These three siblings are the children of a singer who is considered a legend in the music world. She comes from a very musical family and if you’re a fan of old school R&B, you definitely know who she is. Many of her fans probably never knew she had kids, because she’s mostly kept her personal life private, until recent years. Before we get into who their gorgeous Mom is though, let us tell you a lil’ bit about her kids, Chaz, Carl, and Camille.

Chaz travels often with his Mother, who still does her thing on stage to this day. He’s chosen a different path in music from his mom, by working in the background in several capacities, including as a music producer for some of his mother’s projects.

Camille is a singer with a beautiful voice. She is an incredible performer as well and seems to be well versed in R&B, jazz, and hip hop. Based on the videos we’ve seen of her performances, she brings heat in all three of those areas both on stage and in the booth. Camille also performs with her Mother sometimes. Camille actually is one of the additional members of Sister Sledge. Although she has her own projects in the works, she sometimes performs with Sister Sledge when one of the other original members is not performing for a particular show date. Mommy-hood is Camille’s title these days as well…she’s raising her two toddlers- a son and a daughter.

Not too much is known about their brother, Carl, other than the fact that he- just like his siblings -is very close to his Mother and his fam.’

THEIR GORGEOUS R&B MOMMY IS …

Their mother is the beautiful 66-year-old Debbie Sledge, of Sister Sledge.

As most of us know, in recent years, Debbie endured one of the most painful heartbreaks of her life, along with her Sister Sledge sisters, Kathy and Kim Sledge. Our continued condolences go out to the entire Sledge family after losing their loved one/Sister Sledge singer, Joni Sledge, who passed away suddenly at the age of 60 on March 10th, 2017.

Debbie and Kim Sledge, have continued to push through their pain and perform for their prescheduled dates that were booked prior to Joni’s passing.

Although it’s tough, the sisters revealed that it’s somewhat therapeutic because it’s their way of honoring Joni, who performed with her sisters up until her passing.

Who’s His Mother?

Sing it with now: “We are family, I got all my sisters wth me!!!” His name is Phil Lightfoot Jr. and his moms is none other than the legendary Kathy Sledge-former lead singer of the infamous Sister Sledge! Who would’ve thought, right?!!

Phil is the product of Kathy’s and her husband, Phil Sr.’s, decades-long marriage. The two have been married since 1981.

These days, their son, Phil Jr., is a personal trainer and specializes in using boxing techniques during his training sessions. His mother expressed how proud she was of her not-so-baby-baby boy in an online post for his birthday on January 10, 2018:

Happy Birthday…!! You are a rock,pillar and joy to all of us! …so proud how we’ve all watched you grow your company, continually change lives,and keep spirits lifted all the while. It’s unclear how old Phil Jr. is, but what we do know though, is that his mother is making 59 look like the new 29 and the family that works out together, stays together…at least when it comes to Kathy and Phil Jr. For example, THIS is what slayin’ at 59 looks like, when you’re a gym lover like Kathy Sledge…

Apparently, Phil Jr., is a private dude, who shies away from the public limelight, unlike his famous mom and aunts. But y’all already know we did a lil’ diggin’ on the brotha and came across a few fun facts about him.
1. His love for fitness was instilled in him by his mother:

“She had me active in the gym since I was 2 years old rolling on matts and doing little simple obstacle courses and eating healthy. Growing up watching her teach prompted me to get in the fitness field,” said Phil Jr.

2. His specialty:

“‘The sweet science’ of boxing Technique and conditioning. Anaerobic strength and endurance functional fitness training, and mitt work.”

3. He hopes to make lives better through his work:

“Boxing/Boxing conditioning is a fun and challenging activity that can be simplified for a beginner and advanced for the elite. Anybody can participate in the sport weather for completion or just for a great workout. The nature of it expends a lot of energy that can be therapeutic and stress relieving. I utilize my fitness training with the principals of boxing to help clients physically with weight management and strength, and mentally with self esteem and confidence .I want to motivate those who need an extra push, and make sure that people get the results they want and need for the better.”

It’s always a beautiful thing to see the offspring of legends, carving their own lane in this world and making their parents proud.

On March 10, 2017, Joni was found deceased by a friend, inside of her Arizona home, at the age of 60. Her death came as a shock to her family and fans, because Joni appeared to be in such great health and full of life.

Kim Sledge On Joni’s Cause of Death

Kim Sledge, one-fourth of Sister Sledge, recently did an interview with Daily News and revealed that Joni passed away of natural causes and that there was no foul play into her death:

Via Daily News: Kim Sledge said the family is getting by “moment by moment. We believe that God just took her [Joni Sledge] home. She led a good clean life. It was natural causes,” she said. “She and my mom were very close, and we lost my mom to an aneurysm several years ago. I think it was just Joni’s time to go too,” she said. “She’s with our mom, and we feel the peace of that.”

Kim Sledge Describes Joni’s Last Days- Easy Bake Ovens & New Music

Kim said her sister was “full of life” and working on new music as recently as two weeks ago.

“She just left the studio days before she passed. She was in Nashville finishing up new mixes,” Kim said. On a conference call with their eldest sister Debbie earlier this month, Joni had them laughing about their lives growing up in Philadelphia, Kim said. “We were talking about our Easy-Bake oven and making the little cakes that our dog ate,” she said. “She was such a funny person.”

The Show Must Go On

Although Kim said Joni’s passing “was a shock to all of us,” she and her sister felt that the show must go on. In honor of Joni Sledge, her sisters, Debbie and Kim, performed eight days later (3-18-17) at Cypress Bayou Casino in Charenton, LA, for a show the three of them were already contracted for. A the time of her interview, Kim described the [then] upcoming performance as “bittersweet:”

“We know she’ll be on that stage with us. We really are that close,” Kim, 59, said. “I’m actually kind of relieved. It will be good to sing because singing is something we do that’s healing. We can sing her favorites. We might even sing some new material she wrote. I think it’s just going to be a concert where we love on each other.”

Bicoastal/International Funeral Services For Joni Sledge

On Tuesday (3-21), Kim said the Sledge family returned to Phoenix, AZ for a service. But then they are heading to their hometown of Philadelphia for a second memorial service, where Joni will be “laid to rest with our mom, aunts and uncles in the Philadelphia area,” said Kim. According to PhillyTribe, the Philly service ‘will be held Saturday (3-25-17) at 9 a.m. at Deliverance Evangelistic Church, 2001 W. Lehigh Ave. Burial is in Ivy Hill Cemetery.’

Kim also told News Daily that there may be a third memorial service for Joni in Britain:

“The UK was another place she loved. She was a world traveler who embraced all cultures and all people. She spoke French fluently. She was just an exceptional, effervescent person,” Kim said.

Death isn’t always meant for us to understand, so it’s oftentimes difficult to process why some of us have to leave depart much sooner than others. Joni Sledge’s passing is still shocking for that reason, but her son, family, and fans have beautiful music, moments and memories to remember her by. Kathy Explained The Decades Long Drama

As we previously reported, Kathy has been beefing with her three sisters for almost three decades. The family feud kicked off when Kathy informed her three sisters that she wanted to go solo in 1989, and according to an interview Kathy did with Yahoo, she said:

“They said: ‘If you do it [go solo], you gotta leave.’ They went out as a group on their own, and they had a photo shoot and didn’t invite me. And that hurt,” explained Kathy.

As we, Sister Sledge fans, continue to mourn the loss of member, Joni Sledge (60), and attempt process her sudden death on Friday, March 10th (2017), we are learning a few more details about the “We Are Family” singer. As we learn info either about what caused Joni’s passing, or little known facts about her legacy and life we’ll share those with you all.

Today we’re introducing Joni’s adult son, Thaddeus, whom most of her fans never knew she had.

Sister Sledge was still a very active group and made their presence known in the media and on social media to this very day. But when it comes to their individual lives, each of the sisters have different temperaments in terms of what they share with the public.

Joni Sledge leaned more toward the private side when it came to her personal life, although we’re not quite sure if that was less of a privacy thing and more of an old school way of doing things.

Many of us can relate to that- we know all too well that we have relatives who prefer to socialize the old school way- in person; and capture/celebrate their personal memories the same way we did most of our lives- by snapping photos, printing them out, and saving them in our family photo albums. That thought brings us back to the beloved Joni Sledge and her son…

Joni didn’t have social media pages, where she shared bits of her life and that’s why many fans never knew about her adult son…until now. Although Thaddeus does, however, use social media, the family connection was never made because his last name is not Sledge.

That sister is Kathy Sledge, the one who sang lead in their most popular hit, “We Are Family.”
Sister Sledge is included in a line-up of several heavy hitter performers, including Aretha Franklin, for the Pope’s appearance at the World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia on Saturday (9-26).
Some sources have reported that Kathy isn’t tryin’ to hear that and is determined to step on that stage and get her sing-on by any means necessary, so we shall see once the concert starts tomorrow.

The other three siblings, Joni, Kim, and Debbie allegedly don’t want Kathy anywhere near the stage when they touch it because they’ve been having issues with her periodically ever since 1989.

You see, the family feud kicked off when Kathy informed them that she wanted to go solo in ’89, and according to an interview Kathy did with Yahoo, she said “They said: ‘If you do it [go solo], you gotta leave.’ They went out as a group on their own, and they had a photo shoot and didn’t invite me. And that hurt.”

Kathy also said that the tension between she and her sisters took an even greater turn for the worse when they slapped her with a lawsuit in 2013. She said “They tried to make it so that I wasn’t allowed to say I’m of Sister Sledge or from Sister Sledge. They thought it was a conflict.”

After spending a whopping $80,000 on the legal process, they settled the suit out of court.

Kathy revealed that she doesn’t speak to her sisters anymore and she doesn’t even see them on Christmas, which apparently used to be a definite time they would all see each other.

So as it stands right now, only three out of the four sisters will be hitting the stage for the Pope on Saturday…unless Kathy decides to give them an unwanted surprise.

Hopefully everything turns out okay with these siblings, because we’re sure they love each other to the core, but it just seems that right now they don’t necessarily like each other…well, they don’t necessarily like Kathy and vice versa. It would be great to see all four of them on that stage together again though, so we’ll keep you posted on this and in the meantime we’ll keep our fingers crossed…but we won’t be holding our breathe for this reunion.

Kathy Sledge of Sister Sledge has been a very beautiful woman ever since she and her sisters hit the music scene with “We Are Family” in 1979. Well, Kathy wasn’t actually a woman when they first started out, she was just a 15 year old teenager with a woman’s voice, but she’s all woman now though – 51 years young to be exact, and she’s looking more like 31. 

We were looking at some recent pics of Kathy recently, here at ILoveOldSchoolMusic.com, and we were not only trippin’ over how fine Ms. Sledge still is, when we saw her daughter we were all like ‘Woah!’ Her daughter is Kathy, all over again! Scroll down to see what we mean.

Meet Kathy Sledge’s Daughter, Kristen

Do y’all see this?!! She’s like Kathy Sledge’s clone or something…absolutely beautiful.

Kathy’s daughter, Kristen Lightfoot, is also a singer who performs with her mother frequently. As a matter of fact, Kathy is now doing the same thing for her daughter that her mother, the late Florez Sledge did for her and her sisters, Sister Sedge, back in the day – she’s managing her daughter’s career.

Kathy’s mom used to drive her, and the rest of  Sister Sledge, around in a old model station wagon to get her girls the exposure they needed and she propelled their singing careers into the “We Are Family” success that we all love to this day. Kathy is hoping to take her daughter even farther than that.

Although Kathy has admitted to some sources that “Sometimes I look up to the heavens and go ‘Mom how’d you do this?'” But overall she seems to be having a beautiful experiencing watching her daughter (and her son) blossom while also learning the ends and outs of the music biz.

Kristen’s dad is Phil Lightfoot Sr., whom has been married to her mom, Kathy, for years now and they also have a son, Phil Lightfoot Jr., together.

Kathy Sledge is currently performing and recently did a tour with Jody Watley and others.  Below is a recent pic from their show that Kathy posted to her Instagram page:

That apple sure didn’t fall far from the tree with these two. Like mother, like daughter and both of them are just like the Old School saying goes, ‘Fine as wine and only getting better with time.’ Go ‘head Mrs. Sledge!
