Remember Amanda the Diva, the former MTV VJ from back in the day? Or maybe you remember her on Nickolodean’s sitcom, My Brother and Me. If not, you may recognize her from her new recurring role on HBO’s hit series, Insecure, which stars Issa Rae. If none of this is ringing a bell, no worries, because her story about her days as one half of Floetry is still interesting.

Amanda The Diva now goes by the name, Amanda Seales, and says she had a tough time after replacing original Floetry member, Natalie Stewart, a few years ago. Natalie and Floetry singer, Marsha Ambrosius, split up at that time. In an effort to keep the ball rolling with the group, Marsha decided to bring on Amanda, who is also a singer, rapper, and poet. Well, that turned into a flat out disaster…and Amanda blames Marsha for most of it.

Floetry Fans reportedly Did Amanda Dirty

In an interview on “The Breakfast Club,” Amanda told it all. She said that Floetry’s fans were so devoted to the original duo — Natalie and Marsha — that they had no desire to see that perfect combination tampered with in any way.

Amanda Seales: “There was just a certain level of dishonesty in terms of like, what I’m walking into. […] We went on the road and they didn’t tell the fans that Natalie had left…and I don’t look like Natalie. And so much of Floetry was about their look…the uniqueness of their look and here I come, this high yellow skinny b*tch…and it’s like ‘Who’s…who’s…who’s THIS?!!'”

Seales then talked about how the fans treated her dirty, stating that one fan “swiped” her ankle while she was on stage, during a show in D.C. when she was first introduced as the new member fans reacted with a vengeance:

“In D.C….at the start of the show, everyone had their backs to the stage, like, in protest of me.”

She Blames Marsha

“My frustration with Marsha was that she did not take an active role in bringing me to the crowd with the love that she would have needed to show me, for them to show love. Like she had all the power to be like ‘Alright y’all, we’re Floetry but we’re different now…Natalie went her own way, but we’re still gonna keep the vibes going. […] “My theory is that they wanted me to quit, so that she could finish the tour as just, like, a ‘Marsha tour’ under the Floetry banner.”

Amanda On The “Shady Things” Marsha Ambrosius Reportedly Did

Seales also revealed that unknown to Marsha and everyone else at that time, she and Floetry’s music director were already in a relationship long before Amanda joined the group. So she said that he would tell her what “shady things” Marsha was doing to her behind her back.

Floetry singer, Marsha Ambrosius, is one of the dopest singers in the game. For years, that’s pretty much all most of her fans have knew her for. Well, in more recent our girl, Marsh,’ has also become known as a mommy to her toddler daughter and wifey to her younger husband, Dez Billups.

In a prior interview with MadameNoire, the two lovebirds spilled the beans about everything- including the fact that Dez was an Uber driver in the beginning of their relationship. They also dished on the “vulgar” sexual questions Marsha’s moms asked her about Dez.

Marsha Made The First Move & Dez Explains How He Became Uber Driver

Based on the way they met, it’s evident that Marsha is a woman who goes after her genuine attraction to a man, instead of what he can do for her financially or professionally.

When they first met, Dez was her bus driver on tour, who soon became an Uber driver after the tour was wrapped:

“For me personally, I always was the type of person to get my own. So even when I did the tour and then I ended up losing my [prior] job for going on tour, I ended up driving Uber. … Everything like the care note…was paid off, so…all I had was a phone bill and maybe a couple other bills that I can do Uber with.”

Dez says at that time, he never asked Marsha for her money because that’s just not his style.

He also revealed that initially, there was no connection between them, because he “was just trying to get paid” for doing his job as a reliable tour bus driver when they first met. However, a few days later Dez checked out Marsha on the low, when they rode in an elevator, but says she paid him no mind. It was only once Marsha told their mutual friend that she wanted to holla at Dez, that their relationship was sparked.

On Their Romance and What Sexual Question Her Mom Asked About Husband

Their first date was at a drive through fast food joint, that ended with a kiss that sent Marsha’s ‘fire & desire’ from 1 to 1000 in seconds- Rick and Teena style. That same night, Marsha called her moms to tell her all bout how much she was instantly feelin’ Dez. However, Marsha’s moms thought she was crazy for boastin’ about Dez after just one kiss. Marsha said her mom felt that she should have allowed Dez to at least “eat you” (oral sex), prior to falling head over heels for him in a day:

“I remember calling my mother that night and she was like, ‘You’re awfully dramatic.’ She was like…’Where’s the details?!! Did he eat you?’ I was like, ‘MOM…don’t even…what are you saying to me right now?!!’ LOL. She said some very vulgar things.” -Marsha

Marsha also admitted that she and Dez ‘sexed each other up,’ like Color Me Badd, 7 days after first talking to one another. According to Marsha, that was a major feat because apparently she wanted to jump on his bones after their first kiss:

“The kiss of all time where I just knew that wow, this was the last person that I’m gonna kiss,” recalled Marsha. She continued, “We didn’t sleep together for like seven days, so it counts. You know, I didn’t go ALL the way [it was] 7 days was- LONG time! … I was trying to keep it together, but the kiss was everything.”

Good thing is that, they’ve managed to last for several years now and are happily raising their little precious mini-me together. Love can come at us from all directions, it’s just up to us to leave ourselves open to receive it.

Had Marsha Ambrosius just viewed Dez as the Uber driver with a tour bus driving gig on the side, she would’ve never been able to see past her superstar lenses to detect the human connection she had with the brotha. Good for them.

If you’re like us, here at I Love Old School Music, and were hoping to eventually get new Floetry music soon, think again. Just when you thought everything was finally all good between Marsha Ambrosius (the ‘Songstress’) and Natalie Stewart (the ‘Floacist’), turns out, it’s just not. Marsha finally revealed why in a 2017 interview with The Breakfast Club.. and she pinpointed three major situations that caused them to break up on three different occasions.

The Pregnancy Drama

At the 6:58 mark of the video below, Marsha talks about how they’d stopped speaking to each other, after tension  over Marsha’s high risk pregnancy of her and fiancee, Dez’s, child. Marsha found out she was pregnant while on tour in 2016 and she says prior to getting pregnant, she already didn’t like smoke on the tour bus because it damages the singing voice. But then this happened:

“If I’m already vocally going for blood every night as I did on that tour, I don’t really want any smoking on the bus…I don’t want no smoke on the bus anyway.” After telling Natalie she was pregnant, Marsha recalled, “I remember telling her [Natalie] and she’s like ‘Oh I kinda figured it out on my own.’ I was like ‘Okay…thanks…you’re welcome’ and moved on.”

Following the dry reaction from Natalie, Marsha claims Natalie continued to smoke on the bus, out of blatant disrespect and disregard for her unborn child.

Marsha then revealed a time when Natalie allegedly betrayed her:

“The band had this app called Zello, and remember the Sprint Chirp phones? You would send a message like ‘Yo what’s up?’ and it would come up on your phone as a voice note on the loud speaker. So…we’re sitting there (Marsha and her then new boyfriend, Dez)…his phone is on the table, we’re at the diner choppin’ it up, getting to know each other type sh*t. And on the loud speaker, [it’s] like ‘Yo Dez you ain’t fu%k yet?’ So I’m like ‘No, please let it play’ because I’m a ball player first, I’ve done locker room talk, so that’s cool. Then another band member chimes in and said ‘Yo you ain’t perp yet? You know she fu%ked everybody in Philly.’ I’m like ‘Wow! My pu$$y’s legendary…Geez!’ (LOL) It’s a myth, I’m trying to figure out all these Philly people I’ve perped.”

But here’s where the ‘funny’ chirps came to a screeching halt:

“Then another one chimes in and it’s her [Natalie]…she was co-signing everyone else’s lines, like ‘Yeah Dez, what’s up with you?’ So I was like okay…once again, affirmation- when someone shows you who they are, believe them…believe them, believe ’em every time. So I let it go, but what they didn’t understand is I had to get on stage every night with these people. […] Guys are gonna be guys, so I can let that slide. … But HER? Nah, not so much, like…you don’t ride for me like that. So I still got on stage every night for the fans and did what I had to do. But that app, Zello, it saves everything as voice notes…it’s all recorded.

At one point in the interview Marsha added “We’ll never be cool, because she’ll just never be there for me like a friend should.” We truly hope they can once and for all reconcile, not just for the sake of music, but for the sake of their genuine love for one another.

We love us some Marsha, here at ILOSM, and we really love Floetry. With hits like, “Say Yes,” “Butterflies,” Getting Late,” “Floetry,” and more, they were killing the music game in the 90s and early 2000’s. Then things took a turn for the worse…

Their Breakup & Baggage

Unfortunately, when Floetry split up in 2006 they had many of us neo-soul lovers damn near about to shed a tear over it because they were part of the last generation of the only true soul music artists left. So them splitting up contributed to the demise the dwindling soul music genre as we knew it.

In mid 2014, Marsha gave her version of the story as to why they split up in the first place:

“When we first started out, I was already writing and producing. Nat was a poet,” said Ambrosius. “I called her to do a song called ‘Fantasize’ I already had and put some poetry to it, and it became a fusion of two solo artists that did something awesome together. So when it works, it works, and it didn’t work anymore.

“When you disagree on where you are in your lives you can’t create.”

But in 2012 Natalie “The Floacist” spoke out to give her side of the story and it’s a tad bit different from Marsha’s:

“Marsha left Floetry, after so much joint success and foundation building, to join Aftermath Records, with no assurance of an album release. Ultimately, holding Floetry to ransom, to pursue a possibility of ‘mainstream’ success and all that was gained, was whatever they would’ve put into her pocket, and a mixtape release entitled ‘Neo Soul is Dead’. This to me is the perfect example of someone selling out, or selling their soul.”

Then Floetry bounced BACK like they never left! In the end of 2014 and once again graced us with that dynamic Floetry sound like this…

Fans absolutely adored Marsha Ambrosius and Natalie Stewart as the ever-successful duo, Floetry. The London, England sistas captivated fans all across the world with their unique, soulful sound. In fact, many fans still express love and admiration for the “Say Yes” singers to this day…

But, after 10 years of heating up the R&B scene together, Marsha and Natalie abruptly split in 2006. Then, to make matters worse, fans never really knew why they decided to go their separate ways. So, what really happened? After years of speculation, Marsha has spoken out with the truth about their disheartening split.

Matters Of The Heart:

Everyone knows how matters of the heart can impact all areas of life. When love is in the air, almost anything can happen. Unfortunately, there are also cases when love is blind. Apparently, that’s what happened when Natalie Stewart fell in love. However, the love affair was reportedly short-lived because the relationship took an abusive turn.

During an interview with Ebony magazine, Marsha revealed how hard it was to watch Natalie endure abuse.

“I know what happened. You know what happened. Let’s move on,” Ambrosius told Ebony. “But I couldn’t, because if the other person is in a very damaging, abusive relationship and you’re the best friend that’s watching all of this unfold before your eyes… I can’t see you die. I don’t want to be here for that and it’s unfair for me to see you go through this.”

Letting Go:

Marsha admitted how painful it was to watch Natalie’s downward spiral and the situation had taken an emotional toll on her as well. Unfortunately, they decided to go their separate ways. “I felt me protecting what I felt happened and not wanting to disclose these stories was protecting her. I remember when we got into an argument [afterwards] she said, ‘What are you protecting me for?’” Ambrosius said. “I was like, you’re absolutely right. I’ve damaged my own heart, taking on the burden of someone else’s bulls**t and vice versa. But it’s what I do. I’m a loyal person to the bitter end. I’m going to try and sugarcoat this s**t until it f**king stinks. I do it every time.”

Reunited & It Felt So Good, But…:

In 2015, the ladies decided to reunite. Despite all they’ve been through, Natalie admitted it was like magic when they hit the stage together in London for the first time in eight years. “Marsha and I touched a stage in December for the first time in eight years, and it was like autopilot,” said Natalie.

Marsha also shared her reaction to the heartfelt reunion. It was definitely a turning point for the duo. “We just embraced, tears fell, looked over old photos, brought up old jokes. This is my friend. This is the person that I loved,” Marsha said. “We didn’t have to rehearse. We had to hear the music and there we were, right back on stage, side by side,” she said. “That never died. What does is, old feelings, old habits.” Unfortunately, they’ve broken up again…damn. For those who don’t know, Marsha’s brother, Marvin, is a successful fitness trainer and the owner of Fit Freaks. He’s created his own brand of Insanity HIIT workouts called Fit In 5. Although it may seem like a 5-minute workout wouldn’t leave you gasping for air, apparently, Marvin gets it done in little to no time. Of course, women are quite taken by the brotha’s looks,  but unfortunately his admirers will have to look elsewhere, because he’s a happily married man. Another fun fact about Marsha’s family is that apparently, she isn’t the only musician in the Abrosius fam.’  Marvin’s son, Skye Ambrosius, has also followed in his auntie Marsha’s musical footsteps. Skye is a BEAST on drums…to say he’s so young. Marvin recently shared a video on Instagram showcasing his son’s skills. The video shows the young drummer cuttin’ up on the drum set, while his adorable little sister danced to the beat. Needless to say, the video is a heartwarming, candid moment, but that’s not the only obvious thing about it. It’s easy to see Skye has a bright future ahead in music. Check out the video below:

One half of Floetry, Marsha Ambrosius, has a lot to celebrate these days. She’s about to jump the broom, she has a wnderful daughter, a thriving singing career, and on Monday (August 9, 2017)she hit a milestone- she celebrated her 40th birthday.

We came across a birthday video Marsha posted online of her birthday celebration and were pleasantly surprised to see her precious baby girl, Nyla. Why the surprise you ask? Because it seemed like just yesterday that Marsha gave birth to Nyla, but now her little mini-me is about 8 months old and as cute as a button.

Many of you may recall when Marsha surprised her fans with her pregnancy announcement in 2016. As equally surprising was her new relationship, which at that time was a little over a year long.
