Katt Williams; Cedric the Entertainer; Rickey Smiley; Kevin Hart; Steve Harvey

Katt Williams has been out here cuttin’ UP in these social media streets. In a recent interview on Shannon Sharpe’s “Club Shay Shay” podcast, Katt Williams, was droppin’ shade on a plethora of comics and other celebs he disapproves of, including Cedric the Entertainer, Kevin Hart, Steve Harvey, Rickey Smiley, and more.

On Wednesday, January 3, 2024, Williams let Sharpe know that he had an issue with the untruths that “low-brow comedians” had previously spoken about him on Sharpe’s show, and he referred to Cedric, Harvey, and Smiley as a “group.” He noted that the trio had been together for three decades, and each of them knew the others’ secrets. “It’s the age of truth,” he said, “and these guys aren’t just three strangers.”

Katt Slammed Cedric The Entertainer For ‘Stealing’ His Joke

Cedric the Entertainer

Katt Williams stated that his best joke from 1998, which he was performing on “ComicView,” was then stolen by Cedric the Entertainer, who watched him in the audience and then came backstage to compliment him on it. Two years later, Cedric employed the same joke as his closing one on “The (Original) Kings Of Comedy,” without any alterations, according to Katt.

At first, Katt says he overlooked Cedric’s joke as an imitation, but reconsidered that notion after Cedric denied it was taken from Katt’s work:

“He thought I was a minor comedian and that he could use the joke and not get caught,” Katt Williams argued.

Cedric the Entertainer Responds

Cedric the Entertainer’s response to Katt Willaims’ claims

In the comments section of an Instagram post that featured a clip from the “Club Shay Shay” podcast, Cedric the Entertainer commented on the allegation from Williams, labeling it “revisionist history.”

Ced’  said  that Katt’s view was irrelevant, because Cedric has now starred in more than 40 movies, put on specials, and had his own brand. He also made reference to “Katt in the Hat”, which was held at the Gibson Amphitheater.

Katt Williams Shuts Down Rickey Smiley’s Claim That He Was Supposed To Have His Role In “Friday After Next”

In 2002, Williams and Smiley were part of the cast of the third installment of Ice Cube’s “Friday” series, “Friday After Next.” Williams was cast as “Money Mike,” and Smiley was cast as “Santa Claus.” In a prior interview, Smiley had told Sharpe that he had initially been assigned the role of “Money Mike.”

Shannon Sharpe; Katt Williams; Rickey Smiley

Williams has now come back to shut that claim down with the quickness:

“This man told you he had Katt Williams’ role. He was going to be Money Mike, and Katt Williams was going to be the Santa Claus,” Katt said to Shannon Sharpe. “We auditioned in Los Angeles. I was audition No. 201. Two-hundred Black comedians auditioned for the role of Money Mike with me. You’re saying all 201 of us was auditioning, and you had already had the role and had already shot the role in four days?”

Katt then declared that he later had a contractual term included which mandated that he would only collaborate with Smiley if he was clothed in a dress for his parts, due to what occurred on “Friday After Next”. When asked why he included that contractual term in Rickey’s contracts, Katt claimed that actors, like Rickey Smiley and Tyler Perry, both excel at playing female characters, but they are not convincing as men.

A few years later, Smiley and Williams starred together in the release of “First Sunday” in 2008. Katt declared that Rickey Smiley’s next movie was ‘First Sunday” Rickey was wearing a dress, which Katt claims was required by his contract.

Rickey Smiley Responds

Rickey Smiley responded to Katt on Thursday morning during his “Rickey Smiley Morning Show, pretty much saying that Katt needs to get his facts all the way together. Check out those clips below…

Katt Williams Slammed Steve Harvey For ‘Copying Mark Curry’s Sitcom’

Katt Williams then went at Steve Harvey, who acted as a high school music instructor in the 1996 sitcom, “The Steve Harvey Show.” According to Katt, Steve jacked the idea of his sitcom from comedian, Mark Curry. Curry played teacher, “Mark Cooper,” in the sitcom “Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper,” which was first broadcast in 1992:

“The same Steve that went to go watch Mark Curry do his whole sitcom and then stole everything Mark Curry had,” Williams said. “Now Steve got a sitcom where he’s the principal and he wears a suit.”

“The Steve Harvey Show” sitcom

Williams mocked Harvey’s acting abilities, mocking Steve’s prior statement that he ‘had no wish to pursue a career in the movies’:

“You couldn’t be a movie star,” Williams said. “There are 30,000 new scripts in Hollywood every year. Not one of them asked for a country bumpkin Black dude that can’t talk good … and look like Mr. Potato Head. There ain’t none. You have to have range.”

Steve Harvey Seemingly Responds

After Katt’s interview went viral, Steve Harvey seems to have responded with a simple video message, and a caption that reads:

“Everything I got, I asked God for.”

Katt Called Out Kevin Hart…Kevin Responded

As for Kevin Hart, Katt referred to him as the “Jussie Smollett of comedy.” He says that for many of the roles he turned down due to not wanting to compromise the type of comedy he stood for, Kevin Hart gladly came behind him and gathered up, without any true talent. He also referred to Kevin as an ‘industry plant’ who never earned real clout in the comedy game prior to being put on by Hollywood “gatekeepers.”

Kevin Hart responded to Katt with the following social media post…

Guess it’s safe to say…Katt Williams is kickin’ off 2024 with a bang.

Steve Harvey discussed what Lenny Williams (“Cause I Love You” singer) told him when they first met years ago…and it’s a really cool story to witness…

What Steve Harvey Revealed About Meeting Lenny Williams

In 2014, Steve Harvey revealed — on his radio show — that the legendary Lenny Williams and his wife approached him at a public event…with Lenny telling him, “Man thank you SO much for saving my life…you really saved my life.” Then Lenny’s wife said, “We thank you so much.”

Steve confessed that at that time he had no idea why Mr. and Mrs. Williams were thanking him. However, Lenny then explained to Steve that after the comedian consistently played his 1975 hit, “Cause I Love You,” during his iconic “Kings Of Comedy Tour” routine, the sales for that song shot through the roof. Because Lenny owns the rights to his song, those sales are what pulled him and his wife out of a bad financial position, according to Steve’s recollection of what Lenny explained to him. Lenny said he also started getting booked for shows a lot more.

Steve Harvey later stated on his radio show, that it wasn’t him, but rather “the grace of God” … because he had no clue Lenny Williams was going through financial troubles at that time. Harvey also expressed that Lenny’s story really touched him, and that Lenny probably has no idea how much he, in turn, affected his life too.

Wow, Lenny did what many artists from back in the day haven’t been able to do – retained the ownership of his own music…and decades later, it paid off for him.

Steve Harvey’s stepson; Steve Harvey

ILOSM fam’…many of us may not have always agreed with Steve Harvey on his prior political views (and understandably so)…but within the past few years, it’s been cool to witness his “give back & inspirational” stage of his life. In fact, Steve saw part of that “give back” come full circle when his family appeared on the “Steve Harvey Show” a while back. It was an emotional moment for Harvey, who was blown away by how he’s affected seven of the most important people in his life.

Since his impact on his family’s lives was so great, they came up with an amazing way to visually express their love for him.

On the Steve Harvey Show, one by one the children took center stage to reflect on their fondest moments with their father. The seven Harvey kids – which included Steve’s four biological children from his previous two marriages and his wife, Marjorie Bridges-Woods’ three biological children he helped raise – all spoke from their hearts. They laughed and shared emotional tears of joy.

But it was Steve’s stepson who bought him to tears. Check out the heartwarming clip, starting at the 4 minute mark below.

By the end of the emotional segment, Steve was left in tears. He admitted that all he’s done – his entire career and the successful moves he’s made – was for the betterment of his family. “I got 4 full-time jobs for them. So that when I am done, I want you all to just have remembered that somebody cared more about you than himself.”

A beautiful moment indeed.

Wow, Lenny did what many artists from back in the day haven’t been able to do – retained the ownership of his own music, because he knew his worth…and in the end, it paid off for him.  For artists, like Lenny, its not only about their worth, it’s also about them possessing the ability to create music (their intellectual properties) that will still have earning potential decades after it was created.

Other Old School soul artists have been successful -and not so successful- at reaping the benefits of their intellectual properties throughout the years…

George Clinton

George Clinton, “The Funk Pioneer” has worked with artists from all genres and insists that allowing his music to be sampled has been instrumental in keeping his career alive. “We forged ourselves an alliance with the [Dr.] Dre’s and Snoop [Dogg] and [Ice Cube] and all of them,” said Clinton but unfortunately, he is STILL in court fighting for the rights to all of his music that he lost the rights to in his bankruptcy a few years back.

Sam & Dave (The “Soul Man” and “If Something Is Wrong With My Baby” singers) practically had their entire life’s story jacked and recreated in the movie, “Soul Men” (starring Bernie Mack and Samuel Jackson), but have yet to be compensated for it and that’s why Sam Moore has been battling it out with the Weinstein Co. (the film studio responsible for creating the movie, Soul Men) for the past 6 years and things like this definitely make Weinstein co. look suspicious because according to variety.com this is what went down:

Disgraced film producer, Harvey Weinstein, made some effort to involve Sam Moore in the project. On Jan. 15, 2008, he emailed his brother Bob, the head of Dimension Pictures, which produced the film, writing: “You have to have Sam participate in this movie.”

According to Moore’s wife, Weinstein Co. representatives eventually call with a last-minute offer for a cameo role for Moore, but it came with strings attached. “A day or two before they shot a car-crash scene in Memphis, they offered Sam a cameo role for $1,000, but they said that we had to get down there immediately” – the couple lives in Arizona –“and they also wanted Sam to sign a complete and full release of any and all claims and rights that he had to the movie,” Joyce explains, adding: “Needless to say, we never even went to look for a suitcase.”

(Inset photo) Fred “Rerun” Berry; (R) Steve Harvey

It’s been 18 years since legendary “What’s Happening” actor, Fred “Rerun”  Berry, sadly passed away in 2003, yet years later, his name still made headlines…as the result of Rerun’s widow, Essie Berry. In 2018, Mrs. Berry was embroiled in a heated legal battle with comedian/host, Steve Harvey, who eventually responded to her claims.

Rerun’s Widow’s $5 Million Claims Against Steve Harvey

Fred “Rerun” Berry’s widow/civil rights activist, Essie Berry

As we previously reported, in March 2018, Essie Berry filed a $5 million lawsuit against Steve Harvey, accusing him stalking, harassment, and ‘murder of her emotional state of mind.’

In the lawsuit, Essie claimed that in 2013 she was approached to do a reality TV show titled, “Widow, Wives, and Ex Celebrity Wives,” and she asked Steve Harvey’s ex-wife, Mary Vaughn, to join the show. Essie claims when Steve caught wind of her offer to his ex-wife, he proceeded to enforce the sealed gag order that legally prohibits Mary Vaughn from discussing Harvey in public. Mrs. Rerun also claimed that she had no clue there was a sealed gag order in place at that time, but claims Steve then “defamed” her, by allegedly accusing her of being an “extortionist” and “co-conspirator.”

Here’s what was reported:

Via RadarOnline: “Steve Harvey continued to make attempts to shatter and murder Ms. Berry’s emotional state of mind through the Texas court’s with a lie for years,” Berry wrote. “Mr. Harvey made attempts to silence Ms. Berry through malicious prosecution in order to protect his super stardom image. … With feelings of hopelessness and depression, Ms. Berry was forced to be silent for four years in order to protect what little image she had left, and to protect Mary — while Mr. Harvey paraded around making false allegations against both Ms. Berry and Mary,” she continued. […] She also is requesting $5 million and an apology.

Then Steve Harvey responded…

Harvey Took Legal Action: ‘Enough is enough’

Steve Harvey

In April 2018, it went largely unnoticed by many, that Steve clapped back at Mrs. Rerun and her $5 million lawsuit, in court docs. And it doesn’t look like he had any plans on paying Essie one red cent of what she was asking for at that time:

Via RadarOnlne: In Los Angeles Superior Court documents filed April 9, 2018…Harvey challenges the claims made by…Fred Rerun Berry’s widow, Essie. Harvey seeks to throwout Berry’s lawsuit against him “on the grounds that the complaint fails to state facts sufficient to constitute a cause of action against Mr. Harvey.”

In the notice of demurrer, Harvey’s team alleges Berry is just an “agent” of Harvey’s ex, Mary Vaughn, and was enlisted to tarnish his reputation. “Thirteen years ago a Texas court entered a divorce decree between Mary Vaughn and Broderick (Steve) Harvey. Unwilling to move on with her life, Ms. Vaughn has engaged in prolonged [pattern] of harassment and vexatious litigation against Mr. Harvey that has resulted in four separate injunction orders and a judicial finding of contempt against her for violating court orders on at least twenty separate occasions. […] “Undeterred, and unrepentant, Ms. Vaughn has enlisted her acknowledged agent, Plaintiff Essie Berry, to continue her quixotic campaign to tarnish Mr. Harvey’s reputation and re-litigate the divorce case. … [Essie Berry’s] “rambling and incoherent pleading is woefully deficient… Enough is enough,” Harvey’s legal team argues.

Harvey’s official court hearing – to dispute Rerun’s widow, Essie Berry’s, claims – was reportedly on June 7, 2018. Then came Mrs. Rerun’s restraining order…

Rerun’s Widow Granted Restraining Order In 2020

Essie Berry, widow of actor, Fred “Rerun” Berry

In 2020, Black News reported that Essie Berry filed for a restraining order against Steve Harvey:

On August 18, 2020…Essie was finally granted a restraining order from Judge Thomas S. Garza of the Superior Court of San Bernardino County in California. She says that for the last three years, Steve Harvey and his constituents have been using their resources as a vehicle for threatening phone calls, vulgar language, cyberbullying, text messages, emails, and countless other harassment tactics to “destroy her soul.”

She also claims that Steve Harvey has invaded her privacy by placing pictures of her home on the Internet.

Essie is happy about the restraining order but says that she won’t fully feel that justice has been served until she has received an official police report. The local police department, however, seems to be taking the side of Steve Harvey.

She comments, “Steve Harvey is a dangerous and ruthless man that hides behind his riches and fame. There is a dark side that resides within his soul. He is a manipulator, liar, and intimidator that threatens, cheats, bullies, and harasses Black women that he feels has no power.”

On a side note…pretty sure that back in the day when Steve was watching “What’s Happening” on TV, he probably never imagined in a million years that he’d be legally battling “Rerun’s” wife.

Steve Harvey

Steve Harvey was married to Mary Lee Harvey for almost 10 years, but things took an unexpected turn for the worst when Steve reportedly cheated on his ex-wife with his current wife, Marjorie Harvey. For those who don’t remember, the former couple’s highly publicized divorced was quite nasty and bitter as hell. Although Mary was allegedly given three of the couple’s properties and reportedly received $40,000 a month until 2009, there were a number of things about the ordeal that the public may not know.

In recent years, Mary has spoken out about the divorce, and the ‘mysterious things’ that occurred during their divorce proceedings. From her and Steve having the same divorce lawyer, to her sealed divorce documents that she says she doesn’t even have access to, Mary’s told it ALL! She also opening up about her unfortunately estranged relationship with their son, Wynton.

Fighting A Losing Battle:

Steve Harvey with his then-wife, Mary Harvey

For many years, Mary claims she was silenced and she believes Steve’s money played a major role in the decisions that were made where her divorce was concerned. After the divorce, she was faced with numerous harsh realities. She even admitted she was abandoned by family members and friends; and even professional relationships were severed after she was stripped of her ex-husband’s celebrity status. In addition to the broken relationships and financial problems, Mary revealed she’s been ostracized by many people she considered trustworthy.

However, that’s not all. Mary found herself behind bars on a number of occasions. For those who don’t know, she was hit with a child support order that she was unaware of and wasn’t supposed to pay. Then she was faced with numerous restrictions associated with a gag order that prohibited her from talking to individuals about her life if Steve would be mentioned during the discussions.

Mary Harvey On Their Son, Wynton:

In addition to the ongoing legal problems, Mary also lost custody of their son, Wynton, amid the divorce battle, she says. But things didn’t stop there. In 2013, Mary was arrested for an alleged violation of a court order. As a result of the arrest, Mary spent Christmas of 2013 behind bars and at the time, her release date was set for Jan. 17, 2014. In a prior Youtube interview she became emotional when speaking about losing custody of her son:

“Everyday I wake up, Wynton is on my mind. All day, everyday. I cry throughout the day, because I feel like somebody reached in and pulled Wynton out of me. That’s how I feel, because we were very close.”

During a previous interview with Fox 4, Mary adamantly insisted she did not violate any order. “I didn’t violate any court orders,” said Vaughn. “This is about ‘You’re not supposed to be talking to anybody about your divorce.’ That’s what they’re saying. I’m like, this is America. I was not expecting a four hour long hearing without an attorney,” she said. “Am I angry? Yes,” said Vaughn. “I missed six years of my son’s life and I can’t get those years back. I’m just a mother who wants to have access to my son without interference,” she said. “I’m tired of getting pulled down to McKinney courthouse every time I say ‘Boo.’ I’m not going to be silenced.”

During a 2017 discussion about her tumultuous marriage to Steve, Mary echoed similar sentiments and made it clear she hadn’t broken any laws, but believed her estranged ex-husband had the law in his back pocket.

Hope For Justice:

Although Mary and Steve divorced many years ago, there’s still quite a few things she feels she deserves. Because she was with Steve for 16 years during his rise to fame, she adamantly insists there are benefits from the company they built together that she’s entitled to. From revenue that Steve acquired with the company they built together  to health benefits, Mary wants what’s hers.

Check out what she had to say…she definitely said a mouthful:

And here…

If Mary’s side of the story is the truth about what’s been going down between she and Steve, hopefully they’ll reach a better amicable agreement in the near future.

Steve Harvey

Steve Harvey did a very touching and candid interview with with People Magazine a few years ago. He detailed many things about his struggle during the days when he was homeless years, that a lot of his fans never knew. After reading what he said, it’s clear to see that Harvey has been on one incredible journey and we salute him for sharing some of his lowest moments with the public. His story is truly inspiring.

Here’s what Steve Harvey told People Magazine about the three years he was homeless:

STEVE HARVEY ON HOW HE ALMOST GAVE UP

“That was an ugly period, just very painful. Everybody has a moment when they turn back, when you say to yourself, ‘This is too much.’ I had it on several occasions.”

For three years straight, Steve had to live in his car, steal gasoline to get to his next comedy gig, and check out what he said was one of the MOST shameful experiences during this time.

HARVEY REVEALS ONE OF HIS LOWEST POINTS

Steve Harvey

Steve Harvey also spoke on how he would spend his nights sleeping in his car and during the day he had to wash up in public sinks. He recalled one particular occasion where he had to hide in a bathroom stall at a hotel for hours before he could sneak back out to wash the soap off of his body.

“I sat down and started crying, but a voice said, ‘If you keep going, I’m going to take you places you’ve never been.’ It was like God said, ‘Don’t quit, you’re almost there,’ Steve recalled.

His twin daughters had issues with his absence though.

STEVE’S TWIN DAUGHTERS FORGIVE HIM

Brandi and Karli Harvey, twin daughters of Steve Harvey and his ex-wife, Marcia Harvey

While Steve was trying his hardest to pursue his dream of becoming a successful comedian, he left his eldest daughters – v year old twins, Karli and Brandi Harvey – when they were kids, to live on the road and do gigs instead. Steve how his daughters have now forgiven him:

“Years later they [his daughters] said to me, ‘Dad, we didn’t understand why you left us, but we know now you had to go. You didn’t just belong to us. You belonged to the world.'” That was emotional for me.

Throwback photo of Steve Harvey with his and his ex-wife’s twin daughters

We’re happy for Steve and his daughters, there’s nothing like a father-daughter bond.

HOW HIS CAREER DREAM KILLED HIS FIRST MARRIAGE

Steve is happily married to his current wife, Marjorie, now. But Steve has been married twice before. He explained in his People interview that what killed his marriage back then was when he quit his job as a sales insurance salesmen in his late twenties to pursue his dream of becoming a comedian. The demands of being a struggling comedian who had to travel all the time just to get a gig that pays him very little money, and the realities of still having a family to provide for, ultimately led to Steve living in his car. He would send the most of little money he did make home to his wife and kids…

WHY HE NEVER THOUGHT HE’D NOW BE WORTH $100 MILLION

“It kills me when I hear very successful people say, ‘I always knew I would get here.’ I didn’t. I always hoped I would get somewhere, but this is above and beyond. My imagination didn’t even go this big,” Harvey told People.

Now that Steve Harvey has seen major success as a now-former TV talk show host; a radio host; as “Family Feud’s” game show host; and as an author of his “Think Like A Man, Act Like Lady” book, he still feels the need to grind even harder. He said he never wants to be homeless again.

Eight Kent State University students and their parents are beyond grateful for what Steve Harvey has just done for them. Though Steve’s TV hosting career has been sliced in half- after his daytime talk show The Steve Harvey Show, was kicked to the curb- The Family Feud host is not letting that block the blessings of others. Matter of fact, Steve is blessing folks in his own way.

The comedian’s alma mater, Kent State University, has now confirmed that Harvey will be paying the full tuition of 8 freshmen for it’s upcoming Fall season:

Via NY Daily News- Harvey, 62, is paying for eight students to attend Kent State University, his alma mater. The scholarships, averaging about $23,000 each, will cover all costs for the incoming freshmen, the university said in a statement.

The students, seven from Ohio and one from Maryland, will need to keep up a grade point average of 2.5 each semester, according to the Kent, Ohio, school.

Steve Harvey was compelled to do such a generous gesture for the 8 college students after Kent State loss one of their own in 2017:

Harvey’s gesture was made in honor of Kent State student Devin Moore, who died in 2017 while playing basketball at the school.

Multiple Personalities

There are many different sides to Steve Harvey and each side is a representation of the man he is. He can either be inspirational, funny or just downright mean. For example, one of his most controversial moments came from a comment he made to a caller during The Steve Harvey Morning Show. After the Cleveland Cavaliers were eliminated from the 2017 NBA finals someone from Flint, Michigan called in to poke fun at their loss. Harvey, a Cavs fan and former resident of Cleveland, was not pleased by his comments and began joking about Flint’s ongoing water crisis. After claiming the caller couldn’t take clean showers his co-hosts tried to derail Harvey before he made things worse. Unfortunately, Harvey decided to make things worse anyway. MLive reports;

“I wasn’t talking about the city of Flint,” Harvey told his co-hosts, “I was talking about him.”

Harvey continued on to say, “He gone call in and say Cleveland don’t deserve jack and he over there bathing in all that silver water.”

The caller was still on the line at this point and told Harvey he was “Dee from Flinttown.”

Before taking the next caller, Harvey told the caller there was “one more thing.”

“Go ahead,” the caller said.

“Enjoy your nice brown glass of water,” Harvey said.

He eventually apologized, yet the joke cast Harvey in a brand new light for many fans. And apparently this side of Harvey may be the one that’s the closest to who he truly is.
