Most of us, Old Schoolers, know actress, Kim Fields, as “Tootie” from “Facts of Life” and as “Regine” from “Living Single.” We also know her lil’ sis,’ Alexis Fields…remember her? Alexis- or as we also refer to her as, actress Chip Fields,’ youngest baby- is better known as the teen actress from several 90’s sitcoms, including “Sister, Sister,” “Moesha,” “Kenan and Kel,” and “Roc.” Well people, those were her youngin’ years and she was a cute little lady back then, but now she’s is ALL woman and heating up the internet somethin’ SERIOUS!

Chip Fields as ‘Lynetta Gordon’ and Janet Jackson as ‘Penny’ on “Good Times”

Kim Field’s is known as many things- ‘Tootie’ from Facts of Life, ‘Regine’ from Living Single, a former Real Housewives of Atlanta cast star, and much more. But before any of those accolades, she was first and foremost known as actress, Chip Fields,’ first born baby.

Now who could forget Mama Chip? Any Old Schooler knows her as ‘Lynetta Gordon,’ the evil, iron burning, abusive mother of ‘Penny’ (Janet Jackson) on Good Times. Chip played that role so well that she had kids everywhere scared of her, but thankfully she is NOTHNG like “Penny’s” momma in real life. Kim and her sister/actress Alexis can attest to that.

1. Who knew she was a singer? She was part of Ronnie and the Ronettes back in the day.
2. She is also a director, just like her daughter. Kim posted the below message on social media, celebrating the history she and her Mom made, for being the first mother/daughter duo to direct two different series on the same network at the same time.

Overall, Chip Fields is blessed to have influenced both of her daughters, Kim and Alexis (who starred in several 90’s sitcoms, including Roc, Moesha, Sister-Sister and more), in both their professional and personal lives. Three grandbabies (Kim has two sons and Alexis has one son) and two son-in-laws later, Chip probably couldn’t be happier for her babies.

Many Never Knew That Chip Fields Was Surprisingly Famous Before She Was Acting

Most old schoolers know Chip Fields, the actress, but did you know she was once a singer? Many fans probably remember Chip from her memorable episodes on Good Times when she played the abusive mother of Penny, portrayed by a young Janet Jackson.

Chip has been married to technical director Ervin Hurd since August 20, 1994.

“The Ronettes”

But surprisingly, before her acting career took off, she was a member of Ronnie and the Ronettes. The Ronettes performed “Walking In The Rain” live on television in 1973. In the mid-70s Ronnie Spector decided to reform the Ronettes after going solo in 1971. Chip Fields and Diane Linton were brought on as the two new members for the group.

She was recruited by Ronnie Spector, the former wife of Phil Spector, to help form The Ronettes.

The performance was actually just one year before Chip landed a role as an extra in Claudine. In the late 70s, she began to secure more acting roles made for television. Chip’s pivotal role on Good Times opened doors for other acting opportunities, which allowed her to pave the way for her daughters, Kim and Alexis Fields.

Once her acting career took off, Chip moved on from the group. After Good Times, she appeared on other 70s hit shows like Rhoda, What’s Happening, and Days of Our Lives. Throughout the 80s and 90s, Chip’s career also flourished.
