Whenever most of us think about the iconic singing/songwriting soul duo, Ashford & Simpson, we instantly feel like singing one of their classic lines, like, “And now it’s solid! Solid as a ROCK! That’s what this love is…” and the countless other FIRE songs they pumped out through the years. Meet The Ashford & Simpson Children

Throughout the years, some of us have seen pics of Asia Ashford (34) and Nicole Ashford (46), as children and teens, but they sort of stepped away from the spotlight as they became adults.

These days, the ladies are continuing their parents’ legacy by running their parents’ legendary restaurant/bar called, Sugar Bar, located in Manhattan, NY. Many fans and celebs alike oftentimes frequent the spot that Nick and Valerie started. Also, when Valerie’s not working, the 74 year old music legend is reportedly very hands on with Sugar Bar as well.

It’s been nearly 10 years since we lost music legend, Nickolas Ashford, to complications from his throat cancer treatment in August 2011. He was 70 years young and just like his wife, Valerie Simpson, was extremely close to their daughters. DAUGHTER PAYS TRIBUTE TO ASHFORD & SIMPSON

Both of their daughters oftentimes pay homage to their parents, much like Asia did with the below photo of their late father, Nickolas “Nick” Ashford, as she celebrated him on August 22, 2020 — the 9th anniversary of his passing…

Asia Ashford captioned the above photo with:

Today, Valerie Simpson is doing her part to make sure she, too, continues to build the legacy of Ashford & Simpson. She recently starred in the popular Broadway musical, “Chicago,” and is beyond excited for the opportunity. Her husband, Nick, would be so proud of her and their daughters for being the strong ambitious women they are. Rest on Nick Ashford.

But uhh…it has just come to our attention, that folks all over the internet have been getting a chuckle outta the mix-up that is showing when you search “Chaka Khan’s net worth” on Google. Here is what you’ll get…

As you can see, somebody believes the late, great R&B legend, Nick Ashford (of Ashford & Simpson) and Chaka Khan are one in the same! Granted, they’ve both cranked out some timeless classic songs in the ’70s and ’80s…but their physical appearances are far from similar. Sure, Nick always rocked his signature long permed hair and Chaka’s known for her long hair as well, but that’s where the similarities end. Given the nearly 1 foot height difference between them, the facial hair inconsistencies, and obvious gender difference, someone deserves to be called out for this hilarious discrepancy, to say the least. And that’s exactly what the internet is doing. It got so bad, that even ’80s singer, Boy George, jumped in it…

Listen, as an online publication, we understand all too well that sometimes slip ups happen. There are minor slip ups- typos, etc.; then there are major ones- like confusing a 5’4″ Black singer with a 6’2″ male R&B crooner with long tresses. Nonetheless though, the latter is funny as hell and the up side for Google is that they gave folks a good laugh today.

Apparently, this Nick Ashford-Chaka Khan mix up has been up for days now, so it doesn’t look like anyone’s rushing to fix this anytime soon. Therefore, let the laughs continue…until Google fixes this mess, or Chaka’s team contacts them demanding it be corrected.

Meanwhile Back At The Ranch…She’s Redeemed

Meanwhile, Chaka Khan has now redeemed herself, following her unfortunate incident in March 2018. As we previously reported, many fans dragged Chaka “through the fire,” on social media, after she performed at the 2018 Jazz At The Gardens in Miami, FL, seemingly high or drunk, according to concert goers. Video surfaced of the melee and many fans walked out of the show, while Chaka was still performing and her background singers were picking up the slack for her. It was a sad sight to see and we all hoped that Chaka had not had another relapse into her prior drug struggles.

Days later, Chaka’s team released a statement explaining her issue that night. They claimed that despite slurring her words, barely moving, barely singing, and forgetting her lyrics that night, Chaka wasn’t high, nor inebriated, but she was battling the flu.

Of course many fans didn’t believe ‘the flu’ excuse, but the good news is that Chaka has been back on stage, singing like her usual self again and hasn’t received another bad review from fans yet.

In the past, she’s made her on again-off again struggles with drug addiction no secret and is known for keepin’ it real about her afflictions. Hopefully, Chaka has been able to maintain her path of sobriety. That isn’t always easy, but she’s a strong woman, so we have faith in her on this one.

Kandi Makes Way For The “Solid” Legend

Not only did Simpson’s new gig surprise many of her fans, who mainly know her as an R&B music legend, but when they learned she was actually replacing a popular singer/reality star who’s 3 decades younger, they were also impressed.

Xscape singer/”Real Housewives of Atlanta” star, Kandi Burruss, starred in the stage play for a minute as “Mama Morton,” just before handing that title to the queen herself, Valerie Simpson.

In fact, as Kandi was performing her last shows with “Chicago Musical,” she posted the above photo of her and Valerie on Instagram. The legend went to watch Kandi and the rest of the cast in action, just before it was her time to take center stage.

The reason many are impressed by Valerie’s new venture, is because not only is she still making new strides in her career at 71, she’s also coming behind a quote-unquote “current” star, Kandi. Granted, Kandi Burruss’ musical accomplishments doesn’t come close to that of Valerie Simpson’s, who helped pave the way for artists, like Kandi, to follow. However, the pressure was on for Valerie’s Broadway debut, because in today’s entertainment/social media climate, Kandi is a big crowd drawer and therefore, tough act to come behind. Regardless of that fact though, word on the Old School curb is that Valerie Simpson stepped onto that “Chicago Musical” Broadway stage and set it OFF!

“Set It Off Actor” Is Her Co-Star

Speaking of “Set It Off,” guess who Simpson’s new “Chicago Musical” co-star is? None other than “Set It Off” actor, Chaz Lamar. Remember him? You may not recall Chaz’s real name, but if you’ve seen that classic 90’s film, you definitely remember his face. Who could forget, the cat who played “Stony’s” (Jada Pinkett-Smith) lil’ brother that had all of us tearing up when a trigger-happy cop shot him outside that apartment complex?

Well, unbeknownst to many, the brotha can not only act, but he can sing, which is why he was able to land the role in a classic musical, like “Chicago Musical.”

As we reported a while back, here’s what else Chaz has been up to since many of us last saw him in “Set It Off”:
Chaz Lamar (also known as Chaz Shepherd) is a professional R&B singer. Who knew, right? This dude doesn’t just sing, he SANGS. FYI: that’s not a typo…he really is a SANGIN’ somebody! Chaz performs regularly and he once released an album titled, “Love & Truth.” He’s also performed in other Broadway productions, including “The Color Purple” and the musical, “Dreamgirls.” Check out his music videos and performances below…
