When it comes to weight loss, we’ve all heard of various methods and products that claim to be the ultimate solution. Recently, Xscape singer/songwriter and retired “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” star, Kandi Burruss, opened up about her experience with trying the popular weight loss medication, Ozempic. In a candid revelation, Burruss admitted that the drug not only failed to curb her appetite, but also left her feeling emotionally drained.

Kandi decided to give Ozempic a try in hopes of shedding some pounds that she says she’d recently gained. However, her experience with the med’ was far from what she anticipated. Speaking about her disappointment, Burruss revealed, “I didn’t lose any weight, and it made me feel depressed.”

During her interview with Page Six’s “Virtual Reali-Tea” podcast, Kandi highlighted the emotional toll that unsuccessful weight loss attempts can have on folks:

“Last year, I tried it,” Kandi, 48, shared, while simultaneously promoting her new partnership with the weight loss product, Hydroxycut.

“I saw so many people who were trying it (Ozempic) and losing weight,” Kandi continued, stating that she knows a “ton” of women —- including her former “RHOA” cast-mate, Marlo Hampton —- who had success with Ozempic.

“So I was like, ‘OK, I’m going to try this.’ And I didn’t lose any weight,” confessed Kandi.

She also revealed that her own doctor was confused by her body’s non-response to the medication:

“My doctor was like, ‘I don’t know what the problem is, I’m not seeing this in other people,’” she recalled.

“It didn’t curb my appetite. I know some people are like, ‘Oh, I can’t eat.’ Not me! I was eating appetizers, a regular meal and dessert, OK?” Kandi explained. “It didn’t stop anything for me.”

The RHOA alum then touched on the depression that followed after her Ozempic run:

“When you see it worked for other people and it doesn’t work for you, it makes you depressed,” stated Kandi. “Realistically, it makes you feel like, ‘What is wrong? Why is it not working for me?’”

Kandi then revealed that she’d gained weight in 2023, after deciding not to continue her years-long run on “The Real Housewives of Atlanta.”:

“After I left ‘Housewives,’ I was eating good, living good. Now, mind you, I was already 10 pounds over my desired weight at the top of the year. But then, when I announced that I was not going to do ‘Housewives’ anymore, I was eating dessert every day, taking trips, just living it up. … Before I knew it, I was like 170-something pounds. And it was not cute,” explained Kandi.

As y’all already know, Kandi is a solid businesswoman. So, her venture into her latest partnership with Hydroxycut is likely part of the reason why she’s sharing her prior bad experience with Ozempic. The competition is heavy in the weight-loss game, therefore…smart move for Kandi to build up a lil’ hype for the now-underdog in this battle- which in this case is Hydroxycut.

Kandi said she’s had success in the past with Hydroxycut, so now she’s giving it another go, and has supposedly lost 10 pounds so far as a result:

“My team, they reached out to the Hydroxycut team and we worked it out. So I started out just changing my eating habits and using Hydroxycut twice a day and I lost 10 pounds in like three and a half weeks. … I’m feeling good.” – Kandy

After hitting “170-something” pounds in 2023, Kandi revealed it felt like “a lot” for her petite-sized 5-foot-3 build. She’s now hoping to reach “130-something” pounds in due time:

“My ultimate goal is to basically lose 20 pounds to get back to where I was last year, overall. But I would love, love to overall lose 30 so that I can be into my 130s. I have this joke, like, I haven’t weight 130-something since I was 30-something,” she says with a laugh. …

It has been years since I felt like I was real slim and trim — slim-thick, as I like to call it. It’s been a minute and I would love to just see myself get back to that, to my best self.”

Good luck to Kandi on her weight loss journey. On side note…she was just as beautiful at 170-something pounds, as she was at her prior weight of 130-ish. Nothin’ wrong with a lil’ meat on them bones Kandi…but lookin’ good either way Ms. Lady!

Riley Burruss Thanks Her Supporters

After her mother posted her progress, Riley decided to thank her many supporters who have been flooding her social media timeline with encouraging words. She also showed love to her trainer and friends who helped her:

Riley, who at 5’9″ is much taller than her 5’3″ mother, was always a beautiful young lady at 220 lbs., just as she is now at 168 lbs. We love the fact that no matter what, she seems happy in her own skin and proud of herself. The reason many are impressed by Valerie’s new venture, is because not only is she still making new strides in her career at 71, she’s also coming behind a quote-unquote “current” star, Kandi. Granted, Kandi Burruss’ musical accomplishments doesn’t come close to that of Valerie Simpson’s, who helped pave the way for artists, like Kandi, to follow. “Set It Off Actor” Is Her Co-Star

Speaking of “Set It Off,” guess who Simpson’s new “Chicago Musical” co-star is? None other than “Set It Off” actor, Chaz Lamar. Remember him? You may not recall Chaz’s real name, but if you’ve seen that classic 90’s film, you definitely remember his face. Who could forget, the cat who played “Stony’s” (Jada Pinkett-Smith) lil’ brother that had all of us tearing up when a trigger-happy cop shot him outside that apartment complex?

Kandi Reveals Fun Fact About Tiny’s Daughter

On Tuesday (March 20, 2018), Tiny’s daughter/singer, Zonnique, celebrated her 22 birthday and Kandi took to Instagram to send b-day wishes to her. In doing so, she revealed a previously unknown fact about the day Zonnique was born that took many of her fans by surprise. It was actually Kandi, who did what dads would normally have the honor of doing in the delivery room during Zonnique’s birth:

Where Was Zonnique’s Daddy?

After learning that Kandi cut Tiny’s umbilical cord, many are wondering where Zonnique’s biological father, Zebo, was during that moment. That answer is still unclear, but what we do know, is that Tiny’s relationship with him ended when Zonnique was 3 and Tiny later met her now-husband, T.I., who’s raised Zonnique since she was 5 years old, according to Tiny. However, Zonnique does apparently have some contact with her biological father, but not much. That was evident when Zonnique had to interject into a very heated online argument Tiny had with Zebo’s wife, Cheryl, a while back.

The Heated Argument Between Tiny & Zonnique’s Stepmom

As we previously reported, Tiny had an all out war with Zonnique’s stepmother, Cheryl, right there on social media for ALL the world to see. But after seeing how Tiny and her daughter blasted back, the stepmom probably wishes she would have just picked up the phone to iron out their grievances. This turned really bad, REALLY fast…(contains graphic language below).

It all started innocently enough, T.I. posted a photo of himself (below) with his stepdaughter, Zonnique, and the simple caption, “Mines!!!!”…

The stepmom, Cheryl, slammed T.I.’s post, with a post of her own – a side by side photo of T.I. with his biological daughter, Deyjah, and T.I.’s stepdaughter, Zonnique, with her biological dad, Zebo, with the caption, “Enough said @Troubleman31…

Then all HELL broke lose after Tiny saw it…

Cheryl then took shots at T.I.’s and Tiny’s parenting skills, insinuating that they put up a front for the cameras: “Ain’t no parent of the year award being given over there until them cameras rolling.” Of course Tiny clapped back yet again…

Zonnique got tired of watching the battle over her, so she jumped in and traded online blows with the stepmom:

Details on Mo’Nique’s & Whoopi’s Tense Exchange

On Thursday (2-23-18), Mo’ met her match when she sat down to chop it up with Whoopi Goldberg on The View. They discussed the situation in greater detail and as Mo’Nique was telling her side of the situation again, Whoopi had to stop her and “school” her about how she should’ve handled that particular situation for the greater good of her career going forward. Whoopi also reminded her about the help she tried to extend to Mo’ at that time. However, Mo’Nique was sticking to her guns about the fact that she was not contractually wrong/nor obligated to do film promotion for free. Mo’Nique- “I’ve done my job”…

Mo’Nique: “Eight years ago I did a movie called Precious,” said Mo. “On that film I received $50,000. That was not my argument, nor my fight because that’s what I signed up for,” she said. “My deal was with a man named Lee Daniels. I did all of my contractual obligations and I was done. Then I started getting phone calls from Lee Daniels, Tyler Perry and Oprah Winfrey. They wanted me to come work for free. To go over to Cannes and promote this film internationally. I said to them, ‘Guys, my deal is with Lee Daniels and I’ve done my job.’ And they all agreed. […] And this is what happens, in my humble opinion, when you don’t go up to the hotel room,” she said.

Whoopi- ‘Hol’ up, let me school you’…

Whoopi: “I’m going to stop you because contractually, when you make a movie, regardless of who you sign the deal with, your job is to go and promote said movie,” said Whoopi. “And we’ve had this conversation and I said if you had called me I could’ve schooled you on what was expected.”

Mo’Nique: “And we did have that conversation and what I said to you my sweet sister, I said, ‘Whoopi, at what point do we stop saying the next time?’” Whoopi asked, “What next time?”

Mo’Nique- ‘I’m not letting them bully me’…

“If I had done something wrong contractually, they would’ve sued me,” added Mo’Nique. “The reason why no one could do anything to me contractually is because they found out I did nothing wrong contractually. So, when they asked me to come overseas to promote the film — when I said, ‘Guys, I’m spending time with my family, I’m going to pass.’ […] What Tyler Perry showed me, Lee Daniels, Oprah Winfrey and Lionsgate, when you don’t do what we ask you to do, we’ll take your livelihood. So for eight years, my family has suffered, my career has suffered because what I would not allow those entities to do was bully me.”

Could Mo’Nique Learn Something From Whoopi

Although Mo’ is correct in her statements, that she was not contractually obligated to promote the film free of charge, Whoopi seems to have been trying to explain to her, that there is a difference between sacrificing a little to pay your dues in the game, versus being messed over. Whoopi has managed to have a very long career in Hollywood and outside of Hollywood, paving the way for comedians/actresses like Mo’Nique. Therefore, although Mo’ has a point, because it is never okay to be ‘bullied,’ she still could have maybe learned a thing or two from Whoopi about how to successfully play the game and come out on top in the end. At any rate, I still respect Mo’Nique’s fearlessness to stand up and speak out for whatever she feels is right.

Many others agree and disagree with Mo’ on this one and have voiced their opinions on social media. Many of y’all may remember when we previously introduced you to LaMicah Levert. Not only is he the spitting image of his pops, but just like his daddy, he’s a very good friend to Mo’Nique. Kandi Burruss, Stands With Mo’Nique

Also, as we previously reported, in addition to Levert’s look-alike son ridin’ with Mo’Nique, Gerald’s ex-girlfriend/Xscape singer, Kandi Burruss, showed love to Mo’Nique online as well. By the way, even though Kandi and Gerald were no longer dating at the time of his passing in 2006, Kandi and LaMicah are still very close to this day. So it was only natural that they both shared the same photo, on Instagram, at the same time. In a more lighthearted homage, The Real Housewives of Atlanta star jokingly played on some of the wording of Mo’Nique’s Netflix boycott message, but it was all in good fun:

When It Rains It Pours…Mo’Nique’s Tax Problems

Unfortunately for Mo’Nique, as she continues to fight for what she feels is right within Hollywood, just like the Old School saying goes: ‘When it rains, it pours.’ Her current tax troubles are definitely an example of that. It was reported that ‘Uncle Sam’ is after Mo’Nique for owing ‘more than $560,000 – $560,625.72 to be exact. Reports suggest that the latest lien, filed in 2016, was the result of unpaid taxes from 2013 and 2014. “In 2016, she had a tax lien filed against her for the years ending 2013 and 2014 for a total of $389,904.98. Last fall, the federal government said she was late paying her taxes in 2015 as well to the tune of $170,720.74.”‘

Mo’Nique has proven herself to be a strong woman, so although this is probably a pretty tense time for her, she’ll more than likely be able to bounce back from it.

Since then, many fans and celebs -including actress, Jada Pinkett-Smith, and comedian, Wanda Sykes- have given Mo’Nique props for having the courage speak up. On the flip side, there have also been many fans and celebs who have disagreed with Mo’Nique’s stance. Through it all though, there is one person who’s ridin’ with Mo’, even if not one other soul on earth does. That person is the 26 year old son of the late R&B legend, Gerald Levert.

Many of y’all may remember when we previously introduced you to LaMicah Levert. Not only is he the spitting image of his pops, but just like his daddy, he’s a very good friend to Mo’Nique. Gerald and Mo’Nique go way back. Although many believed they dated, Gerald Levert confirmed in an interview that they were just homies. But because fans assumed there was romance, he said Mo’Nique, being a comedian, playfully played on that. He thought it was funny and so did she, so there’s the end of that rumor. Anywho, back to LaMicah’s defense of Mo’Nique- the woman he’s known since he was a youngin.’

Well, now Kandi is revealing that her refusal to not join her Xscape group members for the recording of their new album, has nothing to do with tension and everything to do with ‘legacy.’ In a recent interview with Madamenoire, Kandi claims her reason for turning the ladies down was because she does not wanna destroy Xscape’s musical legacy:

Via MN: “As soon as the girls and I started talking initially I had told them I didn’t really want to do new music and the main reason is because I feel like I don’t want to mess with our legacy,” Kandi told us. “When we were a group we had three platinum albums, all of our albums were hits, we never had a flop album and things are not how they used to be back then.”

I understand Kandi’s point of not wanting to jack up Xscape’s legacy with a possibly new mediocre album that ends up flopping. However, I couldn’t help but wonder if there’s something Kandi isn’t telling us…

But Is This The Real Reason?

Although Kandi’s ‘don’t wanna destroy the group’s legacy’ is a valid one, could her decision also have a lil’ something to do with money? It’s not a secret that if it were not for the careers of Kandi and Tiny over the past few years, the fan excitement of Xscape’s reunion would’ve probably been lackluster. Don’t get me wrong, Xscape’s fans would have still appreciated the nostalgia of it all. However, Xscape packing arenas in today’s times (like they’re doing now), probably would NOT have happened without Kandi and Tiny turning their individual brands into household names, through Real Housewives of Atlanta and T.I. and Tiny: The Family Hustle. Tiny’s and Kandi’s reality TV fame has helped their old fans reconnect with them and also allowed them to gain millions more fans who probably had no clue who Xscape was.

As a result of that reality TV fanfare and also Kandi’s and Tiny’s songwriting credits (among other projects), Kandi is said to be worth the most out of the group, with a net worth of approximately $35 million. Tiny’s reported net worth is said to be about $5 million (her husband T.I. is reportedly worthed $50M). Not sure of Tamika and La Tocha Scott’s net worth, but it’s said to fall way beneath Kandi’s and Tiny’s.

So it’s possible that Kandi’s refusal to do new music with Xscape may (or may not) be attributed to her wanting to avoid friction with the ladies, by demanding she get paid a much larger cut of the album’s earnings. Although, that is typically how that type of situation would go. Why? Because she and Tiny now bring far more to the table than Tamika and La Tocha- their even playing field became unbalanced many years ago. Therefore any new Xscape album sales, digital downloads, etc. would have a lot to do with Tiny’s and Kandi’s popularity and it subsequently would be well within their rights to ask for larger pieces of the pie, just saying. It’s not personal, it’s just business. But of course, this is just a hypothetical theory, for now, we’ll just roll with the ‘legacy’ excuse Kandi gave.
