Hip Hop pioneer, Andre ‘Dr. Dre’ Young, is a beast when it comes to music production and business. Years after his time in the iconic rap group, N.W.A, he found further solo success with 1992’s, The Chronic, and 1999’s, 2001. Dre’s been a hitmaker for the majority of his career, though his character has come into question on numerous occasions.

Details Of Employee’s Lawsuit

Although Dre has been credited for helping launch the careers of fellow rappers, Snoop Dogg and Eminem, he’s also had strong allegations thrown at him for past bad behavior. Now those allegations have extended over to people on his payroll, as has been revealed by his former employees in a new lawsuit.

The Blast reports that Dre and his wife, Nicole Young, are being sued by their former employees, Ines Cornejo and Diana Brenes, for shocking work conditions and very little pay:

Cornejo says she worked for the Youngs from September 2015 through September 2018. She says her position was as a laundress — and apparently the family had a lot of laundry to do because Cornejo says she was provided only a few minutes to eat during her shift.

She also says her meal breaks were often later in her shift and were frequently interrupted or cut short entirely. Cornejo also claims she was not given rest breaks or paid for the rest breaks she was not given, as the law dictates.

Brenes, who worked for the Youngs from 2010 until 2017, has made similar claims. However, Brenes claims her meal breaks were cut short, by the Youngs request, to immediately begin working again. The two women are suing the Youngs for failure to provide meal and rest periods, as well as several other labor violations. Dre and his wife Nicole, have yet to comment on the allegations. Why Did Everyone Dr. Dre Was The 1st Hip Hop Billionaire? Here’s Why…

Although it was first reported, in 2014, that Dr. Dre alluded that he’d became the very first hip hop billionaire, that wasn’t necessarily fact. The inaccuracy occurred when Dre and business partner, Jimmy Iovine, sold their Beats By Dre headphone brand to Apple for $3.2 billion.

At that time, they also had a third party in Carlyle Group which acquired a $500M minority shareholding in the company the year prior. In addition to the third party having dibs on the profits from the selling of Beats by Dre, Dr. Dre also had to pay taxes on his portion.

Therefore, his net worth went from $550 million pre-sale, to $800 million post-sale. And that be’s the reason why he officially did NOT become hip hop’s first Black billionaire.

Nevertheless, congrats to Shawn “Jay Z” Carter on tackling that major feat.

Dr. Dre and son, Curtis Young a.k.a. Hood Surgeon [Instagram]
There are some things in life, we just can’t deny. For Dr. Dre- one look at his eldest son, Curtis Young, and he couldn’t deny he is the pappy even if he tried…yet, it took him 20 years to finally meet his now 37 year old seed, who could pass for his twin.

Curtis came into existence when Dr. Dre was just 16 years old and his then high school girlfriend, Cassandra Green, was 15. At age 12, Curtis learned who his real father was, but it wasn’t until age 15 that he began to actively attempt to meet his Pops. It would take him another 5 years to finally meet Dr. Dre at age 20 and in a prior interview with XXL, Curtis Young explained how they met and what he had to go through to make it happen.

“I started trying to meet him and hiring lawyers, whatever I could do,” Curtis Young revealed about seeking his dad, Dr. Dre. “It was rough. It was really hard to finally get the DNA test and meet him.”

When it comes to Dr. Dre’s wife (pictured above), most fans rarely know her name and simply think of her as, well…’Dr. Dre’s wife.’ She’s been married to the former nearly billionaire hip hop legend for 23 years and is often seen, but very rarely heard…at east publicly that is.

Well, now there are several little known facts we’ve discovered about the wife of the legendary producer. For starters, we’ll began calling her by her name, Nicole Young, who also happens to be a lawyer (though she hasn’t been a practicing lawyer for years, given that she’s married to one of the wealthiest hip hop moguls ever).

Nicole’s also known by her maiden name, Nicole Kendra Plotzker. Speaking of names, there’s one other name she is sometimes still referred to as- the surname of her previous wealthy husband, who’s a major legend in his own right.

During her prior marriage, Nicole first became thrusted into the spotlight, which is why the surname attachment to her ex-husband has managed to linger in the public eye. So WHO was Dr. Dre’s wife married to, you ask? Scroll down to find out…

Many will remember during the Golden Era of Hip Hop Dee Barnes, one of the first African American female journalists to host a show dedicated to the culture of hip hop. As the host of Pump It Up Barnes interviewed many of the heavy hitters from that time, and there was an incident involving her and Dr. Dre that many have always had questions about.

On a recent episode of the Wendy Williams Show Barnes sat down with host Wendy Williams to discuss that incident after decades of silence.

Back In The Day

“From the very moment it started, the energy was bad,” said Barnes, who had been friends with Dre and the members of N.W.A. Things reached a tipping point after Barnes’s producer insisted she film a rebuttal from Ice Cube, which aired during the N.W.A segment.

A few months after the episode aired Dre, who was drinking heavily and still mourning the loss of his brother, gripped Barnes up and assaulted her at a Def Jam party in January of 1991. And at the time when it happened let’s just say that ‘remorse’ wasn’t necessarily a part of his vocabulary.

He was notoriously unapologetic in a 1991 interview with Rolling Stone, telling the magazine, “I just did it, you know. Ain’t nothing you can do now by talking about it. Besides, it ain’t no big thing — I just threw her through a door.”

Dre has since apologized for his actions and in an appearance on the HBO docuseries The Defiant Ones Dre directly addressed the assault then issued the following statement;

I’ve done a lot of stupid s‑‑‑ in my life, a lot of things that I wish I could go and take back. I’ve experienced abuse. I’ve watched my mother get abused, you know? So it’s like, there’s absolutely no excuse for it. No woman should ever be treated that way. Any man that puts his hands on a female is a f‑‑‑ing idiot. He’s out of his f‑‑‑ing mind. And I was out of my f‑‑‑ing mind at the time. I f‑‑‑ed up. I paid for it. I’m sorry for it. And I apologized for it.

Though he has apologized Barnes still carries the scars from that traumatic experience around with her to this day.

We all know Andre “Dr. Dre” Young (54) as the N.W.A. legend, who then went on to become co-founder of Death Row Records, who later morphed into the almost billionaire Beats by Dre mogul, that we see before us today. Though the latter business feat was accomplished later in his life, its his gangsta rap-producer persona that he’s most known for. Well, fast forward to now, and his 22 year old biracial son caught many Dr. Dre fans by surprise.

Why is that? Well for several reasons: (1) At first glance, the young brotha does not look much like his legendary Pops; and (2) His eclectic sense of style is more Blink 182 pop-rock, and less like like NWA, Death Row, nor his Pops’ current Forbes List cover-ready business attire.

Despite their differences, Dr. Dre and his son, seem just as as close as any other famous father/son duo- “Lamont and Fred Sanford,” Eddie and Gerald Levert, you name it. So without further ado ILOSM fam,’ scroll down to see why folks were surprised by Dr. Dre’s son…

Dr. Dre Was Rooting For His Daughter

It seems that music mogul Dr. Dre was rooting for his daughter, Truly Young to get into USC before she was accepted.

Backlash from Donations

Dr. Dre caught backlash from a post announcing Truly’s acceptance and saying she got in all on her own and noting “no jail time”, poking fun at the recent USC scandal involving other celebrities and their children.

It wasn’t long before he deleted his post after receiving backlash for donating millions to the school. News surfaced that the music mogul along with a fellow music colleague, Jimmy Iovine donated $70 million in 2013 and established the USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for the Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation.

An Old Instagram Post Resurfaces

Following the recent news of Dr. Dre’s daughter, Truly Young’s acceptance, an old Instagram post from Young’s account has resurfaced.

Young posted a photo of her and her famous father with the caption, “Dad pushing me to go to USC” in May 2018. The post resurfaced after the music mogul made his own Instagram post days ago congratulating his daughter for getting into USC “all on her own”.

Young is set to complete her studies within USC’s School of the Cinematic Arts.

The heated tension and lengthy legal war between Nelly’s girlfriend, Shantel Jackson, and her ex, Floyd Mayweather, do not seem to be simmering down one bit.

In case y’all hadn’t heard, Mayweather and Jackson had a bitter breakup some years ago, and have been embroiled in an equally bitter lawsuit since 2014. Shantel initially sued Floyd for assault, battery, defamation and invasion of privacy (for allegedly publicly revealing she aborted his baby without his knowledge)- all of which he denied. In return, Mawyweather countersued Jackson for stealing major money from him and charging up tons of thousands of dollars on his credit cards without his knowledge- both of which she denied.

As the case prepares to go to trial, both have reportedly added various details to their lawsuits, in a quest to make the other pay up for their alleged wrongdoings.

This go-round, Mayweather has now amended his countersuit with new claims that Shantel unlawfully recorded him several times throughout their lengthy relationship. He’s listed, in detail, what he says was done to him. He also claims that he’s just found out about the recordings in February, when ‘Jackson responded to demands for discovery in their case.’

Dr. Dre wants y’all to know one thing- his daughter just got accepted into the University of Southern California (USC) and unlike some celebrity parents, he did NOT have to pay for her acceptance. In other words, his baby girl earned her way into the institution, just like any other student.

While getting that message across, Dre took a minute to shade the hell outta the celebrity parents involved in the latest USC college scandal. Here’s what he wrote in an online post on Saturday (March 23rd):

“My daughter got accepted into USC all on her own. No jail time!!!”

https://www.instagram.com/p/BvX4JKqBO47/

The N.W.A. OG is referring to USC’s ever-so-scandalous criminal college admission bust that several celebrities were busted in earlier this month (March 2019).

The crime allegedly went down between 2011 to 2018. It is said to have been sparked by USC’s admission counselor, William Rick Singer, who reportedly took major bribes, upwards of $25 million, from wealthy parents eager to bypass the system and instead pay to get their potentially low-performing kids accepted into the university. Approximately 50 people have been named in the bust thus far, including Full House actress, Lori Loughlin, and Desperate Housewives star, Felicity Huffman, who said cops came to her house with guns drawn to arrest her…

Many of us, Old Schoolers, remember comedian/actor, AJ Johnson, from either his hilarious stand-up shows, or his scene stealing comical moments in movies such as Friday, I Got The Hookup, The Players Club and more.

He was dominant in various roles, no matter how large, or small his parts were. In a new interview with Vlad TV, A.J. revealed how one of his roles caused Death Row Records co-founder, Suge Knight, to threaten his life. As alarming as that may be – yet not shocking, given Suge’s history – it is A.J.’s appearance during his Vlad interview, that is catching fans by surprise even more . See why below…

AJ Johnson On Why Suge Reportedly Wanted To Shoot Him

First let’s get into his past beef with Suge Knight and how it all started over an Eazy E music video.

AJ Johnson: “Dr. Dre [Suge’s then Death Row Records partner] put me in his video as ‘Sleazy E’ (a mockery of Dre’s former NWA group member-turned rival, Eazy E).

AJ says that when Dre approached him about doing the “Dre Day” video, he (A.J.) was actually cool with Eazy:

“Me and Eazy were cool. It’s a funny story. [..] So I did the video and I guess Eazy [had] seen it. Eazy called me and he was like, ‘Man, you know everybody thought that was me in the video.'”

Then came the odd turn of events, Eazy wanted AJ to then play him in his clap-back diss to Dre and Death Row Records:

“He [Eazy E] was like, ‘Now you gotta do my video, to show people that wasn’t me!’ I was like, ‘No problem!’ So now I go do Eazy’s video.”

“Suge Knight gets word that I’m doing Eazy’s video. He called me into his office. [At that time] we’d just done half the video, so I had to go back tomorrow to finish it. But Suge called me into the office…[he was] like, ‘Man you can’t finish that video.’ I’m like, ‘I dont have nothing against Dre, I don’t have nothing against Eazy, I’m a comedian, I’m tryna pay my rent.'”

https://youtu.be/Jj4GuRqhNBo

AJ says Suge still was telling him ‘You can’t do it,’ despite the fact that he’d just explained he needed the money to take care of his business.

“I’m like, ‘What you mean I can’t do it? He already paid me.'”

Then this happened:

“Suge pulled a gun out *AJ signals a hand motion, as if he’s slamming a gun on a desk*…’I said you can’t do it’ [said Suge].”

“Alright I won’t do it.”

I went and told Eazy, I said ‘Man I can’t finish the video.’ He was like, ‘Why?’ I [said] ‘Suge told me I can’t do it.'”

After AJ admitted, to Eazy, why he was backing out of the video, he said Eazy was like, “C’mon man, you gon’ let that ni&&a punk you like that?‘ However, AJ feared for his life at that point and felt like it just wasn’t worth the risk. Therefore they came up with a solution:

AJ told Eazy, “‘I know somebody that can finish the video.'” He continued, “[Comedian] Arnez J. finished the video…HE played Eazy, LOL. So in the first half it’s me and in the second half, it’s Arnez J, LOL. […] So the money that Eazy gave to me, I had to give to Arnez J.”

Why Fans Caught Off Guard By A.J.’s Appearance

Now, remember we mentioned that there was something even more alarming than this life threatening revelation AJ exposed? Well, that would be the real life struggle AJ appears to currently be dealing with.

As fans watched A.J. tell his story, ironically he was very coherent, yet many wondered if he was battling an alcohol addiction, crack addiction, some other substance addiction, or a combination of all of the above. Peep his interview clip up top to see what else he revealed and see if y’all notice anything different.

Meanwhile, we wanna wish that brotha the best and send him positive energy. A.J. Johnson is an incredible comedic talent, so hopefully everything is okay with him and he’s still out here building his legacy.
