Gibson and Cole met each other in 2009 and had welcomed a child and gotten married all within the span of two years. Their wedding and family life were documented on the BET series Keyshia & Daniel: Family First but unfortunately their marriage fell apart after allegations of an affair surfaced with Keyshia claming the infidelity took place in she and Gibson’s shared bed. After months of silence Gibson spoke with Rolling Out in the aftermath of their breakup and expressed regret with how his marriage ended.

What happened with me and her was that our relationship was out there for everyone to see. So whenever we were going through our problems, it became public and everyone saw the ups and downs. With us, I think it was just a matter of us growing apart over time. I can’t say that there was one thing that broke us up, but what I can say as a man; when you are in a relationship, and you say those vows, I take full responsibility for everything that didn’t go right.

In regards to the alleged infidelity Gibson said;

I won’t say that I didn’t cheat, but I will say that I cheated my wife out of a friend in a lot of situations where I was supposed to hold her down and I didn’t. I cheated my wife out of a lot of different things. I feel like when we got together, I thought I was a man, and I thought I had it all figured out but I didn’t. I think I was like 23 when we met, and so a lot of mistakes that you shouldn’t make as a man in a relationship with your wife, I made.

Niko was just 9 years old when Keyshia released her debut album, “The Way It Is,” in 2005 and he was just months old when Keyshia’s mentor, rapper Tupac, was murdered in 1996. However, for Keyshia, “age ain’t nothing but a number,” which is what she captioned her Instagram post in March 2018, when she debuted Niko as her new man.

Anyways, the point is, her young King is gonna be taking on a lot of responsibility at a much younger age, but apparently, he’s ready for the task.

The other day, we reported that Keyshia Cole had social media in a tizzy, after announcing she was having a baby with her barely legal boyfriend, Niko Khale. She posted a simple caption that read (via hashtags), “Preggo In My Fashion Nova Fit … Congradulations [sic] Are In Order”. Immediately following her pregnancy announcement, fans were sounding off. Many congratulated her and Nikko. While many others questioned why she would get knocked up by a 22 year old aspiring rapper, whom she’s just started dating.

Why Keyshia Had To Defend Herself & Young Boyfriend

As we previously reported, in March 2018, Keyshia introduced her new man, Niko, to the world. She quickly realized she had to defend herself and her aspiring rapper boyfriend against backlash about his age and inexperience in life.

Keyshia was 14 years old and already pursuing her music career at the time of Niko’s birth. Niko was just 9 years old when Keyshia released her debut album, “The Way It Is,” in 2005 and he was just months old when Keyshia’s mentor, rapper Tupac, lost his life in 1996. However, for Keyshia, “age ain’t nothing but a number, but an excuse,” which is exactly the caption she used in an Instagram post to defend her relationship.

In her post, Niko was seen sitting in Keyshia’s Rolls Royce, rapping about his love for his older woman, in a song titled, “Age Ain’t Nothing But A Number”- much like the one R. Kelly produced/wrote for Aaliyah. She has since deleted the post from her Instagram page though.

In a separate March post, Keyshia also defended her relationship to fans who had been clownin’ her decision to date such a young guy:

“Now the reason I’m posting The pepper to my salt @nikokhale is because he’s been such a sweetheart to me, and I kno people have been very judgmental about our relationship but I gotta nurture what nurtures me!”

On Thursday (July 5), Keyshia took to Instagram with a photo of herself and now the post has gone viral. While the photo, itself, looks pretty typical, it’s the caption that’s turning heads. With the photo, Keyshia wrote, “#PreggoInMyFashionNovaFit #CongradulationsAreInOrder @fashionnova.” For those who don’t know, the “Love” singer made her Instagram account private for a few hours (it’s public again now), following the many fan reactions,  but of course there were screenshots of her post already circulating online. Why did Keysh’ suddenly go private on IG? If I had to take a guess, I’d say it was probably because she needed a minute to get rid of many fans’ comments about her getting pregnant by a dude who’s 14 years her junior and just entering into manhood. I don’t know that for certain, so don’t quote me on it, but given the fan backlash she’s getting in other online posts over this, it’s possible.

As expected, Keyshia’s pregnancy has garnered an array of colorful responses. While many of her fans have congratulated her, others are throwin’ major shade for a number of reasons. The main reason centers on the newness of the relationship and her man’s age. Some have raised concerns about the possibility of her man being an opportunist and now that she’s pregnant with his child, she could be stuck with him for the next 18 years.

However, the age difference isn’t the only concern for fans. The other issue is the timeline. You see, Keyshia and Niko just debuted their relationship back in April of this year (2018). So, it’s only been a few short months as far as fans are concerned, which seems like they’re movin’ at a rapid pace. Even before Keyshia announced the pregnancy, there was speculation that she was pregnant and fans immediately raised concerns, according to Celebrity Insider. At the time, one person wrote:

Keyshia Cole Urges Mothers To Be More Careful With Their Children:

On her Instagram page, Keyshia Cole shared a meme of a little girl crying. The meme urged mothers to stop leaving their daughters with boyfriends whom they barely knew. Additionally, the meme pointed out that when a child is abused, the wounds never heal and she captioned the photo with the following message:

While Keyshia didn’t mention any children by name, her post seems to speak about the recent death of 3 year-old Bella Edwards. Bella Edwards lived in an apartment in Queens, New York with her mother, Shamika Gonzalez, her baby brother Logan, and her mother’s boyfriend, Mark Jenkins. On Monday (April 2, 2018), Gonzalez left to run an errand and she left her children in the hands of Jenkins. When Gonzalez returned home, Bella was found unresponsive in her room. CPR was administered and the paramedics were called. Tragically, Bella died and Jenkins was arrested for her murder. Court details revealed that Jenkins reportedly punched Bella in her abdomen and investigators believe she bled to death. Expressing regret for not being there, Gonzalez took to Facebook to apologize to her daughter, Bella. On Facebook, Gonzalez wrote the following:

“Bella i’m so sorry I wasn’t their to protect you. This feels like a bad dream I cant wake up from. You was loved by everyone and shared so many Funny memories. I’m going to miss all the times you kissed and hugged me everyday and miss hearing you say Hi Loggy I’m your big sister. Please watch over me, Logan and the family. We all love you so much!”

This wasn’t the first time Keyshia posted her new boo, she also defended her love for him to fans who had been clownin’ her decision to date such a young dude, a few days prior. Neffe’s Pleading Message To Keyshia

Apparently there’s a major issue Neffe’ and Keysh’ have been battling for a minute now, because Neffe’- who is known for being the ‘tough chick,’ put her pride to the side and laid it all on the line, on Instagram, to her sister. In her lengthy post, Neffe’ begged Keyshia for forgiveness for doing her dirty in some way:

Keyshia has yet to respond to Neffe’ publicly, but after watching their past family drama unfold on television, this isn’t a surprise. Hopefully they can work this thing out though.

Their Family Drama

In case y’all aren’t really up on the dynamic of Keyshia’s and Neffe’s history, here’s a quick breakdown. Keysh’ is the younger sister of Neffe, and they were raised in a rocky family upbringing. Their mother, Frankie, has battled drug/alcohol addiction for decades and spent time in and out of jail when they were youngins. Each of the ladies, along with their other siblings, were split up as kids and sent to live with other families, due to Frankie’s issues. Years later, Keyshia Cole became an R&B success and attempted to help Neffe and other siblings get on their feet financially. Throughout that process, Neffe had a slight battle with alcohol and anger issues, which was also highlighted on their show at some point.

Keyshia’s Latest Legal Drama

Although we’re sure Keyshia loves her some Neffe and probably wouldn’t mind getting back right with her big sis,’ she’s currently got some other problems to handle first. As we previously reported, Keyshia was recently ordered to pay $100,635 to Sabrina Mercadel, the woman Keyshia assaulted after reportedly catching her with her then boo, Birdman. It’s a long story, but hopefully Keyshia learned her lesson from that one: don’t go ‘Mike Tyson’ on folks at will.

Now, we all know that Keyshia’s got that ready-to-fight gene in her blood stream, because we’ve seen both her mother, Frankie, and her big sister, Neffe, display those same qualities on reality TV. But apparently, one woman must’ve missed those episodes, because on one fateful night in 2014, she had to reportedly learn the hard way…and that lesson just come back to kick Keyshia in the you know what…

Many of y’all may recall when Keyshia Cole made headlines after a woman named, Sabrina Mercadel- a then Cash Money Records employee- filed a police report against Cole, and was granted a restraining order to keep Keyshia 100 yards away from her. That was the result of an alleged fist fight -or shall I say, a beatdown- that Cole was said to have delivered to Mercadel. The reason for that, according to the victim, is because at that time, Keyshia was dating Birdman a.k.a. Toni Braxton’s new boo-thang, and flew clean off the rails when she found Sabrina was at Birdman’s Los Angeles condo at 5 a.m..

It was reported that Keyshia went straight ‘Mike Tyson’ on Sabrina, yelling “What are you doing with my man?!” and then proceeding to punch her in the face, claw her with her nails, and throw various objects at her. Sabrina also claimed in court docs, that after the fight, her neck and back were in severe pain and that Keyshia damaged her finger so badly, that it may no longer be usable.

Ultimately, Keyshia was arrested for the incident, then released on bail. Although neither Keyshia, nor Birman ever spoke publicly about the reported ‘Rumble In The Jungle’ beatdown, it was said that Birdman dropped Keyshia like a bad habit after that fiasco.

Fast forward to three years later and now here comes the worst part of it all for Ms. Cole…she just lost big time in a lawsuit Sabrina filed against her. See details below…

Dayumn!! Keyshia Must Pay HOW MUCH?!!

In 2014, Sabrina initially filed a $1 million lawsuit against Keyshia over the attack, but that must have fell through because she came back in 2017 and filed a $4 million ‘suit against her. Now though, it’s just been reported that Keyshia is ordered to pay Sabrina Mercadel a whopping six figure settlement- $106,635.00 to be exact! Here’s why:

Via TMZ: Keyshia Cole is gonna pay dearly for attacking a woman in Birdman’s L.A. condo. […] Sabrina says she lost the use of a finger as a result of the attack. […] The suit ended with a default judgment against Keyshia because she was a no-show in court. Sabrina was awarded $100,635 … that’s a lot of money, but nowhere near the $4 million Sabrina was after.

Keyshia, Keyshia, KEYSHIA!!! I’m willing to bet that she’ll think twice before morphing into Keyshia ‘Tyson’ next time.

The past season of Love and Hip Hollywood was filled with ratchetness, but as far as singer, Keyshia Cole, and her ex-husband/retired NBA’er, Daniel “Boobie” Gibson, it was a seemingly smooth ride toward forgiveness and moving on. That’s exactly where the former lovebirds are in their relationship.

We’ve watched Boobie attempt to form a “platonic” bond with singer, Brooke Valentine, on the show. We’ve also watched Boobie and Keyshia live together, but separate lives, as they co-parent their lil man, Daniel Jr.

Then came the divorce reports, that Gibson was demanding alimony from Keyshia, among other things, which he later tried to clear up on Instagram.

Daniel “Boobie” Gibson Explains Why He Contemplated Suicide

Before all of the aforementioned situations, Boobie revealed that their marriage ultimately ended because Keyshia left him after he cheated on her. It was her saying ‘peace out’ to their marriage, that ultimately had him in a state of severe depression and contemplating suicide. He detailed exactly why that was and what else he was going through at that time, which added even further salt to his wounds. Check out what he revealed to Uproxx:

…It was Gibson’s injuries, to go along with his divorce and the death of his grandmother (whom he lived with) that put him in a mental state unlike anything he’d ever been through.

“I was just hit with a flurry of events,” Gibson says. “Mentally, It just took away my ability to workout. I was suffering from depression and anxiety. Honestly, basketball was my sanctuary, but I couldn’t even do that. […] I really got to the point where being alive wasn’t something I wanted anymore.”

“I’ve learned through the depression I went through after losing Keyshia and I felt like [I lost] my son too in the sense that I couldn’t be with him every day. That whole thing took me into a deep depression, and in that depression I kind of found out a lot of things about myself.”

As expected, the seemingly steep demands sparked outrage among Love & Hip Hop fans, because after seeing their lives unfold on camera, many fans argue he doesn’t deserve to make those types of demands. However, since the Mr. and Mrs. are  still technically married, there actually are a few things he may be entitled to. Regardless of the law, Booby has now released an official statement in response to the reports and he wants to set the record straight.

Details About His Demands:

According to The Jasmine Brand, the ex-NBA star-turned-aspiring-rapper’s legal team has offered a detailed explanation for the filing in the wake of all the controversy it has caused. In an effort to offer clarity, Gibson and his lawyers explained how he is not “actively” seeking child support and full custody, but he did submit a previous settlement proposal, including those requests. So, the situation still seems a bit odd, but they’ve made an attempt to address address it.

Damage Control?

Here’s how Booby and his legal team have responded:

“Mr. Gibson wishes to clarify that he is not actively seeking spousal support and full custody. Mr. Gibson submitted a full settlement proposal to Ms. Cole some time ago, which excludes spousal support and includes a shared custodial plan for their son. The document in question (i.e. Mr. Gibson’s Response to the Petition for Dissolution of Marriage) is what we in the family law sector call inclusive,” the statement read.

The statement continues:

“This means that a party will always file or respond in a way that gives them the best possible outcome in the event the case goes to trial, as it is much more difficult, time-consuming, and costly for the client to go back and amend a filing to ask for something that was not originally requested. Attorneys who are well-versed in Family Law are aware of this and almost always counsel their clients to file as such with the full understanding that a resolution is typically reached that is acceptable to both parties, particularly in a case like this, where the parties are on amicable terms. It is regretful that this document has been publicized and is now subject to scrutiny by individuals unfamiliar with standard family law practices. Mr. Gibson hopes to resolve this matter with Ms. Cole as soon as possible in a way that will allow them to move forward amicably and continue their cooperative co-parenting efforts.”

Booby’s Intent & Regret

As you can see, the statement attempted to thoroughly explain the reasoning behind Booby’s filing in question. Apparently, it was a relatively common tactic used in divorce court, but it still raises questions about Gibson’s intent. Of course, there are regrets about the information being made public, but unfortunately, it is what it is.

Hopefully, Keyshia and Daniel can figure things out soon, so they can both move on with their lives. Since the estranged couple had been living under the same roof for years, despite being separated, it will probably be good for both of them to move forward.
