The Controversial Whitney Joke

As Carmichael was hosting the Golden Globes, he cracked a sarcastic joke about the awards show being held in the same hotel where Whitney sadly died:

“So, we are here, live, from the hotel that killed Whitney Houston, the Beverly Hilton.”

As y’all could imagine, Carmichael’s joke garnered a mixture of ‘oohs,’ ‘ahhs,’ gasps, and a few laughs. However, Pat Houston was far from kicks and giggles after catching wind of the Whitney-joke. In fact, she’s reportedly hella pissed that the Golden Globes would allow their host to joke about Whitney’s death like that.

In a statement on Pat Houston’s behalf, a rep said:

“The Whitney Houston Estate is disappointed in the joke, and felt it was in poor taste.”

At this point, it’s unclear if the big wigs runnin’ the show even knew Carmichael was going to crack on Whitney like that. In the video clip above, it kinda seems like Carmichael created his joke off in the spur of the moment. At any rate, pretty sure Whitney’s loved ones couldn’t care less if Carmichael’s joke was pre-rehearsed or not.

As for Jerrod Carmichael’s stance on that apparently hot pot he’s now stirred up, he has yet to speak out on it. But this is familiar territory for him, his style of comedy has been known to be both controversial and insightful at the same time. This time though, he may have tipped the scale too far on the scale of sensitivity.

When news spread, that there was a new documentary, titled “Whitney,” centered around the life of our beloved Whitney Houston, many were cautiously intrigued. The documentary, spearheaded by Whitney’s sis-in-law/ex-manager, Pat Houston, was promised to give never before heard of intimate details about the late singer. After trailers of the doc’ were released, anticipation really built up, because it revealed details given by Whitney’s family and friends, that the world really didn’t know- such as she and her brother, Gary Houston (Pat’s husband) were sexually assaulted.

Pat Houston Tells What Cissy Never Knew

Of course, the molestation revelation was news to fans, but it’s just been confirmed that it was news to the Houston siblings’ mother, Cissy Houston, as well. According to the Associated Press, Cissy had no clue that her children were molested back in the day…and by their own famous cousin at that, allegedly. It wasn’t until it was time to shoot the documentary, that Pat told Cissy what both Gary and Whitney had reportedly previously confessed.

In a recent interview, Pat admitted it was very “difficult” to tell Cissy the news, but she knew it had to be done:

“It was deeply a revelation for her. You think about her, and it being a bit overbearing for her to hear — and her kids not telling her. That’s pretty tough to have to deal with,” said Pat.

Family Confirmed Whitney & Gary Houston Were Sexually Abused

As we previously reported, several family members were interviewed for the documentary, including mother, Cissy Houston; sister-in-law, Pat Houston; brother, Gary Houston; as well as Whitney’s ex-husband, Bobby Brown. In the doc,’ it was revealed that Whitney was sexually abused by her singer cousin, Dee Dee Warwick (the niece of Cissy Houston and sister of Dionne Warwick):

Via DailyMail- Mary Jones, Whitney’s aunt [and assistant] who found her body, claims Whitney had told her she had been sexually abused by Dee Dee Warwick – sister of singer Dionne [Warwick] – between the ages of seven and nine. She recalls Whitney saying: ‘Mary, I was [abused] too. It was a woman.’ Asked who it was, she said Miss Houston replied: ‘It was Dee Dee Warwick.’

Her half-brother Gary Garland-Houston corroborated the account and said he was also sexually assaulted by the younger sister of soul legend Dionne Warwick. […] But Whitney never told her mother Cissy Houston about the alleged abuse because she “was ashamed,” according to her aunt. And a relative said Cissy would have attacked Dee Dee.

Alleged Molestation Led To Whitney’s Sexuality Conflict & Unhappiness, Says Family & Friends

Dee Dee passed away in 2008, but the turmoil she reportedly left behind caused heartbreak and lifelong pain. Whitney’s aunt, Mary, believes the sexual abuse was a contributing factor into decisions Whitney later made in her love life…

Via DM: Mary claimed the abuse made Whitney “question her sexual preference” – prompting her to demonstrate that she was heterosexual by marrying Bobby Brown.

The director of the “Whitney” doc,’ Kevin MacDonald also believes that the reported molestation led Whitney to have unresolved issues about herself and her sexuality:

“I don’t think you can explain anyone’s life from one particular event that’s happened to them. But I think that it’s certainly fair to say that it’s maybe, in my opinion, the major contributor to Whitney’s unhappiness,” MacDonald said. “That and the fact that she never talked about it, and that nobody in the family talked about this and clearly it happened as you’d learned in the film.”

The “Whitney” film premiered nationwide on Friday, July 6, 2018.

By now, most people have heard all about the new Whitney Houston biopic set to hit theaters next week. Since the deaths of Whitney and her daughter Bobbi Kristina, multiple films have been made about the late singer, her daughter, and her ex-husband, Bobby Brown. But it doesn’t look like the productions will stop anytime soon because yet another film is making its way to the big screen. Shortly after Whitney’s death, tons of fans assumed a biopic would soon follow but now many of the singer’s frustrated fans are gettin’ fed up with all of the films.

From the outside lookin’ in, the Whitney Houston books, biopics, and documentaries just seem like more ways for people to capitalize on her legacy. In fact, many of Whitney’s fans have blasted the Houston family for constantly using the late singer to generate cash flow but apparently, there’s one member of the Houston family who is completely fed up with the backlash. Now, Pat Houston speaking out to defend the family and set the record straight.

Settin’ The Record Straight:

For those who don’t know, the latest film will actually be the first to offer an in-depth depiction of Whitney Houston from the people who knew her best: her own family members. Now, they are hoping to share a more intimate view of the famous singer and surprisingly they have no plans to sugar coat anything. In addition to remembering the good times, they’ll also offer honesty about the disheartening personal challenges Whitney faced during her bout with substance abuse. Pat argued that this particular film will be distinctly different from all others because the stories are told by the people who actually interacted with Whitney on a regular basis. “People who have dealt with her emotions from the day she was born to the day she died. People that really knew her and had to live what she lived.”

The Brutally Honest Truth:

We all know everyone has skeletons in the closet and secrets they share with no one. So, Pat was asked whether or not she believes Whitney would have liked the Houston family airing her dirty laundry. The PR guru kinda skated around the question and offered a blanketed response insisting everyone has a story. In a nutshell, Pat is keepin’ it real. It’s Whitney’s real story whether she would have liked it or not. She wrote the script for her own story. “Everyone that has a life has a story. It’s her story, and its played out in the documentary. She narrated a lot of it herself. It’s just her life as the family and friends who dealt with her every single day.”

However, Whitney’s imperfect past isn’t the only topic of discussion in the film. Her brother Michael Houston has even confessed that he did drugs with his sister. The intense interview continued with another compelling question. Pat was asked if the family actually contributed to Whitney’s downfall. As expected, Pat quickly went into defense mode.

Defending the Houston Family:

So was the Houston family a big factor in Whitney’s downfall? Pat set the record straight insisting it was Whitney’s preference to be surrounded by family members as opposed to strangers. Whitney believed blood would always be thicker than water. “When Whitney became who she became: a superstar and an icon. Whitney wanted her family there. Everybody else to her was a stranger. Everybody had to be hired, her family didn’t. They were going to be there regardless. I can honestly [say] we can enable certain times with certain things. She was a brat sometimes. For me, I called her my bratty little sister. And sometimes family is there for a different type of support than people that work around you.”

She adamantly defended the family arguing they were not the reason for Whitney’s downward spiral. “That is not true. Her family has always been there for her. I know that because I’ve been around nearly 30 years. For anything that was happening or going on, I would always go to the boss and that was her mom. She would support anything we needed to do. There were lots of struggles, but when you have strength like that – coming from Cissy [Houston] – she has such a strong foundation in God, and she taught that to her kids.”

While many fans aren’t too thrilled about seeing the beloved Whitney Houston in a negative light, the film simply titled Whitney will likely be the realest documentary released. Whitney is set to hit theaters nationwide on Friday, July 8.

The documentary,”Whitney,” was given consent by Whitney’s family and several of them were interviewed in the film, including her mother, Cissy Houston; sister-in-law, Pat Houston; brother, Gary Houston; as well as ex-husband, Bobby Brown. Whitney Later Grew Close To Her Sexual Abuser?

The film sheds light on Whitney’s personal struggles and it also presents her long rumored bisexual relationship with best friend, Robyn Crawford, as fact. Ironically, Dee Dee Warwick and Whitney grew closer later in life and it was suggested in the film, that their similar struggles to hide their sexuality is what bonded them:

Via DailyMail- One source close to the Warwick family said: “Dee Dee was openly lesbian in the music industry. Not necessarily in public, but I don’t think that was a secret within the music industry. … Whitney felt closer to Dee Dee by virtue of them sharing a similar orientation. It is interesting that there is that connection.”

Dionne Warwick’s sister, Dee Dee, passed away in 2008, at age 63 and she also struggled with drug addiction throughout her life.

Director: Family Struggled To Tell All

The film’s Oscar Award winning director, Kevin MacDonald, admitted, in an interview with Deadline, that prior to filming, he had no clue the Houston family would drop such huge, yet delicate revelations.

Kevin MacDonald: I interviewed Pat Houston and Gary Houston. … [Gary] told me that he was abused by a woman in the family, and Pat Houston told me that, yes, Whitney had said to her, “This is what happened.” […] Then I [interviewed] Mary Jones … and she told me Whitney’s point of view on this, and what Whitney had told her in detail, and how important she felt it was for understanding Whitney, but how scared everyone was to talk about it.

Hopefully, Whitney’s struggles and triumphs will ultimately help others who have gone through similar situations.

When the “I Will Always Love You” R&B queen passed away in February 2012, her estate was reportedly worthed about $20 million. As expected though, that net worth increased dramatically after her death, with the increased sales in albums, merchandise, etc. Although it’s unclear just how much of an increase there was, the IRS claims to know exactly how much it was and subsequently blamed Whitney estate for tax fraud.

Houston’s Estate Owed HOW MUCH?!!

According to The Blast, the IRS says Whitney’s estate tried to stick ’em out of $11+ million dollars after her passing. Here’s what else was reported:

Following Whitney’s death, the IRS determined the estate had underreported the singer’s royalties, residuals and value of her image by $22.6 million. The IRS alleged that meant the estate owed them $11 million dollars. Whitney’s estate claimed the IRS was wrong in their value determination. They alleged the values they determined for her music royalties, digital performance royalties, motion picture and TV residuals, and publicity rights (which they valued at $11.7 million) were all overvalued by the IRS, and claimed their tax returns were accurate.

Estates Big Break In Tax Case

After ‘Uncle Sam’ came after Whitney’s estate, which is reportedly ran by Pat Houston, Whitney’s sister-in-law, their case was set to head to court in February 2018- the 6th anniversary month of Whitney’s passing. However, before the case had gotten that far, the estate has just reached a settlement with the IRS and caught a HUGE break…one worth about $9 mil’ to be exact:

TB: According to court documents obtained by The Blast, the estate filed documents on December 26 agreeing to pay the amount of $2,275,366.

Two million is still a helluva lot of money, but it beats having to cough up $11.7M’s, that’s for damn sure.

Next time around, hopefully Whitney’s estate stays on top of their tax problems, like professionals. The last thing we wanna see is Pat being hauled off to jail like Ron Isley was.

Pat Houston Speaks On It

Now, Whitney’s sister-in-law/manager, Pat Houston, has weighed in on the mound of backlash surrounding Christina’s tribute. Simply put, Pat says that she thought it was “fabulous” and that as long as her and the rest of Whitney’s fam’ were hella pleased with the tribute, nothing else matters. As y’all can see, there were mixed reactions from all sides of the coin. True, Aguilera had a few shaky notes in her performance. It’s also true there are plenty of other singers who would’ve done a much better job, however…well, quite frankly I can’t think of a rebuttal for that, so I won’t try. Point is though, I don’t think Christina was exactly horrible, she just didn’t quite know how to put that stank on it, like our beloved Whitney would have done.

In July of this year (2017), it will be two years since Bobbi Kristina sadly fatally succumbed to injuries she sustained after being found unconscious in her bathtub at her Atlanta, Ga. home at the age of 22. Unfortunately, it will almost be just as much time that Bobbi’s estate co-trustees and estate administrator have been going at it.

The co-trustees of the estate are Bobbi Kristina’s aunt-in-law, Pat Houston, her grandmother, Cissy Houston, and her father, Bobby Brown. However, it appears that the two who have been having ongoing tension with the estate administrator, attorney Bedelia Hargrove, are Pat and Cissy.

As we’ve previously reported, the tension hit an all time high in February (2017), when Hargrove hit Pat and Cissy with a lawsuit for “breach of trust.”  Hargrove felt that the two Houstons were going to destroy Bobbi’s estate by refusing to sign off on the necessary funding needed to operate the estate, which at that time had a pending unpaid overhead cost of approximately $86K.

In her lawsuit, filed in Fulton County Superior Court, Hargrove wrote “Respondents are impairing and impeding the proper administration of the estate. […] To date, the respondents have failed and refused to pay any expenses of administration of the estate after proper and repeated demands from the petitioner.”

Pat and Cissy shot back by claiming they had not been shown proper documentation of how the money is being spent.

Fast forward to today and it seems that Bedelia has now had it up to here with the uncooperative tension between she and the estate.

According to The Jasmine Brand, in addition to the refusal to pay certain costs, Pat and Cissy have expressed disapproval over various things, including issues with Bobby Brown and Nick Gordon.

Apparently Pat and Cissy felt that it was a waste of time and money to go after Nick Gordon for the wrongful death lawsuit (which Bobby Brown pushed for and won recently against Nick), because they noted that Nick does not have the means, nor income to pay the multimillion dollar judgement against him. Therefore, it has been reported that they refused to sign off on funding for that particular legal battle.

It’s also being reported that Hargrove pointed out that Cissy and Pat were not able to properly fulfill their responsibilities as co-trustees of the estate due to their ongoing ‘hostility’ towards Bobbi Kristina’s pops, Bobby Brown.

As of March 3, 2017 attorney Bedelia Hargrove threw in the towel as administrator of Bobbi Kristina’s estate and reportedly has landed a new gig with the Dekalb County Probate Court.

Bobbi Kristina’s estate isn’t in complete limbo though, a court appointed temporary administrator, Ann J. Herrera, has stepped in. At this point, the temp will handle the same responsibilities as a permanent admin would, except she will only be able to access the necessary funds needed to operate the estate if the judge approves it- not Cissy, or Pat. However, after a permanent administrator is appointed, then the process will presume to operating as usual.

Hope they can come to some type of  resolve, because the last thing the Houston and Brown families need, is more tension and stress on their families.

When we first got wind of this lawsuit we were confused because Bobby Brown and Pat Houston are the co-guardians of Bobbi Kristina’s estate. So we were thinking, ‘Well who is suing Pat- herself?!!” It turns out that attorney Bedelia Hargrove, who is the conservator of Bobbi’s estate, is the one who’s gonna have Cissy and Pat making their trek to the courtroom. Hargrove’s job is to always protect Bobbi Kristina’s assets, including her likeness, rights and legal claims. Simply put, Hargrove says that Pat and Cissy are trying to skip out on the bills that are mounting up for Bobbi’s estate and she’s tired of it.
Here is what Bossip reported about why Pat and Cissy are being hit with legal papers by Bobbi Kris’ estate:

Exactly four years after Whitney Houston’s death, infighting between the administrator of daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown’s estate and her relatives are threatening to run Brown’s estate into the ground.

That’s according to Brown’s estate administrator Bedelia Hargrove, who sued Brown’s grandmother Cissy Houston and aunt Pat Houston Feb. 4 for “breach of trust,” for not doling out money from Brown’s trust fund to pay the cost of operating the estate, Bossip has learned.

The trust is supposed to pay all of Brown’s estate’s expenses, and the Houstons, as co-trustees, have to sign off on any money coming in or going out.
But Pat and Cissy refused to pay a bill unless they thought it was “reasonable,” Hargrove said in her complaint, and as a result, none of the estate’s expenses were paid. Hargrove said she’s insisted to Pat and Cissy that they release the trust money, but the pair haven’t budged. We’ve reached out to Pat for comment, but Bossip’s efforts to reach Cissy weren’t successful.

One thing that is also interesting is that at no point was Bobby Brown mentioned in this lawsuit, he’s a co-guardian, so we’re not really sure what’s up with that. Cissy also has some input in certain decisions being made with the estate as well. The Browns and Houstons have been through enough already, so hopefully they’ll be able to resolve this soon, outside of court.
