Glodean was married to Barry White for 29 years (1974-2003) and she was one his Love Unlimited backup singers. She’s his second-wife and the former step-mother of Darryl.

It’s just been reported that Darryl has filed a lawsuit against Glodean, because he says that he is almost homeless as a result of her having cut him off financially ever since 2015.

Via TMZ: Barry White’s son is almost broke and nearly homeless … and he claims it’s all because he’s getting the raw end of the deal from his father’s trust. Darryl says Glodean never let him see the will after Barry died in 2003, instead it was more like … trust me.

In docs, obtained by TMZ, he says he agreed and got payments up until September 2015. Darryl, who’s a singer himself, believes Glodean is using up his father’s dough to support her lavish lifestyle. He was suing to finally get a look at the will, and a proper accounting of what he’s due.

Hopefully their legal battle was resolved amicably in the end.

Back in the day, Barry White was the one makin’ all the women swoon with his baritone voice. His smooth R&B sound is also appreciated by the fellas because his music helps them set the right mood with their ladies. Back in the day, kids and men alike wanted to be cool like ‘the Maestro, himself, but, nowadays, there’s another member of his family capturing the hearts of fans everywhere – namely the fellas. That member is is grandbaby, Brittany Glodean.

Brittany is following her musical dream to one day take the music world by storm. She’s a beautiful red-head, with a killer smile and the curves to match. The 23-year-old songstress is the daughter of Bridgette White Hancock and of course and her grandparents are Barry and Glodean White. As you can see, Brittany was partly names after her grandma Glodean, who was Barry’s wife of several decades (up until his death) and his former Love Unlimited backup singer.

Brittany Glodean On How Barry & Glodean White Influenced Her

At a very young age, Brittany knew music would be a major part of her life. During an interview with Splash magazine, she explained how her grandparents’ legacy influenced her love for music. When asked about her musical career and her grandparents, she said, “their [Barry and Glodean White] legacy has definitely had a HUGE influence on my music, growing up I watched how hard they worked to be at such a successful place. I learned to take my career seriously and put everything into it because at the end of the day what you put in is what you get back!”

She continued, “They have always given me advice on simple things from how to stay on your note harmonizing to how to be a strong performer which has come from their experiences so in a sense all that I have become has been a reflection of their advice and motivation. And I am so grateful for that and continue to learn something new from them each day, each song, each show!”

Of course, everyone knows about Barry’s musical success, but Glodean also did her thing. She was a talented singer with the musical trio Love Unlimited. The three women sang backup for Barry and in 1981, she and Barry released their collaboration titled, Barry & Glodean.

Although the “Practice What You Preach” crooner and Glodean had separated many years prior to his passing, they never divorced. Barry has a total of 6 children- two with Glodean and 4 from a previous marriage and another relationship.

He and Glodean’s two daughters- Shaherah (40) and Bridgette White (50)- are the topic of this discussion.

Those two lovely ladies are very close to their Mother and have had the privilege of even singing with her sometimes as part of the revised Love Unlimited Trio. The original 70’s trio included Glodean; her sister, Linda James; and their cousin, Diane Taylor.

Not only have the two White sisters made their parents proud by following in the footsteps of their soulful legacy, they’ve blessed them with four wonderful grandbabies. Shaherah has one and Bridgett has three kids. The thing that some were pretty surprise to find out is that their children are biracial and are product of their interracial relationships. The thing that came to mind when checking out Barry Whites’s fam’ is that his daughters have combined two significant elements of their parents’ musical legacies- They’re ‘practicing what Barry preached’ by displaying -through their marriages and children- that ‘love is in fact, unlimited.’

The late, great “Maestro,” Barry White, accomplished some great feats in the music industry. He sold over 100 million records in his lifetime. However, before he saw any parts of the glitz and glamour of fame, he and his brother were living a street life similar to the one Randy Crawford sang about in ’79.

Barry White admitted that while growing up in a hood of South Central, L.A., California (Watts, to be exact), he and his brother, Darryl (who was only 13 months younger than him and is said to have looked like his twin), were criminals back in the day and they were also involved with gangs. Barry once described himself as an ex-gang banger.

Darryl first went to juvenile jail at 8 years old and Barry went to jail at the age of 16. Yeah, they got started really early.

Their lives had very different outcomes though. Barry White was busted after stealing $30,000 worth of Cadillac tires from a car dealership when he was 16. He served 7 months in prison and vowed to never return. He kept that vow and he never did. Instead, he dove head first into building his music career.

His brother, Darryl, on the other hand, had a different outlook on life and chose to keep living the street life, which costs him in the worst way in the end. He was murdered at the age of 37.

Although there are several conflicting reports, Darryl’s murder was originally recorded in December 1982. According to the L.A. detective who was assigned to Darryl’s case, Detective Steve Morgan, Darryl went to a liquor store for his neighbor, Ernest Little (who was 59 at the time), who’d given him $20 to buy liquor, beer, and cigarettes. Dt. Morgan said Darryl returned with only liquor and didn’t give Little his change and that’s when things blew up – they started arguing and Little allegedly shot him in the torso with a small-caliber handgun. Little was then charged with murder.

It is so senseless for Darryl to have been murdered over less than 20 bucks, which obviously hurt Barry to the core. The “Maestro” legend later expressed, to writer David Ritz, his confusion about why Darryl remained in that lifestyle:

“No one could understand the bond between me and Darryl. I struggled to understand the forces that drove his soul in one direction and mine in another. That struggle continues,” Barry said.

It’s easy to look at how Barry White and his brother, Darryl White, had two vastly different outcomes and ask the question- ‘Why was Darryl still living that life, when his brother was filthy rich?’ There are probably several answers that could apply to that. Maybe Barry tried to give him an opportunity to work for him and take him off the streets, but it just wasn’t what Darryl wanted. Maybe Darryl had too much pride to be employed by his brother, as opposed to having his ‘own thing’ going. Maybe Darryl was trying to become a superstar in his own right and attempting to step outside of his brother’s overpowering shadow, except instead of Darryl having aspirations of being music superstar, he preferred to be a hood superstar.

We could go on and on with the assumptions about why Darryl had access to a better life through his brother’s success, but chose the street life. One thing is definite in this equation though and it reminds me of a wise Old School saying: ‘You can lead a horse to the well, but you can’t make him drink.’

May Barry and Darryl White continue to rest peacefully.

Speaking of Barry, here are a few old school fun facts some of you might not know about him:

1. Barry and his brother were raised in a rough neighborhood of South Central, LA where gang violence was prevalent. Barry was the oldest of his mother’s two kids and although he had a love of listening to his mother’s classical music records and playing piano, the streets had a tighter grip on him and his brother Darryl who was 13 months younger than Barry. Darryl was eventually murdered in a clash with a rival gang, and Barry White was jailed at the age of 17 for stealing $30,000 worth of Cadillac tires.

2. While in jail, Barry White said he listened to Elvis Presley singing “It’s Now or Never” on the radio, an experience he later credited with changing the course of his life.

3. White was a teenage father of two of his children by the age of 16.

4. When White passed away in 2003, his wife and lead singer of the group, Love Unlimited, Glodean James (with whom Barry has children) and girlfriend, Katherine Denton (with whom Barry has one child with) were at conflict over his…
