In a recent interview on The Breakfast Club, found himself in hot water after making remarks about singer, Monica, potentially opening for his sister, Brandy, on a tour. However, Monica was not pleased with his comments and took to social media to address the issue. Well, now, in a new interview on the “Way Up With Angela Yee Show,” Ray J issued an apology to Monica with the quickness.

Ray J’s Apology To Monica

Ray J wasted no time in apologizing to Monica after she called him out publicly. He expressed his intention to reach out to her directly and said, “Monica, if I said anything wrong, I apologize.” He acknowledged her talent, stating, “You are a great artist, you and Brandy have made history together. All I want to do is just kind of shake it up a little bit to get y’all together to see … that should be one of those last wave tours.”

Ray J emphasized that his goal was to give the world what they want – a Brandy and Monica tour. He further expressed his respect for Monica, assuring her that he had nothing but admiration for her. He clarified that he hadn’t discussed the possibility of a tour with Brandy either.

What Had Happened Was…

In case y’all missed Ray J’s original tour hype that got Monica heated, Ray stated:

“I mean, of course Monica would have to open, right? … Somebody has to come out first. Brandy ain’t having that, either.”

Soon afterwards, Monica, seemed pissed with Ray J’s comments and requested a private conversation to address the matter respectfully. She made it clear that she had not received any contracts or calls about a tour and was tired of her name being discussed without her authorization:

“I’ve been repeatedly contacted about interviews, etc. where my name and tour possibilities are being discussed! I’ve not received any contracts or calls about said tour! … I’m kindly asking you to stop speaking to me in public! A private conversation would be both necessary and respectful!” – Monica

She also expressed her deep respect for Brandy as a legendary artist with an extensive catalog:

“Brandy is a LEGEND! She’s one of one with an extensive catalog that I deeply respect and a voice sent from heaven!”

Monica suggested that they approach the idea of a tour in a positive and beautiful manner. Rather than opening for each other, she proposed giving another artist the opportunity and operating as co-headliners. She emphasized the importance of professionalism and expressed her desire to maintain a harmonious relationship throughout the process:

“The conversation being had without she and I is beginning to muddy the waters severely! She and I are both consummate professionals [who] share a massive recording as well as an entire era! Please allow this to remain positive and beautiful! Neither should open. We should give someone else that opportunity and co-headline a massive shared stage if this is ever to happen! Any further [conversation] should be private!”

Although Brandy and Monica have had a rocky history with one another, they have since reportedly apologized to each other and appear to be on good terms.

As of now, there has been no public response from Brandy regarding Ray J’s comments or the potential tour. The fans, meanwhile, are divided on the matter.

At the end of the day, Ray J is a businessman who’s been known to stir up controversy in order to drum up hype surrounding various business ventures of his…and oftentimes, it’s worked for him. So, although it remains to be seen whether a Brandy and Monica tour will become a reality, it seems Ray J is already off to a great start, as far as building hype around any potential of that happening in the future. Now he just has to get Brandy and Monica on board with him, which may prove a tad difficult at the moment.

Singer, Monica, did an interview with Power 105’s, “The Breakfast Club,” in 2015 where she revealed something that had the whole station in shock. She says that she hasn’t spoken to her step-brother in years. Why you ask? Well, because she says that he tried to kill her…literally.

According to Monica…it all went down one day when she, her step-brother, and his friend went swimming. In the interview, Monica tells the story about how her brother and his friend told her that they were going to walk her to the deep end of the pool, but that they would protect her and keep her out of harm’s way. Monica agreed and then as soon as the water was high enough to reach over her head, her brother let her go and stood back watching her drown. She said that she saw them whispering to each other and to this day she doesn’t understand why he did that to her. It was her step-brother’s mother who saw her drowning and ran out of the house to help her out of the pool. From that day on she has had a strained relationship with him, developed an intense fear of swimming, and talks to her kids about protecting themselves.

Monica can’t swim and her step-brother reportedly knew that. So, doesn’t it sound like there are some deeper, underlying issues that are missing from this story? There must have been something else going on, because that isn’t the typical ‘kids will be kids’ type of behavior.

However, to her step-brother’s credit, Monica did also say that he eventually tried to pull her out of the water…after so long, but she was too far away for him to reach. Maybe he came to his senses and wasn’t really trying to kill her, but he almost did. And because of that, it did’t seem like Monica would be in the forgiving mood any time soon….at least not at the time of her interview, which was years later.

A few years back, singer, Monica, publicly put “Keep On Walking” singer, CeCe Peniston, on blast for crushing her young heart and her spirit back in the day. The only problem was that CeCe didn’t even remember doing it, nor did she know that her fellow R&B colleague actually had been holding a grudge against her for 17 years.

Monica Recalls Hurt From CeCe:

Monica publicly exposed an incident between she and CeCe in a prior interview and this is how she said it all went down:

Monica: “I remember years ago when I was like 10, I went to an expo and my manager-cousin Melinda asked CeCe Peniston, who was huge at that time, if I could sing for her. She did everything she possibly could while I sang and I remember her being so rude. Soon after that, one of CeCe Peniston’s friends told her what Monica said about her in that interview, and CeCe immediately went into action. Nope, she didn’t come for Monica and try to retaliate, nor did she try to discredit Monica’s words and feelings. Instead, CeCe did what any real woman would do- she owned up to any pain/disrespect she showed Monica; and publicly apologized to her in an open letter. Here’s what CeCe wrote:

Hello, Monica. I don’t even know where to begin. A good friend of mine called me yesterday and told me about the interview you did for “Necole Bichie”. I actually read it myself and my heart just dropped.

I wanted to apologize from the bottom of my heart for anything that I may have said or done to make you feel that way. I honestly don’t remember this, so for that reason I can’t deny it. I absolutely LOVE children, that’s why I’ve been wrecking my brain to remember this. I’ve always encouraged and supported children in their dreams and aspirations, especially when they’ve wanted to demonstrate a talent to me.

You said in the interview that I did everything I could do to stay busy while you were singing. The only thing I can assume is that maybe at that time I had a lot of people pulling me in a hundred different directions and I should have told them to wait while you were singing. At that time I was young and still pretty new to the industry myself, and so I hadn’t learned how to balance everything just yet.

It really hurts me that I made you feel like that. I’ve always prided myself on staying grounded, being real to people and loving my fans. But after reading the interview it showed me that I wasn’t always on top of my game and I am very sorry for that. As an artist you know that you’re always expected to be at 100%, but we both know that we just can’t deliver that all the time.

I want you to know that I’m very proud of the woman you’ve become and everything you’ve accomplished both professionally and personally. I hate that at such a young age that’s the memory you have of me. Stay blessed in everything you do and I wish you all the best with your new album. Sincerely, CeCe.

That was really cool of CeCe to do that, because she could have simply been offended by Monica’s interview and taken this thing in a whole ‘nother direction.

After Monica saw CeCe’s response, she released this public message to her:

“CeCe, with all my heart I believe what you are saying. I was only 11 years old and it had an affect on me in a positive way, especially as an artist. It was great for me because to fans I don’t say no to things that are fair or within my reach.

But only a REAL woman would care about the story after all the years have passed. I never told the story with the intent of hurting you. I’m nothing like some of these messy chicks that recklessly speak and then back down, but I did it to make a point to the many new artists that I meet who clearly feel they owe fans nothing and clearly, CeCe, you don’t feel that way to have even addressed it after 17 years.

So thank you, CeCe, at 28 years old (Monica’s 39 now) it still meant a lot to me that you addressed ME directly, and at this point I feel that story should never be told again because the second greatest point this ENTIRE story makes is that artist is still human. Thank you very much for even caring about my feelings. All my love, Monica and my entire family (who were all there that day) say we thank you and love you.”

Maybe CeCe was a “Just One of Them Days” moments when she allegedly threw shade at Monica (hint, hint). Or maybe CeCe really did want Monica to “Keep On Walking” during their encounter back in the day. Monica Is Not For Dishing The Dirt

Monica is radio silent when it comes to questions about her divorce. Last month the singer announced her divorce with ex-NBA baller Shannon Brown. Not giving details about her divorce is pissing off producers on T.I.’s reality show “T.I & Tiny Friends & Family Hustle”.

Sources close to production on the show say that Monica is refusing to talk about her divorce. She won’t even mention her ex-husband’s name at all.

Monica’s decision to stay quiet is frustrating the producers that have the task of creating an interesting storyline for the singer. Needless to say she’s just not cooperating with producers. Yet they continue pushing for her to open up about her relationship with Brown.

The trailer for the reality show’s upcoming season makes it seem like Monica’s an open book when it comes to her divorce. The editing must be on point because it’s been made clear that couldn’t be further from the truth. In the previews for this season, she says she never imagined being a single mother in her 30s. That’s as close as we’re getting out of her as it pertains to her divorce.

As you may recall the singer filed for divorce from the former pro athlete back in March, after 8 years of marriage.

The singer filed the paperwork earlier last month in Atlanta. Monica and Shannon have a 5-year-old daughter named Laiyah together. She also has 2 sons from a previous relationship with rapper Rocko.

There are still no details on whether she will be seeking child or spousal support. Even though she is not spilling the tea, Monica was unsuccessful in sealing the divorce docs.

Sometimes love isn’t always enough to keep a marriage together and unfortunately for singer, Monica Brown, and her husband/retired NBA baller, Shannon Brown, that just might be the case. News has just broken, that the two are getting a divorce and from the sounds of it, Monica is the one who wants it.

According to TMZ, Monica filed for divorce in Atlanta, GA earlier this month (March 2019). It was also reported that she was ‘unsuccessful in sealing the divorce docs,’ suggesting that maybe she’d tried to have the details of their divorce concealed, but for whatever reason she was not allowed and/or able to do so.

At this point it’s unclear if Monica will be seeking child and spousal support from Shannon. They share a precious 5 year old daughter named, Laiyah. Monica also has two sons -Rodney (13) and Romelo (11)- with her ex-boyfriend/rapper, Rocko.

Back in the day, music videos were everything. Although Sean has changed a bit, most women on social media have been agreeing that the brotha hasn’t missed a beat since ’95. Matter of fact, many of his admirers insist he’s only gotten better over the years.

Shortly after the photos were shared, women everywhere flooded the post with comments about Sean. One woman wrote, “DAMN!! There’s an interesting video circulating on social media and it shows the end of Brandy’s performance where the crowd was singin’ “The Boy Is Mine” acapella. When Brandy chimed back in, she sang, “The song is mine. I gotta claim what’s mine. If I don’t got the boy, I’ve got the song. You know what I’m saying?” As expected, the questionable lyrics caught the attention of fans and now there are tons of questions about why she’d bring up all the buried drama again. Brandy Takes Shots At Monica At The Essence Festival:

Even though their 1998 song, “The Boy Is Mine,” was a hit, it reportedly sparked negative energy between the two ladies and the energy is seemingly still there to this day. At one point, it appeared as if Monica and Brandy had let sleeping dogs lie, but apparently, Brandy’s still in her feelings. Keeping the beef going during her recent Essence Fest performance, it appeared that Brandy took some shots at Monica.

In an interview with ESSENCE Now Studio, Monica was asked if she would ever work with her alleged R&B rival, Brandy. Always a class act, Monica paid homage to Brandy placing her among the musical greats:

I always tell people: We’re not trying to duplicate what we did before. We understand that that’s a moment in time. But when we make other music, we don’t want it to be the idea that we’re trying to re-do a that [‘The Boy Is Mine’].”

For The Record…

For the record, although it has been widely reported, that Ludacris and Monica are blood related, they’re actually related by marriage and grew up together. Monica’s mother has been married to Ludacris’ uncle since the two entertainers were kids. Here’s what Monica explained in an interview with Hip Hop Weekly:

Monica (in 2010): “We grew up together. My mom married his uncle over two decades ago. Before there was Ludacris and Monica, there was Christopher Bridges and Mo and we were just always close.”
