her struggles with depression and in a recent interview, she’s revealing even more.

Roller Coaster Ride Of Success

Many will remember when Destiny’s Child flipped the script, by replacing original members, LeToya Luckett and Latavia Roberson, in the video for “Say My Name” in 1999.

Though fans were initially clutchin’ their pearls over the sudden switch up- especially after then new member, Farrah Franklin, was ejected months later- Williams fit in perfectly. After DC’s breakup, Williams went on to do theater and continue singing. When she recently announced her engagement to Chad Johnson, it appeared her life was coming full circle. Unfortunately, things began to fall apart and last year we reported about her progress, after checking into a facility to deal with her depression. At that time, she shared a message to her fans, stating in part:

“For years I have dedicated myself to increasing awareness of mental health and empowering people to recognize when it’s time to seek help, support and guidance from those that love and care for your well being.” She continued, “I recently listened to the same advice I have given to thousands around the world and sought help from a great team of healthcare professionals.”

Little did the world know, things got far worse for Michelle, after she and Johnson ended their engagement. Now, she’s ready to open up about all of the previously unknown trials she’s endured and how where she is today.

Michelle Williams Gives Update From Mental Facility, Destiny’s Child Shows Her Birthday Love

Destiny’s Child singer, Michelle Williams, turned 38 years old on Monday, July 23rd. She presumably spent her b-day inside of the mental health facility, where she’s been receiving treatment for about the past week or so. As she continues to heal herself from extreme depression and any other mental health issue plaguing her at this time, her group members didn’t forget about her birthday.

On Monday, Kelly Rowland posted a cool birthday message for Michelle. She even included a lil’ dancing with it:

Michelle Gives Update On Her Mental Health Treatment

On Sunday, Michelle Williams took to social media to let her fans know that everything is all good with her mental health treatment thus far:

“I feel the [love]! I just wanted to let you guys know I’m better,” she wrote on Instagram, along with a pair of ‘praying hands’ emoji. Then Michelle eventually shared the same message on Twitter, adding that “Progress not Perfection! ❤️.”

When one of the original Destiny’s Child members, LaTavia Roberson, was kicked outta the group, it was shocking, devastating, and heartbreaking for her at that time. She and Latoya Luckett were replaced by Michelle Williams and Farrah Franklin and DC continued on toward even greater success (well, minus Farrah). Although the split was painful, on Tuesday, July 17 (2018), LaTavia surprised many with her reaction to Michelle’s recent mental health admission.

As fans are continuing to send well wishes to Michelle online, Latavia Roberson, is proving that she’s a woman of character and sincerity. She, too, commented online, commending Michelle on her bravery:

That was big of LaTavia, because as recently as 2016, she revealed that she was still distraught over being kicked out of Destiny’s Child. Beyonce’s dad/Destiny’s Child’s manager, Mathew Knowles, kicked LaTavia and Letoya out in 2000, over reported friction among them. Here’s what LaTavia said in 2016 to People Magazine:

Latavia: “I never left Destiny’s Child. That is something that people say. But who would leave Destiny’s Child? That’s crazy! I was dismissed from the group,” she says. “It was very difficult because of the way that I found out about it. I hate even talking about it, and it’s been 20 years — but it is what it is. We saw the ‘Say My Name’ video on TV, and that’s how I found out I was no longer in the group.”

Destiny Child’s, Michelle Williams, Is Prioritizing Her Mental Health:

Michelle Williams, of Destiny’s Child, is leading by example, as she’s just checked herself into a mental health facility to address her struggles with depression. The R&B star-turned gospel singer -who has been open about her struggles with depression in the past- took to Instagram to share with her followers about her decisions to put her mental health first:

“For years I have dedicated myself to increasing awareness of mental health and empowering people to recognize when it’s time to seek help, support and guidance from those that love and care for your well being.” She continued, “I recently listened to the same advice I have given to thousands around the world and sought help from a great team of healthcare professionals. Today I proudly, happily and healthily stand here as someone who will continue to always lead by example as I tirelessly advocate for betterment of those in need.”

According to reports, Williams is getting treated in a facility just outside of Los Angeles and has been there for the past several days.

In October 2017, Williams also bravely discussed her struggles with depression on “The Talk” daytime talk show. She candidly shared that she unknowingly began struggling with depression in her early teen years and it continued throughout adulthood. She also revealed that her depression was due to unresolved childhood trauma, which she didn’t go into detail about.

“So many people are walking around acting like they’ve got it all together and they are suffering,” Michelle Williams told the ‘The Talk’ hosts.

While Rising To Fame, Michelle Williams Often Had Thoughts Of Suicide:

In the early 2000’s, Michelle joined Destiny’s Child. She achieved major success and became a household name, singing alongside group members, Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland. While she was thankful for the opportunity, Williams says she still struggled with being happy, contemplated suicide, and even wanted out of the group at one point. At that time, Mathew Knowles, Beyoncé’s father and DC’s manager, couldn’t understand Williams’ depression. In all fairness to Mathew, Williams admitted that she, too, didn’t understand how to classify her condition:

“I’m in one of the top-selling female groups of all time, suffering with depression,” Williams explained on ‘The Talk.’ “When I disclosed it to our manager [Mathew Knowles, Beyoncé’s father] at the time, bless his heart, he was like, ‘You all just signed a multi-million dollar deal. You’re about to go on tour. What do you have to be depressed about?’ I think at the age of 25, had I had a name to what I was feeling at the time, I would have disclosed that ‘I’ve been suffering from depression,” Williams said. “I didn’t know, until I was in my 30s, what was going on; I thought it was growing pains. I just thought, ‘I’m just turning into a woman’…so I’ve been suffering since between the age of 13 to 15.”

Civil Rights Activist Makes Another Bold Harsh Claim About Michelle Williams’ New Fiancee

Michelle Williams’ fiance Pastor Chad Johnson is in the hot seat yet again. By now, everyone has probably heard the rumors about Chad’s conflicting beliefs, but if you haven’t heard everything, it’s definitely a lot to process. Now, civil rights activist Tariq Nasheed is back again with more bold claims about Chad. Last week, Tariq took to Twitter to expose the Elevate International pastor’s political beliefs. Now, this week he’s taken to YouTube with another jaw-dropping claim.

White Supremacist Or Nah?:

According to EurWeb, Tariq’s latest hour-long YouTube video touches on a number of controversial topics in the media right now. From the Waffle House shooting in Nashville TN, to more claims about Chad, Tariq has quite a bit to say. Of course, he still believes Chad’s support of Donald Trump and Blue Lives Matter insinuates a seemingly warped view of race relations and politics. In a nutshell, Tariq doesn’t see how it’s possible for Chad to marry an African-American woman with his beliefs and he’s urging the Destiny’s Child singer to really think about how their differences could cause conflicts later on down the line.

However, now Tariq is going a bit further with his opinion of Chad. Now, he argues that Chad may be a white supremacist. Although he admitted that Chad has “a little swag,” considering the way he dresses, Tariq clarified that Chad is “not black whatsoever” and that despite hanging around “a few” black people, Pastor Chad Johnson is a White dude. He even offered a few photos of the Johnson family to support his arguments and clear up the confusion. After seeing tons of posts about Chad and Michelle, Tariq claims he saw something that raised a red flag. Apparently, there was a video where Chad was playing with Michelle’s braids. However, the post with that video has mysteriously disappeared from Chad’s Instagram account amid all the controversy. Tariq claims the video, which he described as passive-aggressive behavior, is why he decided to do a little research on Chad. He actually compared Chad to the Waffle House shooter, Travis Reinking, also said to be a white supremacist.

Tariq’s Arguments:

Surprisingly, many viewers admitted they aren’t so sure about Chad, after listening to Tariq’s arguments. The civil rights activist also noted that although Chad is surrounded by African-Americans on his social media pages, he’s rarely ever photographed with his family. Another conflict Tariq noted, was Chad’s affiliation with the NFL. Although Chad is an NFL chaplain, with African-American friends, his entire family was against Colin Kaepernick, taking to Facebook with photograph filters to bash the National Anthem protests. In a nutshell, Tariq wants people to pay attention to what Chad’s not saying, as opposed to what he’s saying. In the video above, Tariq offered tons of receipts about the situation. Michelle & Her Fiancee, Chad, Respond:

Shortly after being attacked by Tariq, Chad took to Instagram with a subliminal post about the situation, describing the claims as “lies.” However, he never pointed out what the lies were. Then, Michelle chimed in to support her man.

Tariq continued with another scary scenario, regarding Pastor Chad Johnson’s mentoring of African-American youth. He offered footage of young folks with Chad and highlighted what the children are being taught under his leadership. Tariq claims Chad is basically brainwashing our youth into respecting law enforcement agencies that have been infiltrated by white supremacists. In other words, the same KKK members who wore masks in the 1950s are now the ones in blue, according to Tariq. The civil rights star is urging Michelle to really take a look at the family she’s marrying into, but despite all the allegations, Michelle is standing by her man. As we previously reported, Michelle responded to the backlash with this online message,“Love wins!!! This will work out for our good!!! Romans 8:28.” Chad has yet to respond to the latest claims. Michelle Williams Reveals Wanting To Kill Herself In Destiny’s Child &How Bey’s Dad Reacted

Destiny Child’s singer-turned gospel artist, Michelle Williams, has had somewhat of a ‘Cinderella story,’ in regards to her music career…or so it seemed. When Michelle joined Destiny’s Child in early 2000, she went from literal obscurity, to mega-superstar quicker than we can say “I’m a survivor” twice. That’s because when Michelle (along with Farrah Franklin) replaced LaTavia Roberson and LeToya Luckett- after Beyonce’s dad/DC’s then manager kicked them out- she joined an already superstar R&B group. She’d become thrust into the spotlight and in many ways, the shadows. of the already known Beyonce’ Knowles and Kelly Rowland. She was also in the lingering ‘shadows’ of LaTavia and LeToya.

Even though her new role was a major weight to carry, Michelle didn’t fold under the pressure and was ultimately able to carve her own space out within the group.

Tens of millions of records and several years later, Michelle has just gone into further detail of the suicidal thoughts (which she originally revealed a few years ago) in her October 18th (2017) co-hosting gig on The Talk daytime talk show. She laid it all out about why she’s now decided to speak on the suicidal tendencies she had when Destiny’s Child was at the height of their careers.

“I think at the age of 25, had I had a name to what I was feeling at the time, I would have disclosed that, ‘I’ve been suffering from depression,'” Williams told The Talk co-hosts. “I didn’t know until I was in my 30s what was going on. I just thought it was growing pains. I just thought, ‘I’m turning into a woman.’ So I’ve been suffering since the age between 13 and 15. Like I said, at that age, I didn’t know what to call it.”

Matthew Knowles Had Tough Time Understanding Her Depression

She also said that although Matthew didn’t understand why she was appearing to be so “ungrateful” about all her blessings, with the success of the group, his intentions were good. So she in no way blames him for his misunderstanding.

What Caused Her Depression?

When asked what caused her depression, Michelle said:

“Well I will just say…it was some things that I had so growing up. I internalized everything, I didn’t have an outlet…”

In efforts to help others struggling with depression, Michelle says, “I want to normalize this mental health discussion,” by publicly demystifying the topic. After disclosing her past struggles on the show, Michelle then gave props to multiplatinum selling pop star, Demi Lovato, for recently detailing her struggles with depression and drug dependency in a new Youtube documentary.

It was actually Chad who put he and Michelle’s love on full display on Instagram earlier today (Monday, July 10, 2017), and Michelle co-signed it in his comments. He posted a pic of he and Michelle on a yacht together celebrating his birthday over the weekend, with the caption:

She is special!!! And in her words …… “I’m all the way here for it!” #40for40 🙏🏽🙏🏽

Michelle responded with hearts and praying hands emojis.

As soon as Chad posted that photo, the preacher who some ladies have probably been trying to discreetly get with ‘in the name of Jesus’ of course- was getting much love online for finding a great woman like Michelle. Michelle also received much love. Even the ex’s Destiny’s Child singer- whom Michelle replaced in the group- Letoya Luckett, showed the happy couple love in the comments:

The reason people are probably so happy for them is because typically, Michelle has been the DC member the world knows the least about- from a personal standpoint. So to see her go public with anyone is a plus for her fans. She clearly takes great steps to guard her dating life though, and that’s understandable, because in the world of entertainment, things like that can get exaggerated from level zero to 100 real quick.

Wow, it was just over 10 years ago when Michelle Williams hit the floor while performing on BET’s 106 & Park. No, it’s not hitting the floor like you think, we mean she literally hit the floor! While performing “Soldier” with Destiny’s Child she can be seen and heard falling down while Kelly and Beyonce didn’t miss a beat, and although that was 10 years ago, Williams is still defending her performance skills. Now just last Sunday, during Superbowl 50, Beyonce took a slight fall, but everyone was like YASSS Bey!

Radio personality Charlamagne Tha God posted a clip of the video from 2004 of Williams falling today on Twitter, saying, “I love @RealMichelleW with all my heart but this is forever funny. You see how Jesus got her right back up tho??” Check out the tweet where Michelle acknowledges her fall and responds back to Charlamagne about it.
